  • Image segmentation is a process of partitioning of an image into different regions that have similar properties. It is an old and difficult problem. They have developed many image segmentation systems and have studied to evaluate the existing segmentation systems. However, evaluation of image segmentation systems is very difficult in nature. In this paper, we propose the evaluation criteria that evaluate image segmentation systems automatically. In order to overcome the drawbacks of using only a single evaluation criterion, we have incorporated four evaluation criteria, that is, boundary difference, boundary consistency, region uniformity, and region difference. As the experimental results show, our evaluation criteria performs very well.

  • Many sorts of image processing software facilitate image editing and also generate a great number of doctored images. Forensic technology emerges to detect the unintentional or malicious image operations. Most of forensic methods focus on the detection of single operations. However, a series of operations may be used to sequentially manipulate an image, which makes the operation detection problem complex. Forensic investigators always want to know as much exhaustive information about a suspicious image's entire processing history as possible. The detection of the operation chain, consisting of a series of operations, is a significant and challenging problem in the research field of forensics. In this paper, based on the histogram distribution uniformity of a manipulated image, we propose an operation chain detection scheme to identify histogram equalization (HE) followed by the dither-like operation (DLO). Two histogram features and a local spatial feature are utilized to further determine which DLO may have been applied. Both theoretical analysis and experimental results verify the effectiveness of our proposed scheme for both global and local scenarios.

  • In this paper, We studied the possibility of SoC(System On Chip) design using infrared image processing IP(Intellectual Property). And, we studied NUC(Non Uniformity Correction), BPR(Bad Pixel Recovery), and CEM(Contrast Enhancement) processing, the infrared image processing algorithm implemented by IP. We showed the logic and timing diagram implemented through the hardware block designed based on each algorithm. Each algorithm was coded as RTL(Register Transfer Level) using Verilog HDL(Hardware Description Language), ALTERA QUARTUS synthesis, and programed in FPGA(Field Programmable Gated Array). In addition, we have verified that the image data is processed at each algorithm without any problems by integrating the infrared image processing algorithm. Particularly, using the directly manufactured electronic board, Processor, SRAM, and FLASH are interconnected and tested and the verification result is presented so that the SoC type can be realized later. The infrared image processing IP proposed and verified in this study is expected to be of high value in the future SoC semiconductor fabrication. In addition, we have laid the basis for future application in the camera SoC industry.

  • Positron emission tomography (PET)/magnetic resonance (MR) scanning has the advantage of less additional exposure to radiation than does PET/computed tomography (CT). In particular, MR based attenuation correction (MR AC) can greatly affect the image quality of PET and is frequently obtained using various MR sequences. Thus, the purpose of the current study was to quantitatively compare the image quality between MR non-AC (MR NAC) and MR AC in PET images with three MR sequences. Percent image uniformity (PIU), percent contrast recovery (PCR), and percent background variability (PBV) were estimated to evaluate the quality of PET images with MR AC. Based on the results of PIU, 15.2% increase in the average quality was observed for PET images with MR AC than for PET images with MR NAC. In addition, 28.6% and 71.1% improvement in the average results of PCR and PBV respectively, was observed for PET images with MR AC compared with that with MR NAC. Moreover, no significant difference was observed among the average values using three MR sequences. In conclusion, the current study demonstrated that PET with MR AC improved the image quality and can be help diagnosis in all MR sequence cases.

  • In this paper, we implemented an image sensor module possible of detecting color temperature in an indoor environment. The color temperature information in the video information acquired by the image sensor was matched with a color difference illuminometer to produce an LUT. An algorithm was developed so that color temperature information according to the received RGB values can be automatically calculated. As a result of measuring the color temperature with an image sensor indoors, an accurate result of less than 5.91% was obtained compared to the reference value. It was confirmed that the uniformity of 23.5% or more was excellent compared to the color temperature measurement result using a color sensor.

