This study evaluates the economic values for the several first precipitation events during Changma period. The selected three years are 2015, 2019, and 2020, where average precipitation amounts across the 58 Korean stations are 12.8, 20.1 and 13.3 mm, respectively. The four categories are used to assess the values including air quality improvement, water resource acquisition/accumulation, drought mitigation, and forest fire prevention/recovery. Economic values for these three years are estimated 50~150 billion won. Among the four factors considered, the effect of air quality improvement is most highly valued, amounting to 70 to 90% of the total economic values. Wet decomposition of air pollution (PM10, NO2, CO, and SO2) is the primary reason. The next valuable element is water resource acquisition, which is estimated 9~15 billion won. Effects of drought mitigation and fire prevention are deemed relatively small. This study is the first to estimate the value of the precipitation events during Changma onset. An analysis for more Changma years will be performed to achieve a more reliable estimate.

This study tried to develop Siraegi by boiling it down in soy seasoning sauce with excellent sensory attributes and evaluate the quality characteristics in order to enhance the value of traditional agricultural products, dried radish leaves. Sugar content of the seasoning sauce were finally established at 30% (w/v) compared with the starch syrup, which was added to the sauce through sensory evaluation among four groups, 0%, 30%, 60% and 100%. The texture (breaking strength) of Siraegi which was boiled for 30 minutes in water with baking powder was reduced by showing softening effect ranging from 7.6% to 42.1% as the amount of added baking powder was increased. The color of braised Siraegi produced with prepared a seasoning sauce and different content of baking powder, the brightness significantly decreased with an increase of baking powder. The reduction effects of breaking strength ranged from 25.6% to 43.9%, resulting a significant difference. The pH of braised Siraegi with a seasoning sauce significantly increased from 5.71 to 6.04 as the amount of added baking powder was increased, while its acidity was decreased. Sensory evaluation showed significant values for hardness and toughness as the values dropped when compared with the control (p<0.001), and overall acceptability of the group with adding 0.2% baking powder was best (p<0.001). In conclusion, baking powder could be considered as softening agent shorting the cooking time and improvement of the acceptability. Furthermore, it was expected that the newly developed soy sauce barised Siraegi using the dried radish leaves would be successfully utilized by side dishes in the food preparation industry.

This study researches attributes , behaviors , satisfaction factors and degrees of curiosity of visitors to recreational forests in the suburbs of a large city. It aims to present suggestions for urban forest development and management policy by offering basic data which help to plan, design and manage recreational forests to increase the quality of these environments. The results are as follows First, in attribute, the visiting rate of males is higher than that of females, and the main users are in their thirties and forties. Sixty percent of visitors graduated from university and their rate of employment is evenly distributed. 95 percent of visitors are residents of the metropolitan area. In terms of behavior, major visitors are family units visiting during summer seasons and for overnight stays. 75% are re-visitors. 85% of visitors came to escape the city with families and friends, keep in good health and experience nature. Second, to extract the factors affecting visitor satisfaction in recreational forests, the natural environment, facilities, and management/use systems were identified as independent variables, while subordinate satisfactions were dependent variables. so regression analysis was used. Thus, the variables affecting the natural environment are quality of water, stream use, biodiversity, fresh air and landscape factors. The variables affecting facilities are puking, convenience, play facilities, sanitary arrangement and camping. Most important among the variables affecting management/use systems are educational facilities and access condition. On the basis of generalizing the study in the existing individual site, we must verify the visiting characteristics in recreational forests in the suburbs of a large city. Since development of recreational forests is understood as a sequence considering a site and a given condition, and since management and improvement must unfold according to these characteristics, a strategy is needed to reveal visitors' opinions about the site. Depending on the facilities and service, satisfaction of recreational forests is generally influenced by social and economic qualities. Also, this study can look into the effect according to use pattern motive and season. As suburban recreational forests have many overnight-users and younger men, programs suitable for these groups are needed. On the basis of variables affecting satisfaction according to natural environment, facilities, and use system, policies which can manage the natural environment and introduce educational programs are needed.

