  • Specialty barley extracts were prepared and investigated for its antioxidant activity and biological activity. Hunter $L^*$ values of the Iksan 86 extracts had higher than that of the Iksan 87 and Zasoojeongchal extracts. The extraction yields of Iksan 86, Iksan 87, and Zasoojeongchal was 8.08, 6.62, and 7.30%, respectively. The contents of total phenolic compounds of the Iksan 86, Iksan 87, and Zasoojeongchal extracts were 16.24, 15.51, and 13.95 GAE mg/g of sample, respectively. The DPPH radical scavenging activity of Iksan 86, Iksan 87, and Zasoojeongchal extracts were 50.00, 33.27, and 7.56% at a 500 ppm, respectively. The samples showed an inhibition of xanthin oxidase. ACE inhibition effect of specialty barley extracts, Iksan 86, Iksan 87, and Zasoojeongchal, was 39.81, 41.06, and 27.78%, respectively. Tyrosinase inhibition rates (%) of Iksan 86, Iksan 87, and Zasoojeongchal extracts were 26.21, 24.57, and 20.00%, respectively. Results indicated that specialty barley extracts possesses various biological activities including antioxidative capacity, xanthin oxidase inhibition activity, angiotensin converting enzyme inhibition activity, and tyrosinase inhibition activity.

  • This study aims to develop motifs and patterns for fashion cultural product designs in order to promote the Iksan Seodong Festival, which is the most representative festival in Iksan region. The motifs and patterns developed in this study can be used to introduce the distinct traditional culture depicting the legendary Seodong tale. This study used Adobe Illustrator CS4 and Adobe Photoshop CS4 to reconstruct the lotus motifs found from the green-oiled-lotus-motif rafter tile, the atrifact from Iksan Mireuksaji Museum. This lotus motif and the motif based on the Iksan City's logo were applied to a repeating pattern with colorways using the CMYK found from the Iksan city's logo. A total of 24 product designs, including 8 necktie designs, 8 scarf designs, and 8 T-shirts designs, were presented for fashion cultural products. The designs developed in this study can promote not only the local Iksan culture but also the national image of Korea on a global scale.

  • In this article, I examine the transformation of the Iksan Royal Palace into a temple. And it was considered to mean a change in the way Iksan was managed by Baekje. The Iksan Royal Palace was converted into a temple between the establishment of Mireuksa Temple and Stone Pagoda. As a result, the transfer of the capital to Iksan was not achieved, and Iksan was transformed into a temple-centered city. In connection with this, the need to re-establishment the urban system in Sabi was increased, as it suffered a great flood in the Muwang era. As a result, the scope of the royal palace was expanded, the secondary palace was built, and the urban district was expanded throughout the capital city. It is presumed that King Mu gave a divine nature to Iksan and discriminated against Sabi. Accordingly, it is believed that the King Mu or King Uija stopped developing the city in Iksan and focused on the rearrangement of Sabi.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the seroprevalence of infection with the production-limiting diseases in dairy cattle in Jeonbuk-Iksan area. The blood samples were collected from 260 dairy cows in 52 herds, and examined. The antibody rates against N caninum, M paratuberculosis, and bovine leukemia virus were 34.6%, 13.5% and 89.6%, respectively. All samples for bovine brucellosis were negative.

  • The aim of this study is to develop fashion cultural product designs in order to promote the Iksan region by using motifs from the Mireuksaji, Iksan's most representative archeological site of Baekje culture. The fashion cultural products designs developed by applying cultural resources can be effective at enhancing our cultural identity. Adobe Illustrator CS4 and Adobe Photoshop CS4 were used to reconstruct motifs from the Sumakse tiles and the bronze horse figure in the Mireuksaji Museum. The Iksan brand slogan "Amazing Iksan" was combined with the bronze horse to emphasize the local cultural identity. The motifs from the Mireuksaji were modified and stylized to make different patterns and these patterns were repeated in various ways to be applied to necktie and scarf designs. The motifs for necktie designs were double-row chrysanthemum tiles and phoenix tiles, and the motifs for scarf designs were the double-row lotus tiles and the bronze horse artifacts. Different colorways were chosen and the value of each color was displayed in the CMYK percentages. As a result, eight necktie designs and twelve scarf designs were proposed. The motifs and patterns developed in this study can be used to introduce Iksan's distinct history as the birthplace of Baekje culture. It is also expected that the result of this study can advance the promotion of Korean traditional culture internationally.

  • The present studies was to seroepidemiological investigation with the related pneumonia due to a combination of both viral and bacterial agents. In selected herd in Jeonbuk-Iksan area of swine farms in 2006. The seroprevalence of antibody titers of PRRS, PCV-2 and mycoplasmal pneumonia were 87.2%, 69.8% and 47.4%, respectively. High seroprevalence of antibody in sow indicate that the infected sow major source of the diseases, and play an important role in circulation between production stage.

  • Fracture stabilization techniques continue to evolve and provide approaches that minimize the iatrogenic trauma associated with surgical procedures. Minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis (MIPO) is a recently described method of biological internal fixation performed by introducing a bone plate via small insertional incisions that are remote to the fracture site. Indirect reduction techniques can generally be utilized when performing MIPO. In this case report, we describe MIPO of a radius-ulna fracture by indirect reduction using circular external fixation for alignment and distraction in a dog.

  • In order to monitor the parasites, 204 fecal samples were taken from Korean indigenous goats of Iksan-branch. Then identification of the parasites was determined by the fecal examination using the floatation and microscopical examination, respectively. The detection of rates was $91.2\%$, and mixed infection rates were single $38.7\%,\;double\;28.4\%,\;triple\;15.2\%,\;Quadraple\;6.9\%\;and\;Qunituple\;20.0\%$. The isolated were identified as Eimeria spp from 169 heads, Strongyloides papillosus from 56 heads, Ostertagia spp from 24 heads, Trichostrongylus spp from 22 heads, Moniezia expensa from 18 heads, Oesophagostomum spp from 17 heads, Bonostomum spp from 12 heads, Cooperia spp from 12 heads, Heamonchus spp from 8 heads and Capillaria spp from 2 heads.
