The concept of cost of quality has become important economic measures of quality issues for several decades. Most of the research to date has focused on the problem and solution under static business conditions. However, some researchers have found that prevention cost of COQ is one of the expenses of investment and the payback will be shown by the improvement of product quality. These approaches have considered cost of quality issues based on a time factor. It means that there is a trade­off between prevention/appraisal costs and failure costs. Based on a capital budgeting approach, this research reviews the economics of quality improvement activities and proposes the decision criteria to justify quality improvement activities.

The process of producing software differs in many aspects from that of traditional manufacturing. Software is not manufactured in the classical sense. Development of software more closely resembles the development effort that goes into design new product [1-3]. In this article, we first describe the foundations of process improvement, which all processes can share. The process improvement differences between software and manufacturing process are then discussed, and a defect driven process inspection and improvement is introduced. Based on the discussion, two experiments were designed and the results of the results were collected. Through the comparison, we found that some efficient quality improvement approaches can be easily adapted in the software improvement and that the inspection efficiency is also significant.

This study focuses on citizen-driven regional agenda and improvement projects, with a specific emphasis on the Yokohama Shimin Machi-bushin Project. The research aims to categorize the scope of citizens' thoughts and the objects for improvement, shedding light on the Analysis Methodologies of citizen-driven proposals for living environment improvement. It also highlights the diverse factors influencing citizens' perceptions of regional issues and the different approaches to addressing them. The paper discusses potential challenges and obstacles in implementing citizen-driven initiatives for community improvement and suggests ways to address them effectively. Overall, the study underscores the significance of citizen participation in community development and the need to understand their perspectives and thought processes in proposing and implementing community improvement initiatives.

현시대 및 미래의 제조산업은 대부분 소프트웨어 융합 제품으로 이미 바뀌었거나 계속해서 바뀌고 있어, 소프트웨어가 부품의 의미로 사용되었던 '임베디드 소프트웨어 제품'이라는 용어도 이미 소프트웨어와 하드웨어가 동등한 역할을 하는 '소프트웨어 융합 제품'으로 불리고 있다. 이것은 단지 호칭의 유행이 아니라 제품의 기능적 진화의 대부분이 소프트웨어를 통해 중점적으로 진행되고 있음을 의미하며, 또한 소프트웨어의 품질이 융합 제품의 품질을 좌우하게 되었음을 의미한다. 융합 제품은 특성상 양산과 판매의 성격을 지닌다. 이는 양산된 제품의 소프트웨어 결함은 양산된 제품 수에 비례하여 엄청난 결함 비용을 발생한다는 것이다. 따라서 융합 산업에서 소프트웨어 품질은 기능의 경쟁력이기 이전에 사업의 안정성을 의미한다. 소프트웨어 품질 개선에 대해서는 그 동안 많은 연구와 노력이 있어왔으나, 국내나 아시아의 개발환경 하에서 실질적인 성공사례를 찾아보기는 쉽지가 않다. 아이폰의 충격과 토요타의 리콜 사건 등 많은 융합 산업의 물결 속에서 보다 현실적이고 냉정한 소프트웨어품질 관리 방안이 필요한 때이다. 본 논문에서는 융합 소프트웨어 산업의 태생적 특성을 살펴보고, 동시에 전통적인 소프트웨어 품질 개선 방법들의 현재 소프트웨어 융합산업에서의 적용 한계에 대해 논하여 본다. 그리고 융합 소프트웨어 산업의 특성을 고려한 보다 현실적인 소프트웨어 품질 개선 방안에 대해 소개하고자 한다. 본 논문에서 기술되는 전략은 프로세스 수준보다 개선 활동의 구현상에서의 구체적 전략에 해당한다. 따라서 CMMI혹은 TQM, 6시스마와 같은 품질 혁신활동과 어우러져 사용될 수 있다.

It is essential to perform the software process improvement activities to reinforce the software quality. Some companies are trying to improve the software process capability by establishing and implementing the software process improvement strategies voluntarily. But, the whole software industry is not active yet in terms of software process improvement. In this paper, we surveyed 'Software Process Capability Level' of software companies, analyzed the strength and weakness of the companies and provided with systematic approaches to improve Software Process capability. So, this paper contributes that software companies vigorously focus on the Software Process Improvement and eventually have the global competitiveness in terms of software quality.