  • Franchise restaurants in Korea are making efforts to improve service quality by developing and following service quality manuals to provide uniform services. This study was conducted to verify the fact that such efforts to provide uniform services would increase customer satisfaction and influence customers' decision to revisit. After setting up research models and hypotheses, the survey was conducted for 30 days from April 1 to 30, 2008 and a total of 279 copies were analyzed. The result of this study includes three findings. First, among the independent variables pertaining to the influence of uniform service quality on customer satisfaction, service uniformity, brand uniformity, and space arrangement uniformity were most influential. Also, among the brand image variables, service uniformity was most influential on customer satisfaction. Second, it was found that uniform service quality had positive influence on customers' behavioral intentions and that menu was the most influential factor. Third, it was found that higher customer satisfaction had greater influence on customers' behavioral intentions.

  • In this study, it was expected that long-term stability against external mechanical external force could be secured if the phosphor layer had ductility. In this study, a bendable $Gd_2O_2S:Tb$ sensitized paper was fabricated by screen printing method and the image uniformity was evaluated through RMS analysis and histogram analysis to investigate the effect of fatigue accumulation due to long-term external force and repetitive external force. As a result, the dominant pixel area is maintained constant and the relative standard deviation is less than 10% for the long-term external force. However, for the repetitive external force, the dominant pixel area is divided into three areas and the image uniformity is adversely affected. Based on these results, it is suggested that the curved surface detector can be applied by securing the mechanical stability against the existing radiation sensitized paper. However, further studies are needed to apply it to the flexible detector. As a result, flexible radiation sensitizers can be applied to various curved surfaces, and it is expected to be applicable to various fields such as nuclear medicine, medical treatment, and industrial fields in the future.

  • Images taken with KOMPSAT-3 have additional NIR and PAN bands, as well as RGB regions of the visible ray band, compared to imagestaken with a standard camera. Furthermore, electrical and optical properties must be considered because a wide radius area of approximately 17 km or more is photographed at an altitude of 685 km above the ground. In other words, the camera sensor of KOMPSAT-3 is distorted by each CCD pixel, characteristics of each band, sensitivity and time-dependent change, CCD geometry. In order to solve the distortion, correction of the sensors is essential. In this paper, we propose a method for detecting uniform regions in side-slider-based KOMPSAT-3 images using segment-based noise analysis. After detecting a uniform area with the corresponding algorithm, a correction table was created for each sensor to apply the non-uniformity correction algorithm, and satellite image correction was performed using the created correction table. As a result, the proposed method reduced the distortion of the satellite image, such as vertical noise, compared to the conventional method. The relative radiation accuracy index, which is an index based on mean square error (RA) and an index based on absolute error (RE), wasfound to have a comparative advantage of 0.3 percent and 0.15 percent, respectively, over the conventional method.

  • In the present work, the image processing technique for measurement of drop sizes has been improved. Firstly, the local processing concept was adopted in addition to the global processing technique to take account of non-uniformity of the illumination intensity ; thereby, basically, the measurement error can be reduced. Also, the unfocussed image of drops can be eliminated more precisely since the elimination process is based on the local normalized contrast. Secondly the algorithms to process the partially detected or overlapped drop images and the non-spherical drop images were developed. Finally, the improved algorithm was tested by using an artificially prepared image-frame, where the partial or overlapped particles and the non-spherical particles are mixed with the normal spherical ones (with their true size-distributions known a priori). The results showed that both the recognition rate of the number of particles and the measurement accuracy were improved prominently.

  • In the satellite camera, the incoming light source is converted to electronic analog signals by the electronic component for example CCD (Charge Coupled Device) detectors. The analog signals are amplified, biased and converted into digital signals (pixel data stream) in the video processor (A/Ds). The outputs of the A/Ds are digitally multiplexed and driven out using differential line drivers (two pairs of wires) for cross strap requirement. The MSC (Multi-Spectral Camera) in the KOMPSAT-2 which is a LEO spacecraft will be used to generate observation imagery data in two main channels. The MSC is to obtain data for high-resolution images by converting incoming light from the earth into digital stream of pixel data. The video data outputs are then MUXd, converted to 8 bit bytes, serialized and transmitted to the NUC (Non-Uniformity Correction) module by the Hotlink data transmitter. In this paper, the video data streams, the video data format, and the image data processing routine for satellite camera are described in terms of satellite camera control hardware. The advanced satellite with very high resolution requires faster and more complex image data chain than this algorithm. So, the effective change of the used image data chain and the fast video data transmission method are discussed in this paper
