  • In this paper, we analyze the effect of imperfect power control on the capacity of the reverse channel in CDMA cellular system with antenna arrays in the base station. For imperfect power control, we assume that the received power at the base station from the users within each cell has log-normal distribution, and we also consider the effect of imperfect power control of co-channel interferences which arise from both its own cell and outer cells. From the result of numerical analysis, we show that the degree of power control gives a great influence on the capacity of CDMA celluar system with antenna arrays, and also that antenna arrays at the base station can improve greatly the system capacity even when the power control is imperfect.

  • We analyze the capacity of the imperfect power controlled DS/CDMA system with the Nakagami faded AMPS interferers by means of the analytical approach. Unlike the theoretical aassumption, the power control of the DS/CDMA system is not perfect. Therefore in this analysis we consider various parameters which cause the capacityreduction of the DS/CDMA system, the imperfect power control, the Nakagami fading index, he processing gain, and the number of AMPS interferers. The analytical results are compared with the Prasad's results which are considered only the imperfect power control of the DS/CDMA system. It is shown that the DS/CDMA capacity is decreased according to the increase of the deviation of the imperfect power control, to icrease the number pf the analog interfering users, and to decrease the processing gain.

  • In this paper, the capacity for the reverse link of the imperfect power controlled DS/CDMA hierarchical cellular system is analyzed considering imperfect sectorization in shadowing environment. Unlike the theoretical assumption, the power control of the DS/CDMA hierarchical cellular system is not perfect. Therefore, we consider various parameters such as the imperfect power control, the imperfect sectorization, the processing gain and the number of microcell interferers, which cause the capacity variation of the DS/CDMA hierarchical cellular system. It is shown that the capacity of DS/CDMA hierarchical cellular system is decreased according to the increase of the deviation of the imperfect power control, the overlapped angle, the power ratio between macrocell and microcell and to the decrease of processing gain, the number of microcell interfering users. Also, it is observed that the hierarchical cellular system can increase the user capacity from 1.54 to 3.89 times compared to the homogeneous macro-cellular system.

  • In this paper, effect of imperfect power control on performance of a pseudonoise (PN) code tracking loop is analyzed and simulated for a direct-sequence/code-division multiple access (DS/CDMA) system. The multipath fading channel is modeled as a two-ray Rayleigh fading model. Power control error is modeled as a log-normally distributed random variable. The tracking performance of DLL (delay-locked-loop) is evaluated in terms of tracking jitter and mean-time-to-lose-lock (MTLL). From the simulation results, it is shown that the PN tracking performance is very sensitive to the power control error.

  • This letter presents an analytical framework for a performance analysis of the imperfect direct-sequence code division multiple access (DS-CDMA) closed-loop power control (CLPC) loop with loop delay, channel estimation error, and power control command bit error as the parameters under a Rayleigh flat fading environment. The proposed model is verified through a comparison between analytical results and simulation ones.

  • In this paper, we analyze the effect of co-channel interferers coming from other systems with composite log-normal shadowing and Nakagami fading on the capacity of the imperfect power-controlled DS/CDMA cellular system. The analytical results are compared with the results of Prasad and Jansen in which they derive the result under the condition of imperfect power-control of DS/CDMA system and without considering interference. And the outage probability is calculated fro the effect of the log-normal/Nakagami faded inferers on DS/CDMA system using Schwartz and Yeh's method. With the deviation of outage probability, we analyzed the decreases in the capacity of DS/CDMA system with the variation of the paramenters of the imperfect power-control, the fadig index, the processing gain, the power ratio, the voice activity factor, and the number of interferers. Analysis reuslts have shown that the capacity of DS/CDMA system is very sensitive to the imperfect power-control and the number of interferers. It is shown that the DS/CDMA system capacity decreased according to increase of the deviation of the impertect power-control, the increase of the fading, and the increase of interferer number.

  • In this paper, the bit error performance for the reverse link of a synchronous direct sequence code division multiple access (DS-CDMA) system employing an imperfect power control scheme over a frequency selective Rayleigh fading channel is analyzed. The system capacity degradation due to power control error (PCE), which is approximated by a log-normally distributed random variable, is estimate as a function of a standard deviation of the PCE. In addition, the impact of the multipath intensity profile (MIP) shape and the number of resolvable paths on the performance of the synchronous transmission is investigated. To estimate the system capacity, the coded bit error performance is evaluated and compared with the conventional CDMA. It is found tat synchronous transmission has less sensitivity to imperfect power control and eases the power control requirements. In particular, as the decay constant $\delta$ of MIP increases, the synchronous transmission in the DS-CDMA reverse link results in a significant BER improvement over the asynchronous transmission even in the presence of imperfect power control. We further conclude that the capacity can be improved by employing the synchronous transmission.

  • In this paper, we studied the effects of the power control imperfection on the system performances of a microcellular DS/CDMA system. The maximum user capacity, defined as the maximum number of users can be serviced simultaneouly, meeting a given voice quality, is first considered. Then the performence degradation due to the control error is analyzed. The frequency selective Raician channel model is used to characterize a microcellular mobile communication environment. The DS/CDMA system under consideration uses BPSK modulation and convolutional coding/Viterbe decoding with soft decision for forward error correction. It is shown that the user capacity falls linearly down with the increase of the power control error(in terms of the standard deviation in dB) and the interference from users outside the third tier cells have a minor effect on the performance. And the performance of DS/CDMA with the imperfect power control model is made to be less than 50% of that with perfect power control moded.

  • In this paper, performance of a pseudonoise (PN) code tracking loop is analyzed and simulated for a direct-sequence/code-division multiple access ( DS/CDMA) system with imperfect power control in a multipath fading channel. A noncoherent first-order delay-locked loop (DLL) is considered as a PN code tracking loop. Power control error is modeled as a log-normally distributed random variable. From the simulation results, it is shown that for smaller discriminator offset, tracking jitter performance is improved while MTLL performance is degraded. It is shown that large power control error and heavy shadowing substantially degrade the PN tracking performance. The analysis in this paper can be applicable to design of PN code tracking loop for a DS/CDMA system.

  • Power control (PC) on the reverse link of CDMA cellular system is important to increase system capacity. PC eliminates fluctuations in the received signal level and hence reduces the required signal-to-interference ratio. However, both perfect PC and imperfect PC depend on number of interferences as number of users, which by using smart antenna system can decrease number of interferences in any directions except interferences from the main beam direction. In this paper , number of elements in smart antenna system, which directly relates to the main beam pattern, is studied to find the effects on the outage probability , bit energy-to-interference density ratio (Eb/Io) and the capacities of both perfect and imperfect PC.
