  • A new method of numerical simulating prediction and decontamination effect evaluation for abrasive jet decontamination to radioactively contaminated metal is proposed. Based on the Computational Fluid Dynamics and Discrete Element Model (CFD-DEM) coupled simulation model, the motion patterns and distribution of abrasives can be predicted, and the decontamination effect can be evaluated by image processing and recognition technology. The impact of three key parameters (impact distance, inlet pressure, abrasive mass flow rate) on the decontamination effect is revealed. Moreover, here are experiments of reliability verification to decontamination effect and numerical simulation methods that has been conducted. The results show that: 60Co and other homogeneous solid solution radioactive pollutants can be removed by abrasive jet, and the average removal rate of Co exceeds 80%. It is reliable for the proposed numerical simulation and evaluation method because of the well goodness of fit between predicted value and actual values: The predicted values and actual values of the abrasive distribution diameter are Ф57 and Ф55; the total coverage rate is 26.42% and 23.50%; the average impact velocity is 81.73 m/s and 78.00 m/s. Further analysis shows that the impact distance has a significant impact on the distribution of abrasive particles on the target surface, the coverage rate of the core area increases at first, and then decreases with the increase of the impact distance of the nozzle, which reach a maximum of 14.44% at 300 mm. It is recommended to set the impact distance around 300 mm, because at this time the core area coverage of the abrasive is the largest and the impact velocity is stable at the highest speed of 81.94 m/s. The impact of the nozzle inlet pressure on the decontamination effect mainly affects the impact kinetic energy of the abrasive and has little impact on the distribution. The greater the inlet pressure, the greater the impact kinetic energy, and the stronger the decontamination ability of the abrasive. But in return, the energy consumption is higher, too. For the decontamination of radioactively contaminated metals, it is recommended to set the inlet pressure of the nozzle at around 0.6 MPa. Because most of the Co elements can be removed under this pressure. Increasing the mass and flow of abrasives appropriately can enhance the decontamination effectiveness. The total mass of abrasives per unit decontamination area is suggested to be 50 g because the core area coverage rate of the abrasive is relatively large under this condition; and the nozzle wear extent is acceptable.

  • The solid particle erosion behaviour of unidirectional carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) composites was investigated. The erosive wear of these composites was evaluated at different impingement angles ($30^{\circ}$, $45^{\circ}$, $60^{\circ}$, $90^{\circ}$), different impact velocities (40, 55, 60, 70m/s) and at three different fiber orientations ($0^{\circ}$, $45^{\circ}$, $90^{\circ}$). The erodent was SiC sand with the size $50-100{\mu}m$ of irregula. shapes. The result showed ductile erosion behaviour with maximum erosion rate at $30^{\circ}$ impingement angle. The fiber orientations had a significant influence on erosion. The erosion rate was strongly dependent on impact velocity which followed power law $E{\propto}\;V^n$. Based on impact velocity (V), impact angle (${\alpha}$) and fiber orientation angle (${\beta}$), a method was proposed to predict the erosion rate of unidirectional fiber reinforced composites.

  • The demand for an ice class ship is rising expected to rise according to the increase of energy consumption and the opening of arctic sea routes. Ice class ship should be designed to cope with the severe environmental conditions of arctic sea such as a high mechanical impact and abrasion damage, caused by pack ice, ice bergs and low temperature. The ice class ship hulls are coated with an anti-abrasion and low friction coating such as a solvent free epoxy or high solid-volume epoxy. These coatings require two-component heating pump and a high grade surface preparation. In this study, the coating performances for the arctic vessels, such as puncture absorbed energy, abrasive wear loss, friction coefficients and impact absorbed energy were evaluated. Based on this study, a proper coating performance specification for the arctic vessels was proposed and coating selection guideline in terms of coating performance and workability was also established.

  • Time domain response analysis for vibro-impact nonlinear behavior of multi-span tube with loose supports was performed using commercial FEA code and user subroutine. Support geometry of multi-span tube with a finite gap is realistically modeled by analytical rigid surface. Model of hydrodynamic force is based on the Qusai-steady model which accounts for the inclined angle of relative flow velocity and time delay between flow force and resulting tube motion. During tube vibration from flow loading, impact and friction at the support location is simulated using commercial FEA code with master slave contact algorithm. Analysis results has reasonable agreement with those of references and test experience. Plan of further refinement of analysis model and future test verification is briefly introduced.

  • Influence of Si contents on the mechanical properties and microstructure of austempered ductile iron was investigated. Four different Si contents between 2.0 and 2.9% were used. Austenitizing was performed at $890^{\circ}C$ for 2 hrs and austempering temperatures were both 340 and $380^{\circ}C$ for 0.5, 1, and 2 hrs. Nodule content was more than $300/mm^2$ and nodularity was more than 90%. Microstructure was revealed using nital and retained austenite was measured by x-ray diffractometer. Tensile test, no-notch Charpy impact test and wear test were performed. Tensile strength was improved as Si content increased and both elongation and impact toughness had peak at 2.6%Si. The specimen austempered at $380^{\circ}C$ showed lower tensile strength than that of $340^{\circ}C$, but showed higher elongation. However, austempering temperature of $380^{\circ}C$ was desirable because that of $340^{\circ}C$ was close to lower bainite transformation. As austempering time increased, tensile strength and elongation were improved and optimum condition was obtained for 2 hrs heat treatment.

