Detection of the Damaged Trees by Pine Wilt Disease Using IKONOS Image

  • The purpose of this study is to detect the damaged red pine trees by pine wilt disease using high resolution satellite image of IKONOS Geo. IKONOS images are segmented with eCognition image processing software. A segment based maximum likelihood classification was performed to delineate the pine stand. The pine stands are regarded as a potential damage area. In order to develop a methodology to detect the location of damaged trees from the high resolution satellite image, black and white aerial photographs were used as a simulated image. The developed method based on filtering technique. A local maximum filter was adapted to detect the location of individual tree. This report presents a part of the first year results of an ongoing project.

Local damage detection of a fan blade under ambient excitation by three-dimensional digital image correlation

  • Damage detection based on dynamic characteristics of a structure is one of important roles in structural damage identification. It is difficult to detect local structural damage using traditional dynamic experimental methods due to a limited number of sensors used in an experiment. In this work, a non-contact test stand of fan blades is established, and a full-field noncontact test method, combined with three-dimensional digital image correlation, Bayesian operational modal analysis, and damage indices, is used to detect local damage of a fan blade under ambient excitation without use of baseline information before structural damage. The methodology is applied to detect invisible local damage on the fan blade. Such a method has a seemingly high potential as an alternative to detect local damage of blades with complex high-precision surfaces under extreme working conditions because it is a noncontact test method and can be used under ambient excitation without human participation.

Detection of Surface Defects in Eggs Using Computer Vision (컴퓨터 시각을 이용한 계란 표면의 결함 검출)

  • A computer vision system was built to generate images of a stationary egg. This system includes a. CCD camera, a frame grabber, and an incandescent back lighting system An image processing algorithm was developed to accurately detect surface holes and surface cracks on eggs. With 20W of incandescent back light, the detection rate was shown to be the highest. The Sobel operator was found to be the best among various enhancing filters examined. The threshold value to distinguish between the crack and the translucent spots was found to be linear with the average gray level of a whole egg image. Those values of both gray level and area were used as criteria to detect holes in egg and those values of both area and roundness were used to detect cracks in egg. For a sample of 300 eggs, this system was able to correctly analyze an egg for the presence of a defect 97.5% of the time. On the average, it took 59.5 seconds to analyze an egg image and determine whether or not it was defected.

  • Writable Cholesteric Liquid Crystal Display and the algorithm used to detect its image were developed. We could use any hard tip, ex: the tip of a forefinger, to directly write an image on the surface of Cholesteric Liquid Crystal Display (CHLCD). By measuring the capacitance of one pixel of test cell (12mm x 15mm/1x1), F-state or P-state could be detected. By measuring the capacitance of one pixel of 4.1" CHLCD (241um x 241um/ 320x320), F-state or Pstate could not be detected, due to the effect of parasitic capacitance. Therefore, high frequency measurement and the algorithm were developed to detect the image on CHLCD.

  • In this paper, we propose a describes how to detect a false iris image by inserting watermark into a iris image. The existing method, which inserts the watermark into the entire iris image to detect a fake iris, has a problem that can evade it by segmenting iris region of an iris image. The purpose of overcoming the problem, this paper proposes a new fake iris detection technique based on digital watermark. It first searches a central point of an iris image, divide the image into blocks with respect to the point. executes Discrete Cosine Transform, inserts watermark into the blocks, and then verifies an iris image using NC(Normalized Correlation). In the experiments, we confirm the robustness for attacks - crop and JPEG.

  • Security system with web camera remarkably has been developed at an Internet era. Using transmitted images from remote camera, the system can recognize current situation and take a proper action through web. Existing motion detection methods use simply difference image, background image techniques or block matching algorithm which establish initial block by set search area and find similar block. But these methods are difficult to detect exact motion because of useless noise. In this paper, the proposed method is updating changed background image as much as $N{\times}M$pixel mask as time goes on after get a difference between imput image and first background image. And checking image pixel can efficiently detect motion by computing fixed distance pixel instead of operate all pixel.

A Robust Crack Filter Based on Local Gray Level Variation and Multiscale Analysis for Automatic Crack Detection in X-ray Images

  • Internal cracks in products are invisible and can lead to fatal crashes or damage. Since X-rays can penetrate materials and be attenuated according to the material’s thickness and density, they have rapidly become the accepted technology for non-destructive inspection of internal cracks. This paper presents a robust crack filter based on local gray level variation and multiscale analysis for automatic detection of cracks in X-ray images. The proposed filter takes advantage of the image gray level and its local variations to detect cracks in the X-ray image. To overcome the problems of image noise and the non-uniform intensity of the X-ray image, a new method of estimating the local gray level variation is proposed in this paper. In order to detect various sizes of crack, this paper proposes using different neighboring distances to construct an image pyramid for multiscale analysis. By use of local gray level variation and multiscale analysis, the proposed crack filter is able to detect cracks of various sizes in X-ray images while contending with the problems of noise and non-uniform intensity. Experimental results show that the proposed crack filter outperforms the Gaussian model based crack filter and the LBP model based method in terms of detection accuracy, false detection ratio and processing speed.

  • This paper suggests a high-speed blurred blob image inspection algorithm. When we inspect some products using high-resolution camera, the detected blob images usually have severe blur. And the blur makes it hard to detect an object. There are many blur-processing algorithms, but most of them have no real-time property for high-speed applications at all. In this paper, an MMX technology based algorithm is suggested. The suggested algorithm was found to be effective to detect the blurred blob images via many simulations and long time real-plant experiments.

  • Deterioration of pavements or tunnels primarily from the existence of voids under the pavements or tunnel linings. To detect these voids effectively by non-destructive testes, a method using radar was proposed. In this research, the detection of shape of voids by radar image processing is investigate. The experiments and simulation were conducted to detect voids in or under concrete pavements for tunnel linings) with reinforcing bars. From the results, the fundamental algorithm for tracing the voids, improving the horizontal resolution of the object image and detecting shape of objects, was verified.

  • The purpose of this study was to aid in the use of the digital images by edge-detect interpolation for direct digital periapical images using edge-detect interpolation. This study was performed by image processing of 20 digital periapical images; pixel replication, linear non-interpolation, linear interpolation. and edge-sensitive interpolation. The obtained results were as follows : 1. Pixel replication showed blocking artifact and serious image distortion. 2. Linear interpolation showed smoothing effect on the edge. 3. Edge-sensitive interpolation overcame the smoothing effect on the edge and showed better image.
