  • This paper represents the design of a real-time image preprocessing system. The preprocessing system performs hardware-wise mask operations and thresholding operations at the speed of camera output single rate. The preprocessing system consists of the preprocessing board and the main processing board. The preprocessing board includes preprocessing unit that includes a $5\times5$ mask processor and LUT, and can perform mask and threshold operations in real-time. To achieve high-resolution image input data($20485\timesn$), the preprocessing board has a linescan camera interface. The main processing board includes the image processor unit and main processor unit. The image processor unit is equipped with TI's TMS320C32 DSP and can perform image processing algorithms at high speed. The main processor unit controls the operation of total system. The proposed system is faster than the conventional CPU based system.

Robust Extraction of Lean Tissue Contour From Beef Cut Surface Image

  • A hybrid image processing system which automatically distinguished lean tissues in the image of a complex beef cut surface and generated the lean tissue contour has been developed. Because of the in homegeneous distribution and fuzzy pattern of fat and lean tissue on the beef cut, conventional image segmentation and contour generation algorithm suffer from a heavy computing requirement, algorithm complexity and poor robustness. The proposed system utilizes an artificial neural network enhance the robustness of processing. The system is composed of pre-network , network and post-network processing stages. At the pre-network stage, gray level images of beef cuts were segmented and resized to be adequate to the network input. Features such as fat and bone were enhanced and the enhanced input image was converted tot he grid pattern image, whose grid was formed as 4 X4 pixel size. at the network stage, the normalized gray value of each grid image was taken as the network input. Th pre-trained network generated the grid image output of the isolated lean tissue. A training scheme of the network and the separating performance were presented and analyzed. The developed hybrid system showed the feasibility of the human like robust object segmentation and contour generation for the complex , fuzzy and irregular image.

  • In commercial digital-cameras, color-filter filters light according to wavelength range of color filter array (CFA) and the filtered intensities contain color information of light. Then, output data of CFA is transformed to final rendered image through demosaicing process. In image processing of digital-camera, the quality of the final rendered image is affected by optical cross talk of CFA, kind of CFA pattern etc. Basically, pattern of CFA plays important role in image quality of final image rendered by digital-camera. Therefore, an evaluation system capable of quantitatively evaluating CFA is needed. This paper proposes a novel evaluation system using existing and proposed image metrics for evaluating CFAs of digital-camera. Proposed CFA evaluation system consist of color difference in CIELAB and S-CIELAB, Structure SImilarity (SSIM), MTF50, moire starting point (MSP), and subjective preference (SP). MSP and SP are newly designed for the proposed evaluation system. Proposed evaluation system is expressed in polar coordinates to analyze the characteristics of CFA objectively and intuitively. Through simulations, we confirmed that proposed CFA evaluation system can objectively assess performance of developed CFAs.

Design of a Comparator with Improved Noise and Delay for a CMOS Single-Slope ADC with Dual CDS Scheme (Dual CDS를 수행하는 CMOS 단일 슬로프 ADC를 위한 개선된 잡음 및 지연시간을 가지는 비교기 설계)

  • This paper proposes a comparator structure that improves the noise and output delay of a single-slope ADC(SS-ADC) used in CMOS Image Sensor (CIS). To improve the noise and delay characteristics of the output, a comparator structure using the miller effect is designed by inserting a capacitor between the output node of the first stage and the output node of the second stage of the comparator. The proposed comparator structure improves the noise, delay of the output, and layout area by using a small capacitor. The CDS counter used in the single slop ADC is designed using a T-filp flop and bitwise inversion circuit, which improves power consumption and speed. The single-slope ADC also performs dual CDS, which combines analog correlated double sampling (CDS) and digital CDS. By performing dual CDS, image quality is improved by reducing fixed pattern noise (FPN), reset noise, and ADC error. The single-slope ADC with the proposed comparator structure is designed in a 0.18-㎛ CMOS process.

