  • According to the increase of audio and video data utilization, the presentation of multimedia data contents and the work of retrieving, storing and manipulating a multimedia data have been the focus of recent work. The display for multimedia data should retrieve and access the contents easily that users want to present. This study is about the design and implementation of a system to retrieve multimedia data based on the contents of documentation or the caption information of a multimedia data for retrieving documentation including multimedia data. It intends to develop an filtering step to retrieve all of keyword within the caption information of multimedia data and text of a documentation. Also, the system is designed to retrieve a large amount of data quickly using an inverted file structure available for B+ tree.

  • As technology in a computer hardware and software advances, efficient information retrieval from multimedia database gets highly demanded. Recently, it has been actively exploited to retrieve information based on the stored contents. However, most of the methods emphasize on the points which are far from human intuition or emotion. In order to overcome this shortcoming , this paper attempts to apply interactive genetic algorithm to content-based image retrieval. A preliminary result with subjective test shows the usefulness of this approach.

  • In this paper, MIIS (Medical Image Information System) has been designed and implemented using INGRES RDBMS, which is based on a client/server architecture. The implemented system allows users to register and retrieve patient information, medical images and diagnostic reports. It also provides the function to display these information on workstation windows simultaneously by using the designed menu-driven graphic user interface. The medical image compression/decompression techniques are implemented and integrated into the medical image database system for the efficient data storage and the fast access through the network.

  • In order to retrieve ocean wind from SAR() image, and to estimate and validate between SAR-derived wind and in-situ wind, with RADAR SAR ocean images and real time marine meteorological data. It was used images with more than 10km to analyze the band of wind in SAR image by FFT(First Fourier Transformation) method and was used CMOD5 as wind retrieval model to retrieve ocean wind. In this study, generally it showed good results as RMS presented 0.8m/s for speed and 8 degree for direction, and especially when wind was hish speed, it presented very good results.

  • In content-based image retrieval, the query is an image itself and the retrieval process is the process that seeking the similar images to the given query image. In this way of retrieval, the user has to know the basic physical features of target images that he wants to retrieve. But it has some restriction because to retrieve the target image he has to know the basic physical feature space such as color, texture, shape and spatial relationship. In this paper, we propose an emotion-based retrieval system. It uses the emotion that color images have. It is different from past emotion-based image retrieval in point of view that it uses relevance feedback to estimate the users intend and it is easily combined with past content-based image retrieval system. To test the performance of our proposed system, we use MPEG-7 color descriptor and emotion language such as "warm", "clean", "bright" and "delight" We test about 1500 wallpaper images and get successful result.lpaper images and get successful result.

  • Query-by-example (QBE) is a well-known method for image retrieval. In reality, however, an example image to be used for the query is rarely available. Therefore, it is often necessary to find a good example image to be used for the query before applying the QBE method. Query-by-layout (QBL) is our proposal for that purpose. In particular, we make use of the visual descriptors such as the edge histogram descriptor (EHD) and the color layout descriptor (CLD) in MPEG-7. Since image features of the CLD and the EHD can be localized in terms of a$4{\times}4$ sub-image, we can specify image features such as color and edge distribution on each sub-image separately for image retrieval without a query image. Experimental results show that the proposed query method can be used to retrieve a good image as a starting point for further QBE-based image retrieval.

  • The progress of mobile computing technology is bringing a large amount of multimedia contents such as image. Thus, we need an image retrieval system which searches semantically relevant image. In this paper, we propose a semantic image annotation and retrieval in mobile environments. Previous mobile-based annotation approaches cannot fully express the semantics of image due to the limitation of current form (i.e., keyword tagging). Our approach allows mobile devices to annotate the image automatically using the context-aware information such as temporal and spatial data. In addition, since we annotate the image using RDF(Resource Description Framework) model, we are able to query SPARQL for semantic image retrieval. Our system implemented in android environment shows that it can more fully represent the semantics of image and retrieve the images semantically comparing with other image annotation systems.

  • In this paper we propose both the construction of image DB including information on the shooting location and direction of the captured outdoor images and the efficient retrieval method from the DB. Furthermore, for the automatic extraction of the location and direction information, we suggest to have the Digital Camera equipped with an expandable GPS modulo which has a function to calculate the location and direction and also to utilize GPS IFD tags in the EXIF. Then that will make it possible for us to retrieve quickly and precisely the target image with its geography and other objects on the ground included. In the previous retrieval method based only on the location, we eel some extra useless images due to the fact that all the images in the ROI(Region Of Interest) are searched on one condition, radius. However, with the proposed method in this paper, we can not only retrieve all the images selectively within the ROI but also achieve nearly 100% of precision when we search for the target images within DOI(Direction Of Interest) with another condition, direction, added. Applying this method to an image retrieval system, we can classify or retrieve natural images based on the location and direction information, which, in turn, will be vitally useful to diverse industrial fields such as disaster alarm system, fire and disaster prevention system, traffic information system, and so forth.

  • Large-scale retrieval algorithm is problem for visual analyses applications, along its research track. In this paper, we propose a high-efficiency region division-based image retrieve approaches, which fuse low-level local color histogram feature and texture feature. A novel image region division is proposed to roughly mimic the location distribution of image color and deal with the color histogram failing to describe spatial information. Furthermore, for optimizing our region division retrieval method, an image descriptor combining local color histogram and Gabor texture features with reduced feature dimensions are developed. Moreover, we propose an extended Canberra distance method for images similarity measure to increase the fault-tolerant ability of the whole large-scale image retrieval. Extensive experimental results on several benchmark image retrieval databases validate the superiority of the proposed approaches over many recently proposed color-histogram-based and texture-feature-based algorithms.

  • Satellite and aerial images are very useful means to monitor ecological and environmental situation. Nowadays more and more officials at Ministry of Environment in Korea need to access and use these image data through networks like internet or intranet. However it is very hard to manage and service these image data through internet or intranet, because of its size problem. In this paper very large image data service system for Ministry of Environment is constructed on web environment using image compression and web based image processing technology. Through this system, not only can officials in Ministry of Environment access and use all the image data but also can achieve several image processing effects on web environment. Moreover officials can retrieve attribute information from vector GIS data that are also integrated with the system.