The experiment was carried out to study the effect of Korean wild ginseng adventitious root supplementation on the laying performance, egg quality, cytokine expression, ginsenoside concentration, and microflora quantity of Institut de selection Animale (ISA) brown laying hens at 24 weeks old. A total of 90 laying hens were subjected to a completely randomized design at three treatments, five repetitions and six laying hens per replicate. The experiments were divided by diets into the basic feed (CON), basic feed + 0.1% wild ginseng (WG1), and basic feed + 0.5% wild ginseng (WG2). The feeding trial was carried out over a duration of 12 weeks after an initial acclimation period of 2 weeks. Feeds and water were administered ad libitum in mash form, and light was available for 16 hours per day. At the end of study, henday egg production (HDEP), average egg weight (AEW), and egg mass (EM) were increased (p <0.05) in WG2 at week 12. Feed conversion ratio (FCR) was decreased (p < 0.05) in WG2 at week 12. The ginsenoside content in egg yolk was increased (p <0.05) in laying hens in the WG2 treatment at week 12. Relative expression of tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α) was reduced (p < 0.05) in the WG supplemented diets at week 12. The fecal microflora quantity of Lactobacillus was increased (p < 0.05) in WG2 at week 8 to week 12, and Escherichia coli (E. coli) was significantly decreased (p < 0.05) in the WG2 at week 12. We concluded that the result observed in the HDEP, AEW, EM and FCR was due to an increase in ginsenoside content, leading to an improvement in the TNF-α, and fecal microflora quantity such as Lactobacillus and E. coli in the WG2 supplemented diets. We therefore recommend the use of WG at application level 0.5% per basal diet for optimum laying performance in layer hens.

Objective: The objective of the present study was to investigate the comparative effects of dietary functional nutrients including glutamine (Gln), chromium picolinate (Cr picolinate), vitamin C (Vit C), betaine (Bet), and taurine (Tau) on growth performance, meat quality, immune responses, and stress biomarkers in broiler chickens raised under heat stress conditions. Methods: A total of 420 21-d-old Ross 308 male broiler chickens (initial body weight = 866±61.9 g) were randomly allotted to 1 of 7 treatment groups with 6 replicates. One group was kept under thermoneutral conditions and was fed a basal diet (PC, positive control). Other 6 groups were exposed to a cyclic heat stress condition. One of the 6 groups was fed the basal diet (NC, negative control), whereas 5 other groups were fed the basal diet supplemented with 0.5% Gln, 500 ppb Cr picolinate, 250 mg/kg Vit C, 0.2% Bet, or 1.0% Tau. The diets and water were provided ad libitum for 21 d. Results: Broiler chickens in NC group had decreased (p<0.05) growth performance and immune responses measured based on cutaneous basophil hypersensitivity (CBH), but increased (p<0.05) stress responses measured based on feather corticosterone concentrations and blood heterophil:lymphocyte than those in PC group. However, none of dietary functional nutrients had a positive effect on growth performance of broiler chickens. Dietary supplementation of 250 mg/kg Vit C improved (p<0.05) CBH responses of broiler chickens, but other functional nutrients had no such an improvement in CBH responses. All functional nutrients decreased (p<0.05) stress responses of broiler chickens. Conclusion: Functional nutrients including Gln, Cr picolinate, Vit C, Bet, and Tau at the supplemental levels used in this study decrease stress responses of broiler chickens to a relatively similar extent. However, this reduction in stress responses could not fully ameliorate decreased productive performance of broiler chickens raised under the current heat stress conditions.

