  • This study investigated the students' perceptions of environmental scientists and their work and the factors influencing the students' images of them by using the Draw-An-Environmental-Scientist-Test (DAEST). The DAEST was administered to 413 students in 10th and 11th grades selected from three high schools in Seoul. The results revealed that the students' images of environmental scientists were different from the stereotypical images of scientists. In the students' drawings, it was difficult to distinguish the gender and age of environmental scientists. Most students also perceived environmental scientists collecting data on environmental pollution by using experimental equipments and a laptop computer in the field. The students answered that the factors affecting their images of environmental scientists were mass media, school education, internet, and so on. According to the students' grade and gender, there were differences in the perceptions of environmental scientists and their work, and there were factors that influenced their images. Educational implications of these findings are discussed.

  • Today, construction fence screens which were understood simply as structures of separating people from the dangers of construction sites have evolved into landmarks to enhance the images of Cities. Now, construction fence screens should have the function as landmarks stimulating people's sensibility through providing aesthetic values as well as the function of protecting people from the dangers of fields of construction. For this reason, this study tried 1) to show the relationships among these 4 classifications. is 4 realms of Human Beings - Cultural - Ecological - Digital in the expression methods of the construction fence screens of Seoul and 2) to simplify the characteristic elements of construction fence screens by way of extracting with Ecology, Installation Art, Symbolic, Commercial Expression. This study examined whether or not the construction fence screens of Seoul were playing the role as landmarks stimulating people's sensibility with sustainable improvement to the environment of Seoul as public design structures, by investigating some of the construction fence screens of Seoul. Also through analyzing the diversity of expression methods of the construction fence screens of other local governments as well as those of Seoul, we hope that they will be the public structures for enhancing the images of Cities.

  • This paper proposes a new approach with a distance-based regularization to the entropy applied to the NBV (Next-Best-View) selection with NeRF (Neural Radiance Fields). 3D reconstruction requires images from various viewpoints, and selecting where to capture these images is a highly complex problem. In a recent work, image acquisition was derived using NeRF's ray-based uncertainty. While this work was effective for evaluating candidate viewpoints at fixed distances from a camera to an object, it is limited when dealing with a range of candidate viewpoints at various distances, because it tends to favor selecting viewpoints at closer distances. Acquiring images from nearby viewpoints is beneficial for capturing surface details. However, with the limited number of images, its image selection is less overlapped and less frequently observed, so its reconstructed result is sensitive to noise and contains undesired artifacts. We propose a method that incorporates distance-based regularization into entropy, allowing us to acquire images at distances conducive to capturing both surface details without undesired noise and artifacts. Our experiments with synthetic images demonstrated that NeRF models with the proposed distance and entropy-based criteria achieved around 50 percent fewer reconstruction errors than the recent work.

  • The stereostatic surgery becomes a important part of neurosurgery. The conventional style of stereostatic system uses a input method of film digitizing. It is time consuming and laborious. In this paper, we presented a system that can manage digital images from medical imaging machine to surgery assisting program. CT images were transferred in DICOM format to a surgery assisting computer in a operation room through PACS. The streotatic surgery assisting program processed the digital images and calculated the parameters that were required in steostatic surgery. The assisting program were developed that can detect the reference points automatically, transform CT coordinate to frame coordinate and calculate the RM (Riechert-Mundinger) frame. This system were applied to clinical cases in Seoul National Univ. Hospital. The two advantages of this system were revealed. The processing time from imaging to surgery parameters were much aster than conventional system. The surgery accuracy were more mininute as the digitizing error were reduced. This system were a good application of connecting imaging machines to clinical treatment system through PACS.

  • Virtual Brain-endoscopy is an effective method to detect lesion in brain. Brain is the most part of the human and is not easy part to operate so that reconstructing in 3D may be very helpful to doctors. In this paper, it is suggested that to increase the reliability, method of matching 3D object with the 2D CT slice. 3D Brain-endoscopy is reconstructed with 35 slices of 2D CT images. There is a plate in 3D brain-endoscopy so as to drag upward or downward to match the relevant 2D CT image. Relevant CT image guides the user to recognize the exact part he or she is investigating. VRML Script is used to make the change in images and PlaneSensor node is used to transmit the y coordinate value with the CT image. The result is test on the PC which has the following spec. 400MHz Clock-speed, 512MB ram, and FireGL 3000 3D accelerator is set up. The VRML file size is 3.83MB. There was no delay in controlling the 3D world and no collision in changing the CT images. This brain-endoscopy can be also put to practical use on medical education through internet.

