Optimized section shape of aluminum bumper backbeam for enhancing the front high speed crashworthiness was investigated. Front body analysis model of a convertible vehicle was built up and parameter studies were carried out with changing the inner rib shape and the section thickness distribution. First an inner rib shape displaying most efficient structural performance was selected. Next, for the selected section the effect of section thickness combination was examined. Also, a light weighed backbeam section displaying crash performance over the current design was suggested. Finally RCAR front low speed impact analyses were carried out for the optimized models.

This paper examines the relationships between the Korean government-owned banks and the firm performance. We investigates this empirical analysis using a data set containing virtually all Korean publicly listed firms for the period of 2004-2006. We find the negative relationships between government-owned banks and firm performance. The strong relationships between the Korean government-owned banks and the Korean listed firms may lower firm performance. The Hold up costs may be present in the government-owned bank relationships. The government-owned bank relationships in the Korean listed firms may could shape the negative management decisions and firm performance. On the lines of concerns on the impact of government banks, this paper will provide new evidences on the impact of government-ownership of banks on the Korean Economy. Particularly, empirical analyses in this paper revealed new evidences on the recent firm-bank relationship or government banks researches.

The impact of optical receiver configuration on in-band crosstalk-induced penalty has been investigated in both theoretical and experimental analyses, for differential phase-shift keying (DPSK) and differential quadrature phase-shift keying (DQPSK) signals. Previously it has been shown that DPSK signals are ~6 dB more tolerant to in-band crosstalk than on-off keying (OOK) signals. However, we find that the tolerance difference between the two signals is reduced to ~3 dB when the decision threshold of the receiver is optimized to minimize the bit-error rate for each signal. Then we derive simple equations for the in-band crosstalk-induced penalty in DPSK and DQPSK signals with two different optical receiver configurations: balanced and single-ended direct-detection receivers. We confirm that the penalties obtained from our simple equations agree well with the measured results.

Groupware technologies have become an important part of the business computing infrastructure in many organizations, but many groupware applications, especially those requiring significant collaboration among users, are still nut adequately used. The purpose of the paper is to explore the impact of groupware on the job performance. Recently, utilization of new information technology such as groupware can increase office productivity, but often this potential is not realized. Results of most studies indicate that groupware could increase the productivity of knowledge workers, who compose the majority of the labor force in the organization. The study on the impact of job characteristics on groupware and job performance is not sufficient. This study examines the influence of job characteristics such as job diversity, autonomy, and feedback on the use of groupware and job performance. In addition to that, this study examines the influence of the use of groupware on job performance. The results of regression analyses revealed that feedback was the major predictor of job performance, while autonomy and job diversity were the Haler predictors of the use of groupware. Also, the use of groupware were found to be important predictors of job performance.

With growing competition and increasing consumer demands, companies pay more attention than ever to market mavens who play a central role in diffusing marketplace information and influencing others' decisions. To enhance our understanding of the market maven, this paper examines the role of market mavenism in shaping consumers' shopping values (utilitarian value, hedonic value) and their post-purchase satisfaction or dissatisfaction. Regression analyses revealed that market mavenism had a positive impact on hedonic shopping values, and post-purchase satisfaction. The findings showed that hedonic shopping values had a significant impact on post-purchase satisfaction while utilitarian shopping value did not have any significant relationship. Findings of the study also suggest that market mavens pursue hedonic shopping values and exhibit greater post-purchase dissatisfaction than others. Practitioners are recommended to create entertaining retail environments for market mavens who seek hedonic values when they shop. The results also suggest that practitioners need to pay close attention to market mavens at the post-purchase stage since they can be extremely dissatisfied.

The measurements of nutrient and runoff in 4 streams have been performed before and after the rainfall in order to estimate nutrient loads in the Yongdam reservoir. The equations for the relationship between the flow and the loads in each stream could be estimated by the regression analysis. R2 of TN showed the range from 0.95 to 0.99 and the range of R2 for TP was 0.90~0.95 based on the results of the regression analyses. In 2002, total loadings from the upstream to the Yongdam reservoir were TN 1,175 ton/year, TP 69 ton/year. There were 64.9% of TN and 72.3% of TP during 4 months as the flood season. Due to the rainfall, the load of TP was higher than one of TN in Yongdam reservoir.

The free vibration analyses of the isotropic and composite(CFRP, GFRP) rectangular plates with point supports at the free edge and middle position are performed. The natural frequencies and nodal patterns of plates with point supports are experimentally determined by impact testing using an impact hammer. To compare and verify these experimental results, the finite element analysis is also carried out. The effect of the point support position, the number of point supports, and the anisotropic parameters on the natural frequencies and nodal patterns of cantilevered rectangular plates are investigated.

As the construction of renewable energy generators is on the rise and gets bigger in size, researchers pay more and more attention to the impact of such facilities on the power market as well as on the stability of power grid system. In Korea, while studies on the latter, including calculating the marginal capacity of renewable energy generators, is being made, those on the former has not yet been performed. As such, this paper analyses the impact of a big renewable energy generators on the price and transaction cost of domestic power market and proposes ideas to minimize such influence by applying the technology of forecasting renewable energy.

The paper is oriented towards a reflection on the epistemological extension of world history. This discipline is currently opening up for new subjects and new foci of interest, with environmental history being one of them. The paper debates the interaction between the global and the local as one of the main issues of world history. It analyses the impacts of the interconnectivity of diverse regions as well as different geographical and cultural complexes, during the period between 1500 and 1800. Assuming that the sea in its economic, cultural and environmental dimensions contributed actively to world history, and is, in itself, a major factor of globalization, the paper intends to highlight interdependencies which fostered connections between the local and the global. It further submits to discussion which was the impact of an on-going globalization process, based on maritime dynamics, on the environment. Through an analysis centered on the impact of European overseas expansion, some environmental impacts will be analyzed. The paper aims at questioning environmental history as an emergent theme of world history, based on the historical experience of connecting worlds developed in the First Global Age (1500-1800).

Front side member of the front impacted vehicle plays a key role in minimizing the impacting load transferred to the compartment. To perform that required function, axial collapse should be dominant during side member crashing and, prior to designing side member, it is crucial to minimize bending moment occurred at the front end. In this study, for FE model of a SUV front body, front impact analyses were carried to find out bumper stay design which effectively develope axial collapse in the side member. As a previous work, the thickness of side member reinforcement were changed. Next, the inner thickness of bumper stay was increased. Also, the bead shape and location were modified. Final front body model showed much more axial collapsed mode and enhanced crash performance. In addition, a stay of octagon section was adopted and that model exhibited distinctive increase in impact energy absorption.
