A Study on Low-Band-Shift with Integer Lifting for Effective Motion Estimation (효과적인 움직임 예측을 위한 정수형 리프팅 기반의 저대역 이동법에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, we propose motion estimation and compensation using Low-Band-Shift(LBS) with Integer Lifting Shift property. To overcome shift-variant property on wavelet coefficients, the LBS was previously proposed. This method which is applied to reference frame in video coding technique has superior performance in terms of rate-distortion characteristic. However, this method needs more memory and computational complexity. For the enhancement of those disadvantages, we propose motion estimation using Low-Band-Shift with Integer Lifting. The Integer Lifting implementation gives us good efficiency of calculation and storage.

  • In this paper, it is presented a new technique to the design and real-time implementation of fuzzy control system based-on digital signal processors in order to improve the precision and robustness for system of industrial robot. Fuzzy control has emerged as one of the most active and fruitful areas for research in the applications of fuzzy set theory, especially in the real of industrial processes. In this thesis, a self-organizing fuzzy controller for the industrial robot manipulator with a actuator located at the base is studied. A fuzzy logic composed of linguistic conditional statements is employed by defining the relations of input-output variable of the controller, In tile synthesis of a FLC, one of the most difficult problems is the determination of linguistic control rules from the human operators. To overcome this difficult, SOFC is proposed for a hierarchical control structure consisting of basic level and high level that modify control rules.

  • The various researches are investigated for transforming byte code into objective machine code which can be implemented in the specific processor using classical compiling methods to improve the execution speed of the JAVA language. The code generation techniques using pattern matching can generate more high-quality code than code expansion techniques. We provide, in this research, the standardized pattern describing methods and pattern matching techniques that can be used to generate the register-based inter-language which is for the effective native code generation from byte code. And we designed and realized the inter-code transformer with which we can generate the high-quality register-based inter-code using standardized pattern described formerly.

Recurrent Ant Colony Optimization for Optimal Path Convergence in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks

  • One of the challenging tasks in Mobile Ad hoc Network is to discover precise optimal routing solution due to the infrastructure-less dynamic behavior of wireless mobile nodes. Ant Colony Optimization, a swarm Intelligence technique, inspired by the foraging behaviour of ants in colonies was used in the past research works to compute the optimal path. In this paper, we propose a Recurrent Ant Colony Optimization (RECACO) that executes the actual Ant Colony Optimization iteratively based on recurrent value in order to obtain an optimal path convergence. Each iteration involves three steps: Pheromone tracking, Pheromone renewal and Node selection based on the residual energy in the mobile nodes. The novelty of our approach is the inclusion of new pheromone updating strategy in both online step-by-step pheromone renewal mode and online delayed pheromone renewal mode with the use of newly proposed metric named ELD (Energy Load Delay) based on energy, Load balancing and end-to-end delay metrics to measure the performance. RECACO is implemented using network simulator NS2.34. The implementation results show that the proposed algorithm outperforms the existing algorithms like AODV, ACO, LBE-ARAMA in terms of Energy, Delay, Packet Delivery Ratio and Network life time.

Efficient parallelization implementation technique of PU-level ME for fast HEVC encoding (고속 HEVC 부호화를 위한 효율적인 PU 레벨 움직임예측 병렬화 구현 기법)

  • 본 논문에서는 차세대 비디오 표준인 High Efficiency Video Coding(HEVC)의 영상 부호화 과정의 시간복잡도 감소를 위한 효율적인 Prediction Unit(PU)레벨 움직임예측(Motion Estimation, ME) 병렬화의 구현 기법을 제시하고자 한다. 움직임예측 과정은 부호화기에서 80%의 복잡도를 차지하는 과정으로 고속 부호화의 걸림돌이 되고 있다. 이를 해결하기 위한 방법으로 제안된 것이 움직임예측 알고리즘의 병렬화이다. 알고리즘 수준에서 ME 의 일부인 Merge Estimation 의 병렬화를 위해서 Merge Estimation Region (MER)기반의 ME 방법이 제안되었다. 하지만 HEVC Test Model reference software(HM)에 반영된 MER 을 이용하여 실제로 병렬화된 ME 를 구현하는 과정에서는 알고리즘 측면에서 아직 고려되지 않은 문제들이 존재한다. 이에 본 논문에서는 MER 을 사용한 안정적인 병렬 ME 를 구현하기 위한 전략으로 각 PU 의 정보를 독립적으로 사용하기 위한 부분 순차화 방법과 메모리 접근제한을 이용한 병렬화 방법을 제시한다. 실험을 통해 본 연구의 우수성이 확인되었는데, 제안된 방법에 기반을 둔 구현에서 순차적인 ME 를 이용한 부호화기 대비 평균 25.64%의 전체 부호화 과정 시간의 감소가 나타났다.