Medicinal and aromatic plants (MAPs) are important sources for plant secondary metabolites, which are important for human healthcare. Improvement of the yield and quality of these natural plant products through conventional breeding is still a challenge. However, recent advances in plant genomics research has generated knowledge leading to a better understanding of the complex genetics and biochemistry involved in biosynthesis of these plant secondary metabolites. This genomics research also concerned identification and isolation of genes involved in different steps of a number of metabolic pathways. Progress has also been made in the development of functional genomics resources (EST databases and micro-arrays) in several medicinal plant species, which offer new opportunities for improvement of genotypes using perfect markers or genetic transformation. This review article presents an overview of the recent developments and future possibilities in genetics and genomics of MAP species including use of transgenic approach for their improvement.

There have been various approaches for efficiency improvement of a Darrieus tidal stream turbine after it was introduced as an alternative of horizontal axis turbines. Among the approaches, the researches on the interaction effect of dual configuration were conducted. In this study, a dual Darrieus turbine with a coupling mechanism was proposed for investigating the interaction effect. Also, the effect of bi-directional tidal stream was analyzed with prototype fabrication, apparatus set-up and experiment conduction in indoor and offshore facilities. As the results of the experiments, the dual turbine in case of counter-rotation and inflow between the turbines improved efficiencies by 9.5% and 11.31%, respectively, as compared to the single turbine. Also, the dual turbine in case of the inflow improved efficiencies by 9.4% and 16.62%, respectively, as compared to that in case of outflow between the turbines which represented the case of 180 degrees change of flow direction after slack water. Therefore, the proposed dual turbine showed the advantage in terms of the efficiency as compared to the single turbine and the effect level of the slack water on the performance of the dual turbine was investigated.

The article is devoted to the formation of approaches to improving the system of administration of customs payments in modern conditions. It is established that important components of the administration of customs payments are customs expertise, customs value assessment, and control over the declaration of goods to ensure the completeness and timeliness of customs duties payments to the budget. It is found that the practice of customs administration shifts the emphasis of foreign trade regulation to the use of the principles of work implying the use of the latest technologies for the preliminary electronic exchange of information, remote customs clearance of goods without the physical presence of an official, and consistent application of risk management. It is established that an important place in the structure of the state authorities regulating the foreign economic activity is given to the customs service. Furthermore, the existing problems in the implementation of international trade operations necessitate the improvement of approaches to the customs regulation of export-import activities of enterprises.

Model-driven engineering (MDE) and aspect-oriented software development (AOSD) contribute to the common goal of development of high-quality code in reduced time. To complement each approach with the benefits of the other, various methods of integration of the two approaches were proposed in the past. Aspect-oriented code generation, which targets obtaining aspect-oriented code directly from aspect models, offers some unique advantages over the other integration approaches. However, the existing aspect-oriented code generation approaches do not comprehensively address all aspects of a model-driven code generation system, such as a textual representation of graphical models, conceptual mapping, and incorporation of behavioral diagrams. These problems limit the worth of generated code, especially in practical use. Here, we propose AJFCode, an approach for aspect-oriented model-driven code generation, which comprehensively addresses the various aspects including the graphical models and their text-based representation, mapping between visual model elements and code, and the behavioral code generation. Experiments are conducted to compare the maintainability and reusability characteristics of the aspect-oriented code generated using the AJFCode with the most comprehensive object-oriented code generation approach. AJFCode performs well in terms of all metrics related to maintainability and reusability of code. However, the most significant improvement is noticed in the separation of concerns, coupling, and cohesion. For instance, AJFCode yields significant improvement in concern diffusion over operations (19 vs 51), coupling between components (0 vs 6), and lack of cohesion in operations (5 vs 9) for one of the experimented concerns.

Objective : Symptomatic thoracic disc herniation often requires prompt surgical treatment to prevent neurological deterioration and permanent deficits. Anterior approaches offer direct visualization and access to the herniated disc and anterior dura but require access surgeons and are often associated with considerable postoperative pain and pulmonary complications. A disadvantage with using posterior approaches in the setting of central calcified thoracic disc herniation however, has been the limited visualization of anterior dura and difficulty to accurately assess the extent of decompression. Methods : We report our experience with intraoperative ultrasound (US) guidance during a modified posterior transpedicular approach for removal of a central calcified thoracic disc herniation with a review of pertinent literature. Results : The herniated thoracic disc was successfully removed with posterior approach with the aid of intraoperative US. The patient had significant neurological improvement at three months follow-up. Conclusion : Intraoperative ultrasound is a simple yet valuable tool for real-time imaging during transpedicular thoracic discectomy. Visualization provided by intraoperative US increases the safety profile of posterior approaches and may make thoracotomy unnecessary in a selected group of patients, especially when a patient has existing pulmonary disease or is otherwise not medically fit for the transthoracic approach.