  • In this paper, we propose a method that acquires proper image for barcode reading on camera-based barcode reading system. In the camera system, there is serious blurring problem, and to get proper output of the barcode, it must be solved. To solve it, we proposed two methods. The first one is to make the camera movable, so it can change the distance of focus. The other is software approach, and threshold value is revised through regression analysis. Using such process, we can notice that blurring problem can be overcome.

  • With increasing interest in the reduction of cost for operation and maintenance of overhead catenary system, various methods of condition monitoring have been developed and used in with high-speed analysis and advanced image processing techniques. This study utilizes a high-speed camera as inspecting system to measure the wear, stagger, hight and arc extinguishing test of overhead catenary system. All measuring image were captured by a high speed CMOS camera with PCI express output, which can acquire up to 1000 frames per second with the resolution 1024 × 1280 pixels. Line type laser source with a power equal to 300 mW and the National Instrument LabVIEW (8.0) based on vision acquisition software have been used in application programming interface for image acquisition, display, and storage. The proposed high-speed camera system is finally applied to measure the overhead catenary system showing promising on-field applications

  • In this paper a Phase-based virtual image encryption and decryption techniques based on a joint transform correlator (JTC) are proposed. In this method, an encrypted image is obtained by multiplying a phase-encoded virtual image that contains no information from the decrypted image with a random phase. Even if this encryption process converts a virtual image into a white-noise-like image, the unauthorized users can permit a counterfeiting of the encrypted image by analyzing the random phase mask using some phase-contrast technique. However, they cannot reconstruct the required image because the virtual image protects the original image from counterfeiting and unauthorized access. The proposed encryption technique does not suffer from strong auto-correlation terms appearing in the output plane. In addition, the reconstructed data can be directly transmitted to a digital system for real-time processing. Based on computer simulations, the proposed encryption technique and decoding system were demonstrated as adequate for optical security applications.

  • In this paper, the proposal system can achieve the more safety of RFID System with the 2-step authentication procedures for the enhancement about the security of general RFID systems. After authentication RFID Tag, additionally, the proposal system extract the characteristic information in the user image for acquisition of the additional authentication information of the user with the camera. In this paper, the system which was proposed more enforce the security of the automatic entrance and exit authentication system with the cognitive characters of RFID Tag and the extracted characteristic information of the user image through the camera. The RFID system which use the active tag and reader with 2.4GHz bandwidth can recognize the tag of RFID in the various output manner. Additionally, when the RFID system have errors, the characteristic information of the user image is designed to replace the RFID system as it compare with the similarity of the color, outline and input image information which was recorded to the database previously. In the result of experiment, the system can acquire more exact results as compared with the single authentication system when it using RFID Tag and the information of color characteristics.

  • We have designed embedded web sewer system and ported Linux operating system version 2.4.5 at our system. And then We implemented to control and monitor widely separated hardware and implemented to monitor widely separated image using CMOS image sensor HV7131B. Web server is the Boa web server with General Public License. We designed for this system using of Intel's SA1110 ARM core base processor and connecting input and output device at GPIO port of SA1110. Device driver of General purpose I/O for Embedded Linux OS is designed. And then the application program controlling driver is implemented to use of common gate interface C language. User is available to control and monitor at client PC. This method have benefit to reduce the Expenditure of hardware design and development time against PC base system and have various and capacious application against firmware base system.

  • This paper describes the developed results of vision system for the recognition of material management characters, which was included in the billet image. The material management characters, which was marked at the surface of billet, should be recognized before billet moves to the next process. Our vision system for the character recognition includes that CCD camera system which acquire billet image, optical transmission system which transmit captured image to the long distance, input and output system for the interface with existing system and software for the character recognition. We have installed our vision system at the wire rod line of steel & iron plant and tested. Also, we have performed inspection of durability, reliability and recognition rate. Through the testing, we have confirmed that our system have high recognition rate, 98.6%.
