  • This paer presents a feedback-controlled, MEMS-fabricated microaccelerometer($\mu$XL). The $\mu$XL has received much commercial attraction, but its performance is generally limited. To improve the open-loop performance, a feedback controller is designed and experimentally evaluated. The feedback controller is applied to the x/y-axis $\mu$XL fabricated by sacrificial bulk micromachining(SBM) process. Even though the resolution of the closed-loop system is slightly worse than open-loop system, the bandwidth, linearity, and bias stability are stability are significantly improved. The noise equivalent resolution of open-loop system is 0.615 mg and that of closed-loop system is 0.864 mg. The bandwidths of open-loop and closed-loop system are over 100Hz. The input range, non-linearity and bias stability are improved from $\pm10\;g\;to\;\pm18g$, from 11.1%FSO to 0.86%FSO, and from 0.221 mg to 0.128 mg by feedback control, respectively.

  • In this study, a new understanding is presented on the microcracking behavior of high strength concrete (HSC) with steel fiber addition having prior compressive loading history. Microcracking behavior at critical stress (σcr) region, using seven fiber addition volume of 0.5, 0.75, 1.0, 1.25, 1.5, 1.75, and 2.0% was evaluated, at two aspect ratios (60 and 75). The specimens were loaded up to a specified compressive stress levels (0.70fc-0.96fc), and subsequently subjected to split tensile tests. This was followed by microscopic analyses afterwards. Four compressive stress levels as percentage of fc were selected according to the linearity end point based on stress-time (σ-t) diagram under uniaxial compression. It was seen that pre-compression has an effect on the linearity end point as well as fiber addition where it lies within 85-91% of fc. Tensile strength gain was observed in some cases with respect to the 'maiden' tensile strength as oppose to tensile strength loss due to the fiber addition with teething effect. Aggregate cracking was the dominant failure mode instead of bond cracks due to improved matrix quality. The presence of the steel fiber improved the extensive failure pattern of cracks where it changes from 'macrocracks' to a branched network of microcracks especially at higher fiber dosages. The applied pre-compression resulted in hardening effect, but the cracking process is similar to that in concrete without fiber addition.

  • In this paper, Compact Microstrip Resonant Cell(CMRC)s have been employed to suppress IMD(Intermodulation Distortion) of the 3-Way Doherty amplifier. This method can not only improve the linearity and the efficiency but also be simpler, smaller and more inexpensive than existing linearity methods; (for example harmonic feedback, back off, feed-forward, predistortion and so on) Also, using only one divider reduces the size of the proposed 3-Way Doherty amplifier. As a result, the IMD3 and the PAE have been improved by 4.5 dB and by $9.2\%$, respectively, using the proposed Doherty amplifier with CMRC.

  • In this paper we confirm the disappearance of dynamic lock-in simply by increasing the dither noise magnitude of the ring laser gyroscope by numerical and experimental method. After that, we numerically study the relation between the dither noise forms and scale factor non-linearities by comparing those of the two case outputs which are individually generated by operating with the two types of dither noise forms. The first one is the simple form composed of consecutive alternations of the random increasing and decreasing parts but maximum and minimum dither envelopes are scarcely changeable. And the second one is similar to the first one but maximum and minimum dither envelopes are randomly changable. As a result, we find that the scale factor non-linearity could be improved by the second one. And we confirm those results by experimental measurements.

  • This paper presents the Doherty power amplifier with a digitally controlled analog predistorter circuit of Scintera Corp. to produce high power efficiency and high linearity performance. The analog predistorter improves the linearity performance because of controlling amplitude and phase values of input signal in order to improve intermodulation performance of power amplifier. Also, the power amplifier is designed by the Doherty technology to obtain the high efficiency performance. To validate the Scintera's analog predistorter, we are implemented the power amplifier with Doherty method at center frequency 2150 MHz. Compared with the balanced amplifier, the power amplifier is improved above 11% enhanced efficiency and more than 15 dB ACPR improvement.

