  • This paper proposes a novel method for the recognition of the inverse synthetic aperture radar(ISAR) image of multiple targets flying in formation. Rather than separating the ISAR image of each target, the proposed method combines an ISAR image obtained by fusing the ISAR images in the training database. Fusion is conducted by optimizing the non-linear problem whose parameters are the aspect angle and the target location. Assuming that the aspect angle is properly estimated, the proposed method estimates the number of the targets and their locations by optimizing the template matching using PSO. In simulations using the F-16 scale model, the efficiency of the proposed method was demonstrated by yielding the ISAR image identical to that of targets in formation.

  • The usable output of glassware formation production line depends, among other factors, on the weight and shape of a lump of hot molten glass called a gob. In this paper, an automated image processing system for monitoring gob weight and shape on a production line is proposed. Present techniques often rely on manual weighing of gobs on a sample basis by manually controlling the gob feeder. The proposed automated image monitoring system checks the weight and shape of every free-falling gob before it reaches the mould. In this system, the estimated weight of the gob is sufficiently close to its actual weight.

  • Acquisition of precise information on drying characteristics of wood is indispensable for the improvement of drying schedules and wood quality. Recognition of the exact moisture content at which drying defects such as checks occur during drying with given drying conditions may be essential to reduce drying losses. In this study an image-processing system was combined with a laboratory-scale wood dry kiln for experiments and the surface of tree disk of black locust (Robinia pseudoacacia L.) was monitored to investigate the behavior of check formation over all the drying process. This system showed good potential for improving drying schedules and wood product quality.

  • Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR), which provides images of targets using radio signals, enables monitoring at all times regardless of weather conditions. In this paper, the SAR system was installed on the test aircraft to collect SAR raw data on the ground and the sea, and the results of image formation using the backprojection algorithm were presented.

  • This paper presents the theoretical derivaion relating and image correlationcoeffcient capable of assessing image quality, with phase-error variance in antenna aperture domain. We show that when the phase-error variance of a range bin selected as an adaptive beamformer is known, the quality of the reconstructed image is predictable and moreover, the resultant correlation coeffcient is obviously greater than the derive dlower boudn. To support the derivation, real data are used for image formation where the dominant scatterer algorithm (DSA) is applied for phase compensations.

  • As the information society is advanced, the needs for mass information storage and retrieval grows. Digital image information is stored in retrieval systems, broadcasting in television transmission and exchanged over several kinds of telecommunication media. A major problem is that digital images are represented with large amount of data. The useful feature of image compression is that transmitting rapidly a lot of data in less time. Therefore we proposed a parallel Fractal trans-formation unit in Fractal Image compression system.

  • This paper describes the method on image acquisition and image processing in the turning process. The formation of discontinuous chips during high-speed oblique cutting without lubricant was observed by means of video camera recorder and stroboscope. The image processing technique for chip flow is described and the results are presented for variable feeds. It is concluded that experimental values of chip flow angle are similar to theoretical values of Stabler's rule.

  • The purpose of this study is the image of clothing according to the change of the dots' size was analyzed and its influence on the formation of the image of polka dots clothing was investigated. White waterdrop patterns were designed on the 12 kinds of black texture using Photoshop and CAD program in regular arrangement of diamond figure, composed of white waterdrop(0.5cm, 1.0cm, 1.5cm and 2cm in diameter) and interval(diameter : interval-1 : 1, 1 : 2, 1 : 4). Applying above specification, the photograph stimulus of 12 kinds of X-line one-piece dress with wide square neckline and without sleeve or detailed ornament was presented on a screen in the same size as when putting it on. The image of polka dots clothes was investigated by questionnaire survey. The object of the study was 320 females aged between 16 and 29. Factor analysis, one-way ANOVA, $Scheff\acute{e}$ verification and two-way ANOVA using SPSS 10.0 were carried out for data analysis. Followings are the results: 1) The image of polka dots clothing consists of 4 factors as aesthetics, brevity, dynamism and lightweight. 2) The size of the dot has a great influence on the formation of the image of polka dots clothing. 3) The evaluations of the image of polka dots clothing were different depending on the age and physical image, the personal characteristics of the object of investigation.

  • In this paper, the image formation by the motion compensation technique for Synthetic Aperture Radar system(SAR) were realized through the computer simulation. The motion compensation technique performed image data with the range compression, the compensation procedure, the azimuth compensation and the noise elimination procedure. The range compression procedure transform the SAR raw data into the frequency domain and correlate with the range reference function and then inversely transform into the time domain. The compensation procedure contain the aircraft fluctuations compensation and the radar image degrading effect elimination procedure which was caused by image formation algorithm itself. The aircraft fluctuations compensation procedure perform the first stage which correct the phase angle and the second stage which calculate the Doppler frequency and determine the coordinate of the received signal. The radar image degrading effect elimination procedure also perform range migration compensation and the image defocussing effect compensation. The azimuth compression procedure transform the compensation data to the frequency domain and correlate with the azimuth reference function. The azimuth correlated data are inversely transformed to the time domain which is called SAR image data. When the above procedure were completed, the image data contains the received signals mixed with noise. The threshold technique was applied to elimination the noise from the mixed image data.