This study investigated defect status by work type, based on the report data of defect inspection results, acquired by consumers' request to safety inspection agencies, before the expiration of legal defect repair warranty period. In fact, the data was not acquired by centering on suppliers, namely, construction companies in relation with the defects becoming causes to increase construction cost of apartments. This study aims to provide objective and basic data for quality improvement at construction stage and for solution to defect disputes. The study results are presented below: (1) The number of defect cases occurring from architectural work among total work types were 1,986, defect occurrence rate was 62.5%, and defect repair cost was KRW $25,851/m^2$, which stood at 78.2% of the total work types. This means the defect occurrence rate and defect repair cost in architectural work are bigger than those of other work types. (2) Major defects in architectural work were revealed in the following order: cracks from frame work, inferior interior finishing work, inferior finishing work of plaster/masonry works, water leak/damage from waterproof work and withering/omission from landscape work. The total repair cost of the major selected defects was KRW $12,220/m^2$, and was analyzed to take up 37% of the total defect repair cost.
Soil aggregate is a vigorous procedure including soil physical, chemical, and biological processes. Pore space created by binding these particles together improves retention and exchange of air and water. Various researches have reported that the benefits of organic polymers that may increase aggregate stability. The purpose of the study was to determine if a liquid organic polymer mixture has any influence on perennial ryegrass quality or soil aggregation. $Turf2Max^{(R)}$ was applied to two soils as a source of liquid organic polymer. Fine-loamy soil from local Iowa topsoil with 4.0% organic matter was screened and dried. Commercial baseball infield clay, $QuickDry^{(R)}$, was used as the second soil There were three rates of liquid organic polymer (0, 2, and 4%). there was no visual improvement in turf grass color, quality, or growth by using organic polymer. It is possible that aggregate stability increases with use of organic polymer. The aggregate stability study needs to be repeated in the greenhouse and then substantiated under field conditions for these preliminary observations.
Quality characteristics of rice which was washed with solution of waxy rice flour to improve the quality of long term stored rice, were investigated. 2000 (Hap-Sal) and 1996 crop year rices (Jung Bu Mi) which were pre-washed with water (PWR) and solution of waxy rice flour (PWRW) were compared. Moisture contents of rices showed no difference among rices, and protein contents of PWRW were increased with washing of waxy rice flour solution although PWRW and PWR were processed from the same batch. Micro-structure of rices did not show particular difference enough to explain quality characteristics of rices. Amylogarm of PWR showed higher viscosity than Hap-Sal, which was characteristic properties of long term stored rice. However, viscosity of PWRW was decreased compared to PWR. The reason of decrease must be the effect of waxy rice starch which was imbedded with washing the rice. Color of PWR was higher in lightness (L), whiteness (W) and yellow (b) compared to Hap-Sal and PWRW. However cooked PWR showed decrease of whiteness and increase of yellow. Sensory evaluation of PWRW showed significant improvement of glossiness, stickiness, taste, and overall preference and decrease of yellow and hardness compared to PWR. Above results suggest that the development of PWRW will improve the quality of pre- washed rice.
Objective: This study investigated carcass characteristics and meat quality of purebred Pakchong 5, crossbred pigs sired by Pakchong 5, and crossbred pigs sired by Duroc. Methods: Forty-eight pigs (average body weight of 22.25 kg) were composed of three groups as purebred Pakchong 5 (PP), Large $White{\times}Landrace$ pigs sired by Pakchong 5 (LWLRP), and Large $White{\times}Landrace$ pigs sired by Duroc (LWLRD). Each group consisted of eight gilts and eight barrows. At 109-day-raising period, pigs were slaughtered, and carcass characteristics were evaluated. Longissimus thoracis (LT) muscles from left side of carcasses were evaluated for meat quality and chemical composition. Data were analyzed using general linear model procedure, where group, sex, and their interaction were included in the model. Results: The PP had greater carcass, total lean, and ham percentages than crossbred pigs (p<0.05). LWLRP had thicker backfat and more carcass fat percentage than LWLRD (p<0.05). There were no differences (p>0.05) on cutting percentages from tender loin, loin, boston butt, and picnic shoulder among groups. The PP and LWLRP had larger loin eye area (LEA) than LWLRD (p<0.05). Gilts had more loin percentage and lower $L^*$ value than barrows (p<0.05). No meat color parameters ($L^*$, $a^*$, and $b^*$) were affected by groups (p>0.05). PP and LWLRP had larger muscle fiber diameters than LWLRD (p<0.05). However, water holding capacity, Warner-Bratzler shear force values, and chemical composition of LT were not affected by group or sex (p>0.05). Conclusion: Pakchong 5 purebred has good carcass and lean percentages. Compared to Duroc crossbred pigs, Pakchong 5 crossbreds have similar carcass and lean percentages, larger LEA, and slightly more carcass fat, with comparable meat quality and chemical composition. Pakchong 5 boars are more affordable for very small- to medium-scale pig producers.