Confocal Scanning Microscopy : a High-Resolution Nondestructive Surface Profiler

  • Confocal scanning microscopy is a measurement technique used to observe micrometer and sub-micrometer features due to its high resolution, nondestructive properties, and 3D surface profiling capabilities. The design, implementation, and performance test of a confocal scanning microscopy system are presented in this paper. A short-wavelength laser (405 nm) and an objective lens with a high numerical aperture (0.95) were used to achieve the desired high resolution, while the x- and y-axis scans were implemented using an acousto-optic deflector and galvanomirror, respectively. An objective lens with a piezo-actuator was used to scan the z-axis. A spatial resolution of less than 138 nm was achieved, along with successful 3D surface reconstructions.

  • Purpose: For more than 30 years, robust parameter design (RPD), which attempts to minimize the process bias (i.e., deviation between the mean and the target) and its variability simultaneously, has received consistent attention from researchers in academia and industry. Based on Taguchi's philosophy, a number of RPD methodologies have been developed to improve the quality of products and processes. The primary purpose of this paper is to review and discuss existing RPD methodologies in terms of the three sequential RPD procedures of experimental design, parameter estimation, and optimization. Methods: This literature study composes three review aspects including experimental design, estimation modeling, and optimization methods. Results: To analyze the benefits and weaknesses of conventional RPD methods and investigate the requirements of future research, we first analyze a variety of experimental formats associated with input control and noise factors, output responses and replication, and estimation approaches. Secondly, existing estimation methods are categorized according to their implementation of least-squares, maximum likelihood estimation, generalized linear models, Bayesian techniques, or the response surface methodology. Thirdly, optimization models for single and multiple responses problems are analyzed within their historical and functional framework. Conclusion: This study identifies the current RPD foundations and unresolved problems, including ample discussion of further directions of study.

Development of an Evaluation System of a LOS-based Balanced Scorecard for Road Infrastructure Asset Management (도로자산관리를 위한 서비스수준 기반 균형성과표 평가체계 개발)

  • PURPOSES : This paper aims at the implementation of a balanced scorecard that can be widely applied to modern business management for use in the public road management sector. METHODS : This study applied the newly developed LOS-based balanced scorecard system instead of a traditional Key Performance Index (KPI) for better decision making in asset management planning. As an evaluation technique, a" hierarchical alignment and cascading method" is also suggested. Finally, the suggested system has been empirically applied to a regional government. RESULTS : To provide stable and sustainable road services, the balanced scorecard informs the regional government of needed improvements in its asset management plans regarding budget optimization, structural management, the development of inner-business processes, and human resources. CONCLUSIONS : An LOS-based balanced scorecard for managing road services and organizations in a quantitative manner has been successfully developed and tested through a field study. The developed scorecard is a timely topic and a useful analytical tool for coping with the new phases of an aging infrastructure, tighter budgets, and demand for greater public accountability.

  • To date, the implementation and adoption of new manufacturing technologies has been retarded despite their technical advances and strategic virtues such as flexibility and synergy effect. This phenomenon is partly attributable to the lack of commensurate development and widespread dissemination of adequate selection and justification procedures. Many strategically vital automation projects have been rejected and/or seemingly promising proposals have turned out to be fiascos since the justification process has been solely based on the traditional capital budgeting or engineering economy methods. As the degree of system automation/integration increases, a variety of benefit/cost attributes, both quantitative and qualitative, should be taken into account and more comprehensive and analytic justification methods should be applied in the justification process. This paper points out the distinct characteristics of advanced technologies and presents an illustrative set of procedures that can be used in the justification process. It outlines the algorithmic structure of each procedure and also describes the advantages/disadvantages of each procedure and the conditions under which it is most appropriate to employ. The selection of appropriate justification technique is situation-specific. In general, it is recommended that more complex and sophisticated procedures be used as the degree of integration increases. Nonetheless, traditional procedures may be used as well to make in-depth analyses of the local impact.

  • Viscoelastic damping materials are widely used to reduce noise and vibration because of its low cost and easy implementation, for examples, on the body structure of passenger cars, air planes, electric appliances and ships. To design the damped structures, the material property such as elastic modulus and loss factor is essential information. The four-parameter fractional derivative model well describes the nonlinear dynamic characteristics of the viscoelastic damping materials with respect to both frequency and temperature with fewer parameters than conventional spring-dashpot models. However the identification procedure of the four-parameter is very time-consuming one. An efficient identification procedure of the four-parameters is proposed by using an FE model and a gradient-based numerical search algorithm. The identification procedure goes two sequential steps to make measured FRFs coincident with simulated FRFs: the first one is a peak alignment step and the second one is an amplitude adjustment. A numerical example shows that the proposed method is efficient and robust in identifying the viscoelastic material parameters of fractional derivative model.
