  • PURPOSES : This paper evaluates, using LS/DYNA-3D software, the vehicle impact performance of flexible barriers made of steel W-Beam supported by four different types of post configurations. These types include circular post, H-shape post, C-shape post, and square post. METHODS : The post-soil interaction has been investigated according to different impact angles. For this purpose, energy absorption, maximum displacements of post and rail, and occupant risk index of THIV have been compared each other. The three dimensional soil material model, instead of the conventional spring model based on Winkler and p-y curve, has been used to increase the correctness of computational model. RESULTS : It is noted the crash energy absorption has been increased with respect to the increase of impact angle. CONCLUSIONS : In particular, a post with open section(H-shape, C-shape) shows the greater crash energy absorption capability as compared with a post with closed section under the same level of impact conditions.

  • In the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, the level of data-efficient utilization greatly affects the performance of the enterprise. This study was to verify the effect on organizational performance and the absorption capacity as a mediate, depending on person-job fit and person-organization fit in organizational memory affordance. According to a survey of 317 employees of large, medium and small businesses, organizations that have sufficient organizational memory have had a positive impact on both person-job fit(PJF) and person-organization fit(POF), and also on absorption capacity. In addition, the organizational memory affordance had a positive effect on absorption capacity by mediating the POF. PJF and POF had a positive effect on management performance, but only POF when mediating absorption capacity showed a positive influence relationship. This study is meaningful by comprehensively empirical analysis of the organizational IT construction environment and the members' perception of organization and job as a leading factor in absorption capacity, and simultaneously demonstrating the impact on organizational performance.

  • It is essential to ensure the safety of spent nuclear fuel (SNF) transport cask in drop situation that is included in transport accident scenarios. The safety of the drop situation is affected by the impact absorption performance of impact limiters. Therefore, when designing an impact limiter, the uncertainty in the material properties that affect the impact absorption performance must be considered. In this study, the material properties of the wood inside the impact limiter were selected as the variables for a parametric study. The sensitivity analysis of the drop response of the SNF transport cask with impact limiter was performed. The minimum wood strength required to prevent a direct collision between the cask and floor was derived from the analysis results. In addition, the plastic strain response was analyzed and strain-based evaluation was performed. Based on this result, the critical values of wood properties that change the impact dynamic characteristics were investigated. Finally, the optimal material properties of wood were obtained to secure the structural safety of the SNF transport cask. The results of this study can contribute to the development of SNF transport cask, thereby ensuring safety in transport accident conditions.

  • In this study, 50 ABE-type hard hats were procured from five certified commercial manufacturers, and shock absorption tests were conducted in accordance with Protective Equipment Safety Certification Notice No. 2020-35. The tests were performed under both high- and low-temperature conditions, adhering to safety helmet testing standards. The highest shock transmission ranges were recorded in the tests, with an average energy range of 2,600-4,108 N at high temperatures and 2,316-3,991 N at low temperatures. All five hard hat models demonstrated a maximum transmitted impact force below 4,450 N, without any loss of cap and attachment functionality, confirming their compliance with performance standards. Furthermore, we evaluated the side impact performance of the safety helmets of each company, with an average range of 4,722-5,267 N. Company A exhibited the lowest measurement at 4,722 N. Comparing these results with international safety standards and the national shock absorption test criteria, it was observed that the maximum transmitted shock value using government-specified impact weight falls within the range of 4,450-5,000 N. However, it was noted that developed countries have established specific standards for the side impact forces on safety helmets, which are legally mandated. Consequently, it is imperative for South Korea to enhance its safety helmet side impact performance test methodology to align with domestic standards in the future.

  • The market share of high-speed railway vehicles is increasing across the world. A high-performance impact energy absorption factor is essential to satisfy the safety standards of railway vehicles. A deformed tube assembly is a typical energy absorption factor in railway vehicles. The tube assembly comprises a deformed tube and a press-fitting punch, its performance depends on the absorption energy characteristics in the plastic zone of the tube. In this study, a deformed tube assembly of a railway vehicle is designed that can absorb a maximum impact energy of 200kJ under plastic deformation. Slab method and finite element analysis are used to estimate the reaction force of the punch in the initial stage, the performance of the designed tube assembly is confirmed experimentally.

  • In this paper, the behavior of woven E-glass fabric composite laminate was experimentally investigated under quasi-static indentation and high velocity impact by flat-ended, hemispherical, conical (cone angle of $37^{\circ}$ and $90^{\circ}$) and ogival (CRH of 1.5 and 2.5) cylindrical perforators. Moreover, the results are compared in order to explore the possibility of extending quasi-static indentation test results to high velocity impact test results in different characteristics such as perforation mechanisms, performance of perforators, energy absorption, friction force, etc. The effects of perforator nose shape, nose length and nose-shank connection shapes were investigated. The results showed that the quasi-static indentation test has a great ability to predict the high velocity impact behavior of the composite laminates especially in several characteristics such as perforation mechanisms, perforator performance. In both experiments, the highest performance occurs for 2.5 CRH projectile and the lowest is related to blunt projectiles. The results show that sharp perforators indicate lower values of dynamic enhancement factor and the flat-ended perforator represents the maximum dynamic enhancement factor among other perforators. Moreover, damage propagation far more occurred in high velocity impact tests then quasi-static tests. The highest damage area is mostly observed in ballistic limit of each projectile which projectile deviation strongly increases this area.

  • During running, the human body experiences repeated impact force between the foot and the ground. The impact force is highly associated with injury of the lower extremity, comfort and running performance. Therefore, shoemakers have developed shoes with various midsole properties to prevent the injury of lower extremity, improve the comfort and enhance the running performance. The purpose of this study is to investigate influence of midsole hardness on shock absorption along the human body during running. Thirty two expert runners consented to participate in the study and ran at a constant speed with three different pairs of shoes with soft, medium and hard midsole respectively. Using accelerometers we measured the shock absorption from shoe heel to cervical vertebral column. In conclusion, at the shoe heel, shock was the greatest with the hard midsole. However because most shock was absorbed between shoe heel and the knee, notable influence of midsole was not detected upper knee. At shoe heel, regardless of midsole hardness, the shock of younger female was the greatest. The authors expect to apply this result for providing a guideline for utilizing proper midsole hardness for manufacturing age and gender-specific shoe.

  • This article examines the effect of inward foreign direct investments (FDI) on the export performance of micro, small & medium enterprises (MSMEs) in India, and investigates the spillover impact and absorption capacity of the MSMEs sector. For the first time, the researchers applied the intersectoral linkage approach to investigate the matter and used a panel dataset between 2006 and 2017. The coefficients of forward and backward linkages are estimated by using the Rasmussen method, the study employs a basic linear panel data model, followed by various diagnostic tests to identify the problem of heteroscedasticity, autocorrelation / serial correlation, cross-sectional dependencies, multicollinearity, time-individual specific tests, and unobserved effects. The PCSE model was applied for robust standard error and the Hausman-Taylor IV model to check the robustness of the result generated in the linear panel data model. Despite the high prevalence of forward and backward intersectoral connections and the Lack of absorption capacity of local firms, the results show that FDI has little of an impact on the export performance of micro, small, and medium-sized businesses in India. This study adds to the existing literature on determining local firms' spillover effect and absorption capacity in response to inward FDI.
