The impact absorption materials made of synthetic organic chemical product like Expanded Polystyrene(EPS), Expanded Polyethylene(EPE), Expanded Polyurethane(EPU), etc. have been used with general packaging material until the present. But nowadays, the use of these materials is intended to be decreased and to be recycled in connection with environmental pollution. In addition, it has been tried to substitute these materials with non-pollution materials(natural materials) like pulp mould, paper protectors, etc. At the same time, it is required to evaluate and analyze these cushioning materials for cushioning properties based on impact and vibration, in order to make an efficiency on the overall packaging system because they are generally being used by a random choice regardless of the properties of contents and cushioning materials. Therefore, this study provides analyzed data on cushioning properties of various cushioning materials against impact and vibration, and is intended to provide more efficient model for packaging system by minimizing their using amount through choosing an optimal cushioning material as well as intended to lead to the use of nonpollution materials in case these cushioning materials have same cushioning properties.

Heavy-weight impact sounds generated by impact ball were classified according to the frequency characteristics on the equal loudness contours. Sound quality metrics such as Zwicker's loudness, sharpness, roughness of each classified impact sound were also measured. Loudness spectrum has been regarded as an indication of the characteristics difference of each classified impact sound. The adjectives in Korean expressing the sound quality characteristics of floor impact sounds were also investigated by adoptability and similarity tests. The group of the adjectives was used to evaluate the sound quality of floor impact sound by semantic differential test method.

In this study, metrics for evaluation of heavy-weight impact noise were investigated. Heavy-weight impact noises generated by impact ball were recorded in real apartments using binaural microphone. Those sounds were classified into three groups according to frequency characteristics in order to control aspects which affect subjective responses to heavy-weight impact noise. Sound sources for auditory experiment were selected based on the classification result. Then auditory experiments were conducted to investigate the relationship between level indices and subjective responses. The results showed that $L_{Aeq},\;L_{Amax}$ and $LL_z$ as well as $L_{iFmax,AW}$ were highly correlated with subjective response. Therefore, $L_{Aeq}$ and $L_{Amax}$ can be used as metrics for evaluation of heavy-weight impact noise. In further studies, it is needed to verify classification of heavy-weight impact noise generated by bang machine and impact ball.

The KS of “Measurements of impact sound insulation of floors” was established before the years. But the KS of “Rating of floor impact sound insulation for impact source in building and of building elements” is not founded yet. To establish the rating measurement of floor impact sound insulation. The studies on the rating method of domestic floor system of impact sound insulation and response of its inhabitant’s were reviewed. And the rating method of ISO’s and JIS’s were studied in this consideration. The result of this study, KS of “Rating of floor impact sound insulation for impact source in building and of building elements” is proposed.
Impact noise caused by the collision of bodies is difficult to estimate because of the complexity of impact phenomenon. In this study, impact noise is estimated using two different methods when the noise is caused by the vibration due to impact. First, impact noise is analyzed using impact analysis and boundary element analysis. Second, modal expansion technique is applied to the estimation of impact noise. Experiment is carried out to validate the analysis results.

The potential hazards resulting from a low-velocity impact (bird-strike, tool drop, runway debris, etc.) on aircraft structures, such as engine nacelle or a leading edges, has been a long-term concern to the aircraft industry. Certification authorities require that exposed aircraft components must be tested to prove their capability to withstand low-velocity impact without suffering critical damage. In most of the past research studies unloaded specimens have been used for impact tests, however, in reality it is much more likely that a composite structure is exposed to a certain stress state when it is being impacted, which can have a significant effect on the impact performance. And the radiated impact sound induced by impact is analyzed for the damage detection evaluation. In this study, an investigation was undertaken to evaluate the effect in-plane loading on the impact force and sound of composite laminates numerically.

An auditory experiment was conducted to establish annoyance criteria for floor impact noise in apartment buildings. Heavyweight floor impact sounds were recorded using an impact ball; the impact sound pressure level (SPL) together with the temporal decay rate (DR), which is quantified by the dB drop per second, was analyzed. For the experiment, A-weighted exposure levels of the heavy-weight floor impact sounds ranging 34~73 dB were evaluated at 3 dB intervals. Participants used a 7-point verbal scale to evaluate the level of annoyance from floor impact noise. The results show that the annoyance increases with increasing impact SPL and decreasing DR. Consequently, a classification and an acceptable level of floor impact sounds were proposed.
During handling unitized products, they are subjected to a variety environmental hazards. Shock and vibration hazards are generally considered the most damaging of the environmental hazards on a product, and it may encounter while passing through the distribution environment. A major cause of shock damage to products is drops during manual handling. The increasing use of unitization on pallets has been resulted in a reduction in the manual handling of products and with it a reduction in the shock hazards. This has caused and increasing interest in research focused on vibration caused damage. the use of pallets as a base for unitizing loads, aids in the mechanical handling, transportation and storage of products. Besides aiding in the handling, transportation and storage of products, a pallet also acts on and interface between the packaged goods and the distribution environment. The determination of the impact deformation of the cushioning materials such as tray cup (polymeric foam) and corrugated fiberboard pad must be carried out to design the proper packaging system providing adequate protection for the fruit, and to understand the complex interaction between the components of fruit when they relate to expected transportation vibration inputs. In this study, the theoretical analysis of impact deformation for cushioning materials by dynamic vibration. The impact deformations of SW and DW corrugated fiberboard pad in acceleration amplitudes of 0.25 G-rms and 0.5 G-rms that were usually generated in transport vehicles during distribution environments were very small compare with the thickness of corrugated fiberboard pad. The maximum of vibration acceleration level of tray cup by vibration impact was about 3.2 G-rms. The theoretical allowable acceleration (G-factor) of the pear was 0.7102 G-rms, and the maximum dynamic deformation estimated within G-factor was about 1 mm.

This study deals with mechanism of relay operation and modeling of transfer function between impact force and sound pressure due to the impact force in order to reduce relay noise. A collision between a moving-contact and fix-contact produces impact noise. Therefore impact noise of relay is determined by not only excitation force but also transfer function from impact force to noise. In this study, we find mechanism of relay operation, make impact force model and measure characteristic of relay noise. And also we find transfer function of relay noise.

In this studies, subjective evaluation of heavy-weight floor impact sound through classification was conducted. Heavyweight impact sounds generated by an impact ball were recorded through dummy heads in apartment buildings. The recordings were classified according to the frequency characteristics of the floor impact sounds which are influenced by the floor structure with different boundary conditions and composite materials. The characteristics of the floor impact noise were investigated by paired comparison tests and semantic differential tests. Sound sources for auditory experiment were selected based on the actual noise levels with perceptual level differences. The results showed that roughness and fluctuation strength as well as loudness of the heavy-weight impact noise had a major effect on annoyance.