  • Cylinder liners used in diesel engines of combat equipment are prone to cavitation due to wet cooling. The damage caused by erosion and corrosion due to cavitation has a fatal effect on the performance and lifespan of a diesel engine. Therefore, a study was conducted to improve the durability of cylinder liners. Two surface treatment techniques were proposed: nitriding and chrome plating. It was observed that the amount of erosion on the surface of nitride-treated cylinder liners was high because the surface-treated part eroded due to its weak impact resistance against the bubble explosion generated by cavitation. In contrast, the chrome-plated cylinder liner had a lower amount of erosion among the specimens subjected to the accelerated test. These results verified that the resistance of chrome-plated liners against cavitation is high. Therefore, it can withstand the impact of bubble explosion. If the chrome plating thickness is set with reference to the KS standard, an exceptional durability of abrasion, wear resistance, and corrosion resistance can be obtained. If the thickness is set between 120~250㎛, it is expected that the durability of the cylinder liner can be improved. Although a recovery method for corroded cylinder liners is suggested, the proposed method has an inherent risk of crack generation. Therefore, further research is required to solve this problem.

  • Currently, due to industrial development in domestic regions, buildings are saturated not only in major city centers but also in surrounding urban areas. Accordingly, people's attention has focused on underground spaces, and tunnels are being widely used, especially in urban development. Research on tunnels and tunnel excavation methods is actively underway. However, there is a lack of research on the wear and tear problems of sludge discharge pipes when using a slurry shield TBM. Therefore, in this paper, the L-shaped bend pipe used in the existing sludge discharge pipe was transformed into a T-shaped bend pipe to move sludge. As a result, it was confirmed that compared to the L-shaped bend pipe, the impact of the T-shaped bend pipe on the bend pipe when discharging sludge was reduced. Based on these results, it is expected that wear of the sludge discharge pipe can be minimized by using a T-shaped bend pipe when using slurry shield TBM equipment. This is expected to ultimately lead to economic benefits, such as reducing costs due to replacement of curved pipes or additional welding during tunnel construction.

  • For protection of the cylinder wall of the ball mill for grinding raw ore. the inner side of the cylinder is covered with rubber liner. The rubber is easily worn down because the rubber relatively soft compared with raw ore. So the rubber liner in the ball mill cylinder must be replaced almost every year and the cost for replacing rubber liner formidable. In this paper, for reducing or excluding the cost of replacing rubber liner the basalt liner is designed. The basalt materials are generally harder than raw ore and the basalt liner in the ball mill does not wear down and so it can be used almost permanently. The concave surfaces are made on the liner of the ball mill and the liner in the cylinder wall plays also the role of raising the steel balls mixed in the raw ore. The section profiles of the concave surface have an important effect on the performance of the ball mill. The deep concave grooves raise the steel balls to high levels and give the large potential energy to the steel balls impacting to the raw ore. But if the concave grooves are too deep. the steel balls raised too high by the concave grooves fly along the parabolic path and reach to the other side of cylinder wall and so the steel balls do not play the roles of grinding the raw ore. The forces acting to a steel ball in a concave groove of the cylinder liner are also analyzed in this paper. The formulas calculating the height and the impact point of the steel ball are introduced and presented. Based to these formulas, the optimum section profiles of the basalt liner are presented.

  • In the first half of 20th century, there was an abrupt change in society and social values. Therefore, a demand for functional women's sportswear started to increase. This paper has attempted to investigate the impact of functionalism on women's sportswear in the first half of the 20th century. The following results were obtained: First, anti-tradition was observed. There was a tendency to be separated from the past and against tradition. It was tried to pursue freedom, getting away from corset and petticoat. Second, structural functions were targeted. In other words, precise and efficient shapes and simple silhouette and line were emphasized. Third, fitness of purpose was found. More liberal and comfortable design has been targeted. That's why a variety of functional pants have been designed instead of skirts. Fourth, utility and practicality were found. Elastic fabrics such as wool and jersey and sweater have commonly used in sportswear. A variety of new fabrics have been used and details such as flare, slit and pleats have been designed. Lastly, non-ornamentality was found. The beauty of simple shape was pursued by omitting details or eliminating unnecessary ornaments. Monochrome and dark color were preferred and a use of accessories has declined. The result of this paper could be used in establishing a theoretical framework on the impact on social change, values and art and helpful In modern women's sportswear design and marketing which have become more important.
