  • The purpose of this study is to examine the images of libraries and librarians in Korean children's literature. For this purpose, fourteen children's fictions that the main background is library are analyzed. Library's role appeared in the children's fictions is focused on reading books. In the children's fictions, librarians are usually women and described as friendly and active people. And their role is shown as strongly committed to children's reading activities. Library services and activities for information literacy education and cultural development of children is hardly reflected in the fictions. It implicates that the libraries and librarians in children's literature is very reflective of those in the real world.

  • This paper presents the implementation of a Tiling System about Preprocessing functions of JPEG 2000. The system covers the JPEG 2000 standard and is designed to determine the size of the image, to expand the image area and to split input image into several tiles. In order to split the input image with the progressive transmission into several tiles and transmit a tile of this image to others, this system store this image into Frame Memory. Therefore, this is designed as the Finite State Machine (FSM) to sequence through specific patterns of states in a predetermined sequential manner by using Verilog-HDL and be designed to handle a maximum 5M image. Moreover, for identifying image size for expansion, we propose several formula which are based on remainder after division (rem). we propose the true table which determines the size of the image input patterns by using results of these formula. Under the condition of TSMC 0.25um ASIC library, gate count is 18,725 and maximum data arrival time is 18.94 [ns].

  • The purpose of the study is to design and propose metadata standard for building AI training dataset of landmark images. In order to achieve the purpose, we first examined and analyzed the state of art of the types of image retrieval systems and their indexing methods, comprehensively. We then investigated open training dataset and machine learning tools for image object recognition. Sequentially, we selected metadata elements optimized for the AI training dataset of landmark images and defined the input data for each element. We then concluded the study with implications and suggestions for the development of application services using the results of the study.

  • Since the year 2000, the need for an improvement of archival descriptions has been an increasing issue, due to the growing usage and amount of archival materials. Unlike the development of descriptions for paper records, however, the technological development and research for moving image descriptions has been limited due to its diversity and specificity. This research investigated the current status and the specificity of the moving image descriptions and also examined major international archival description cases. In-depth interviews with archival professionals were also conducted. Based on the findings, this study suggested the need for redefinition of and continuous research on the fundamental values of moving image information, moving image description and management based on digilog view points, the development of user-centric description and search aides, the creation of moving image values using a relevant information management system, and the improvement of moving image description elements throughout the life-cycle of the material.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the semantic network analysis to understand image contents and to examine the degree to which words, word clusters contributed to the formation of semantic map within image contents. For this research, from 1993 until 2016 the field of the image contents were collected for a total of 2,624 cases papers. The word appeared in Title analyzed the social network by using the R program of Big Data. The results were as follows: First, The field of image contents is based on researches related to 'image', 'media' and 'contents'. Second, there is a three-step flow ('education' -> 'media' -> 'contents') of research in the field of image contents. Third, researches related to 'broadcasting', 'digital', 'technology', and 'production' were continuously carried out. Finally, There were new research subjects for each regime.

  • Relevance judgment is important in terms of improving the effectiveness of information retrieval systems, and it has been dominant for users to search and use images utilizing internet and digital technologies. However, in the field of image retrieval, there have been only a few studies in terms of identifying relevance criteria. The purpose of this study aims to identify and characterize the non-relevance criteria from the failed image searches. In order to achieve the purpose of this study, a total of 135 participants were recruited and a total of 1,452 criteria items were collected for this study. Analyses and identification on the data set found thirteen criteria such as 'topicality', 'visual content', 'accuracy', 'visual feature', 'completeness', 'appeal to user', 'focal point', 'bibliographic information', 'impression', 'posture', 'face feature', 'novelty', and 'time frame'. Among these criteria, 'visual content' and 'focal point' were introduced in this current study, while 'action' criterion identified in previous studies was not shown in this current study. When image needs and image uses are analyzed with these criteria, there are distinctive differences depending on different image needs and uses.

  • Indexing images using traditional indexing methods like taxonomy is not always efficient because of its visual content. This study examined how to apply folksonomies to image retrieval. To do this, first, we developed a category model for image tags found in Flickr. The model includes five categories and seventeen subcategories. Second, in order to evaluate the usefulness of the model to represent the various image tags as well as to investigate the end-user tagging behavior, three researchers classified the sampled image tags(141 most popular tags, 105 tags on three individual tag clouds and 3,848 image tags assigned on 156 images) according to the model. Finally, based on the research results, we proposed three methods for efficient image retrieval: extending folksonomies by combining them with ontologies; improving image retrieval efficiency using visual content and folksonomies; and updating taxonomy using folksonomies.

  • The purpose of this paper Is to describe the matters to plan the best information systems in Korean old books. It analyzes: i) a range of definition of old books, ii) its characteristics and current state of processing the old documents, iii) the scope of automation and building up the library institution, iv) the construction of Korean old books Information systems, v) its case study, and vi) the evaluation and vision of system. The old document information system have been organized on the basis of library networks systems with the National Central Library as leader, its implemented system has the subsystem such as cataloging system, annotation system, full-text or image-based system, and retrieval system. In case study, it is suggested two examples which has been built in the National Central Library and Sung Kyun Kwan university. finally, it provides the evaluation criteria and vision for the library which designs the old document information systems.

  • This study was conducted to find out how the team organization works and to suggest better ways of applying the team system to a library organization. In this study, the survey was conducted to examine the characteristics of the university libraries that have adopted the team system, and the problems in operation were analysed. The findings indicate that staffs at the university libraries had a comparatively negative image of the team system, and that university library has provided insufficient training and less supports for their staffs in the process of adopting the system. This study might be applicable to any strategy which seeks to reduce bureaucracy, empower staff, create a team system culture. and enhance the delivery of high qualify services.

  • Microscope cell image is an important indicator for obtaining the biological information in a bio-informatics fields. Since human observers have been examining the cell image with microscope, a lot of time and high concentration are required to analyze cell images. Furthermore, It is difficult for the human eye to quantify objectively features in cell images. In this study, we developed HCS algorithm for automatic analysis of cell image using an OpenCV library. HCS algorithm contains the cell image preprocessing, cell counting, cell cycle and mitotic index analysis algorithm. We used human cancer cell (MKN-28) obtained by the confocal laser microscope for image analysis. We compare the value of cell counting to imageJ and to a professional observer to evaluate our algorithm performance. The experimental results showed that the average accuracy of our algorithm is 99.7%.
