  • With a long crotch length and much ease in the hip area, baggy pants are visually expressed in a variety of designs when compared with regular pants. The purpose of this study is to define the image differences of various baggy pants designs according to hip circumference and crotch length ease. To that end, this study deduced the visual image variable of experimental baggy pants and analyzed visual images according to changes in hip circumference and crotch length. Nine baggy pants with different levels of hip circumference and crotch length ease were produced as experimental pants. The image of each pair of experimental baggy pants was evaluated based on pictures taken of the pants worn by a woman in her 20s with a standard body figure. The image assessment team was composed of 105 clothing majors. The research results are as follows. Four visual image factors of experimental baggy pants were extracted: whole body compensation, lower body compensation, hip compensation, and waist compensation. Among the 4 factors, the whole body compensation factor was shown as the most representative factor. The body compensation image was higher with less hip circumference ease in the experimental baggy pants, and more hip circumference ease created the optical illusion of a larger body figure, presenting a significant difference between waist circumference and hip circumference. The lower body compensation factor, hip compensation factor, and waist compensation factor all showed a significant influence on changes in hip circumference ease. This result shows that changes in hip circumference ease exerted more influence on the body compensation image than did changes in crotch length ease. The results of this study provide basic data for predicting visual images according to differences in the level of ease in baggy pants, helping people select clothing suitable to their preferences and body shapes.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate self-esteem, body image, body cathexis and body attitude of female middle school students. A total of 298 subjects were included in this study. Subjects were classified into weight control group and a non weight control group. As a result of analyzing body shapes satisfaction was higher in the non weight control group 2.83 than in the weight control group 2.28 (p<0.001). The weight control group revealed lower body satisfaction than the non weight control group. The result of the reason for weight control was the ratio of 'weight loss' 84.6%, respectively (p<0.001). Factors impacting physical image of female middle school students were analyzed as friends (3.46), internet (3.22), and TV (3.13). Results suggest that educational program should be combined with a positive emphasis on physical image and self-esteem for female middle school students. Also, there was a high correlation between body weight and self-esteem. Results indicate that female middle school students are interested in weight loss with the wrong body image. Therefore, female middle school students should be provided with an educational approach to such issues so that they have a realistic perception of their body and form realistic values about self-esteem and body.

  • The purpose of this study was to find out if body image and conspicuous consumption tendency influenced luxury brand buying behaviour. A survey questionnaire was used to collect information from 430 females in their 20's. Collected data were subjected to descriptive analysis, factor analysis, and path analysis. Results showed that body image and conspicuous consumption tendency consisted of five factors. In terms of body image, attitude towards changing appearance, attitude towards changing body figure/weight, and interest in health/appearance had a positive effect on conspicuous consumption tendency, which ultimately influenced luxury brand buying behaviour. In contrast, body cathexis and physical self-concept had a negative effect on conspicuous consumption tendency, which also directly influenced luxury brand buying behaviour.

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to identify factors associated with stroke patients' quality of life (QOL) and examine the mediating effects of interpersonal relations in the relationships of activities of daily living (ADL) and body image with QOL. Methods: In this study, 160 stroke patients were recruited from an outpatient clinic of a university hospital and rehabilitation clinic of a long-term care hospital. Participants completed a questionnaire which included sociodemographic characteristics, ADL, body image, interpersonal relation, and QOL. Descriptive statistics, t-tests, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients, multiple regression analysis, and process macro mediation analysis were conducted using SPSS. Results: The mean scores were 91.01 (range 6~100) for ADL, 61.19 (range 40~79) for body image, 87.53 (range 29~123) for interpersonal relations, and 186.67 (range 71~243) for QOL. Multiple regression analyses showed that ADL, body image, interpersonal relations, and participation in group activities after stroke were significantly associated with QOL among stroke patients (p<.05). There were no mediating effects of interpersonal relations in the relationships of ADL and body image with QOL (p>.05). • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the influences of health perception, body image and sexual function on depression according to the menopausal stage in Korean middle aged women. Methods: Subjects were 182 perimenopausal and postmenopausal women who had not received hormonal replacement therapy. A five-item General HealthShort Form (SF-36) Health Survey Questionnaire (Ware & Sherbourne, 1992) was used to measure health perception. Body image was measured Semantic Differential scale, CES-D was used to measure the level of depression, and sexual function was measured by FSFI. Results: The subjects rated their health as 'moderate', their body image as 'moderate, and level of depression as 'high'. However, there were no significant differences in health perception, body image, and depression between perimenopasual and postmenopausal women. Postmenopausal women experienced lower levels of sexual function than perimenopausal women in sexual arousal, lubrication, orgasm, satisfaction, and pain. In stepwise regression analysis, 21.7% of variance in depression was shown to be perceived health and body image in postmenopausal women. However, in perimenopausal women, perceived health and sexual function explained 34.5% of variance in depression. Conclusion: These findings indicate that nurses must consider the menopasusal stage when counseling their patients.