  • In this work, we demonstrated a low noise and high linearity low noise amplifier (LNA) monolithic microwave integrated circuit (MMIC) with novel active bias circuit for LTE applications. The device technology used in this work relies on a process involving a $0.25-{\mu}m$ GaAs pseudomorphic high electron mobility transistor (PHEMT). The LNA MMIC with a novel active bias circuit has a small signal gain of $19.7{\pm}1.5dB$ and output third order intercept point (OIP3) of 38-39 dBm in the frequency range 1.75-2.65 GHz. The noise figure (NF) is less than 0.58 dB over the full bandwidth. Compared with the characteristics of the LNA MMIC without using the novel active bias circuit, the OIP3 is improved about 2-3 dBm. The small signal gain and NF showed no significant change after using the active bias circuit. The novel active bias circuit indeed improves the linearity performance of the LNA MMIC without degradation.

  • At Power amplifier, distortion of output is appeared because of non-linearlity, so we must study method of compensation for non-linearity. In this paper, it was studied about the characteristic of predistorter using serial schottky diode for an amplifier. As a result, we confirmed that power amplifier was able to linearize when we put predistorter using non-linearity of schottky diode before power amplifier. When input carrier level was low, input carrier was delivered directly into power amplifier but input carrier level was high, input carrier was delivered into power amplifier through predistorter with suppressed level. As a result power amplifier always was at saturation region. Through simulation using serenade 8.0, we have concluded that efficiency was improved about 3%, and predistorter got best linearity at 1.8㎓ between 800㎒∼2.2㎓.

  • The commonly used TMD design method in the project assumes the TMD has pure linearity. However, in real engineering TMD will exhibit nonlinear behaviors. Without considering the nonlinearity of TMD, the control effect of the TMD that is designed by the linear design method, may be worse and even enlarge the structural response. In this paper, based on the previous study results of nonlinear TMD, the improved design method for engineering application is proposed. The linear design method and the improved design method are compared. Taking the best parameter obtained by the improved design method is less than or equal to 90% of that obtained by the original design method as the dividing line. The critical nonlinear coefficient, reaching which value the improved design method needs to be used, is given. Finally, numerical simulations on two engineering examples are conducted to proof the results.

  • This paper reports an application of Doherty amplifier for efficiency improvement of feedforward power amplifier(FPA). For performance analysis, we measured 15 W average output power using WCDMA 4FA input signal with a center frequency 2.14 GHz. The applied Doherty amplifier presents the characteristics of high efficiency and low linearity in comparison to the class AB amplifier, and it was used as main amplifier of FPA fir efficiency improvement. To analyze the change of characteristic, tow Doherty amplifiers whose linearity and efficiency are different were applied. The applied FPAs are improved about $2\%$ or more performance in efficiency, but decreased in linearity on 15 W average output power. We additionally modified the coupling factor(CF) of the error loop and the error amplifier capacity for linearity improvement. Aa a result, the efficiency improvement and high linearity resulted from the change of CF and error amplifier capacity. However, we think if the linearity of Doherty amplifier were more than 35 dBc, the FPA would improve the performance about $2\%$ or more efficiency and maintain enough linearity.

  • The nonlinearity parameter is frequently measured as a sensitive indicator in damaged material characterization or tissue harmonic imaging. Several previous studies have employed the plane wave solution, and ignored the effects of beam diffraction when measuring the non-linearity parameter ${\beta}$. This paper presents a multi-Gaussian beam approach to explicitly derive diffraction corrections for fundamental and second harmonics under quasilinear and paraxial approximation. Their effects on the nonlinearity parameter estimation demonstrate complicated dependence of ${\beta}$ on the transmitter-receiver geometries, frequency, and propagation distance. The diffraction effects on the non-linearity parameter estimation are important even in the nearfield region. Experiments are performed to show that improved ${\beta}$ values can be obtained by considering the diffraction effects.