  • Arriving in the new space age, securing technology for fusion application of KOMPSAT-3·3A and global satellite images is becoming more important. In general, multi-sensor satellite images have relative geometric errors due to various external factors at the time of acquisition, degrading the quality of the satellite image outputs. Therefore, we propose a fine-image registration methodology to minimize the relative geometric error between KOMPSAT-3·3A and global satellite images. After selecting the overlapping area between the KOMPSAT-3·3A and foreign satellite images, the spatial resolution between the two images is unified. Subsequently, tie-points are extracted using a hybrid matching method in which feature- and area-based matching methods are combined. Then, fine-image registration is performed through iterative registration based on pyramid images. To evaluate the performance and accuracy of the proposed method, we used KOMPSAT-3·3A, Sentinel-2A, and PlanetScope satellite images acquired over Daejeon city, South Korea. As a result, the average RMSE of the accuracy of the proposed method was derived as 1.2 and 3.59 pixels in Sentinel-2A and PlanetScope images, respectively. Consequently, it is considered that fine-image registration between multi-sensor satellite images can be effectively performed using the proposed method.

  • Purpose: The aims of the present study were to compare the image quality and visibility of tooth cracks between conventional methods and swept-source optical coherence tomography (SS-OCT) and to develop an automatic detection technique for tooth cracks by SS-OCT imaging. Methods: We evaluated SS-OCT with a near-infrared wavelength centered at 1,310 nm over a spectral bandwidth of 100 nm at a rate of 50 kHz as a new diagnostic tool for the detection of tooth cracks. The reliability of the SS-OCT images was verified by comparing the crack lines with those detected using conventional methods. After performing preprocessing of the obtained SS-OCT images to emphasize cracks, an algorithm was developed and verified to detect tooth cracks automatically. Results: The detection capability of SS-OCT was superior or comparable to that of trans-illumination, which did not discriminate among the cracks according to depth. Other conventional methods for the detection of tooth cracks did not sense initial cracks with a width of less than $100{\mu}m$. However, SS-OCT detected cracks of all sizes, ranging from craze lines to split teeth, and the crack lines were automatically detected in images using the Hough transform. Conclusions: We were able to distinguish structural cracks, craze lines, and split lines in tooth cracks using SS-OCT images, and to automatically detect the position of various cracks in the OCT images. Therefore, the detection capability of SS-OCT images provides a useful diagnostic tool for cracked tooth syndrome.

  • Purpose The present study aimed at assessing the effectiveness of the respiratory gating method used in the flow mode and additional localized respiratory-gated imaging, which differs from the step and go method. Materials and Methods Respiratory gated imaging was performed in the flow mode to twenty patients with lung cancer (10 patients with stable signals and 10 patients with unstable signals), who underwent PET/CT scanning of the torso using Biograph mCT Flow PET/CT at Bundang Seoul University Hospital from June 2016 to September 2016. Additional images of the lungs were obtained by using the respiratory gating method. SUVmax, SUVmean, and Tumor Volume ($cm^3$) of non-gating images, gating images, and additional lung gating images were found with Syngo, bia (Siemens, Germany). A paired t-test was performed with GraphPad Prism6, and changes in the width of the amplitude range were compared between the two types of gating images. Results The following results were obtained from all patients when the respiratory gating method was applied: $SUV_{max}=9.43{\pm}3.93$, $SUV_{mean}=1.77{\pm}0.89$, and $Tumor\;Volume=4.17{\pm}2.41$ for the non-gating images, $SUV_{max}=10.08{\pm}4.07$, $SUV_{mean}=1.75{\pm}0.81$, and $Tumor\;Volume=3.56{\pm}2.11$ for the gating images, and $SUV_{max}=10.86{\pm}4.36$, $SUV_{mean}=1.77{\pm}0.85$, $Tumor\;Volume=3.36{\pm}1.98$ for the additional lung gating images. No statistically significant difference in the values of $SUV_{mean}$ was found between the non-gating and gating images, and between the gating and lung gating images (P>0.05). A significant difference in the values of $SUV_{max}$ and Tumor Volume were found between the aforementioned groups (P<0.05). The width of the amplitude range was smaller for lung gating images than gating images for 12 from 20 patients (3 patients with stable signals, 9 patients with unstable signals). Conclusion In PET/CT scanning using the respiratory gating method in the flow mode, any lesion movements caused by respiration were adjusted; therefore, more accurate measurements of $SUV_{max}$, and Tumor Volume could be obtained from the gating images than the non-gating images in this study. In addition, the width of the amplitude range decreased according to the stability of respiration to a more significant degree in the additional lung gating images than the gating images. We found that gating images provide information that is more useful for diagnosis than the one provided by non-gating images. For patients with irregular signals, it may be helpful to perform localized scanning additionally if time allows.
