  • A vertical test stand based on launcher propulsion system was constructed and several tests for the determination of cyclogram were carried out. To make an accurate estimation, static and dynamic pressures were measured and analyzed. Especially, static pressure measurements using fast response sensors without extension tubes were used to determine operation sequence more evidently. The standard operation times of final valves were determined in cold flow tests with an engine head, and fire formation time in combustion chamber was checked in an ignition test with an ignitor only. On the basis of these tests, ignition sequence was established and combustion test cyclogram was finally determined. According to combustion test, test results were well matched with the determined cyclogram within 0.05 sec.

  • Purpose: To identify internal self ignition and ignition caused by external flames in energy storage rooms, and to analyze the difference between ignition due to overheating and ignition caused by external heat sources. Method: membrane melting point measurement, battery external hydrothermal experiment, battery overcharge experiment, comparative analysis of electrode plate during combustion by overcharge and external heat, overcharge combustion characteristics, external hydrothermal fire combustion characteristics, 3.4 (electrode plate comparison) / 3.5 (overcharge) /3.6 (external sequence) analysis experiment. Result: Since the temperature difference was very different depending on the position of the sensor until the fire occurred, it is judged that two temperature sensors per module are not enough to prevent the fire through temperature control in advance. Conclusion: The short circuit acts as an ignition source and ignites the mixed gas, causing a gas explosion. The electrode breaks finely due to the explosion pressure, and the powder-like lithium oxide is sparked like a firecracker by the flame reaction.

  • Ignition characteristics of combustion chamber with LOx lead cyclogram for liquid rocket engine were described. The combustion chamber has chamber pressure of 60 bar, propellant mass flow rate of 89 kg/s, and nozzle expansion of 12. Cold flow test to determine the filling time of propellant for cyclogram with LOx lead supply, ignition test to check the ability to ignite starting fuel from the ignitor, low pressure combustion test to check the propagation of flame into main fuel-oxidizer mixture from starting fuel and the main combustion stage, and design point combustion test to check the combustion performance were performed. Ignition and combustion tests with LOx lead supply were successfully performed and the stable cyclogram of start sequence for combustion chamber was developed.

  • The present study has numerically investigates the vaporization, auto-ignition and combustion processes in the high-pressure and high-temperature conditions encountered in the diesel engine. In the present study, in order to understand the overall spray combustion characteristics of DME fuel as well as to identify the distinctive differences of DME combustion processes compared to conventional hydrocarbon liquid fuels, the sequence of the comparative analysis has been systematically made for DME and n-Heptane liquid fuels. Computations for DME fuel are made for two cases including constant fuel mass flow rate condition and fixed heat release rate. Based on numerical results, the discussions are made for the detailed combustion processes of DME and n-Heptane spray.

  • In darkroom condition, it was observed that a white picture pattern lasted several minutes leaves a recognizable trace in subsequent black background picture. Although this is not a serious problem for the most current public display or home TV applications, the image sticking should be minimized for future high quality multimedia display applications. In order to characterize this picture memory effect having relatively long time scale, spatially resolved luminance measurement and light waveform measurement have been performed. Pixels located at the outer boundary of white pattern previously displayed shows highest luminance. These cells also shows fastest ignition at the ramp up reset sequence. The luminance and ignition voltage differences between boundary cells and the other cells are increased with display duration and number of sustain-pulse. It is speculated that image sticking observed at the boundary cell is originated from the transport of charged particles and re-deposition of reactive species such as Mg, O provided from strong sustain discharge region.

  • One of main functions of the firing control system applied to a rocket propulsion test has been to provide electric current for ignition of a solid rocket motor. This paper describes the design and implementation of an enhanced firing control system for ground propulsion test that can also control and verify various types of squib events and flight sequences.

  • One dimensional transient analysis was studied for turbopump-fed liquid propellant rocket engine(LRE) system in starting using AMESim. The effects of timing of gas generator fuel valve opening and gas generator ignition to start-up stability were researched for open cycle type system using LOX/RP-1 to propellants. Result show that the parameters and sequence on start-up should be considered to design optimized turbopump-fed LRE system.

To realistically represent the physical processes involved in the spray combustion, this studyemploys the hybrid breakup model, the stochastic droplet tracking model, collision model, high-pressure evaporation model, and transient flamelet model with detailed chemistry. Based on numerical results, the detailed discussions are made in terms of the autoignition, spray combustion processes, flame structure, and turbulence-chemistry interaction in the n-heptane and DME fueled spray combustion processes.

  • Graphene has attracted much attention due to its remarkable physical properties and potential applications in many fields. In special, the electronic properties of graphene are influenced by the number of layer, stacking sequence, edge state, and doping of foreign elements. Recently, many efforts have been dedicated to alter the electronic properties by doping of various species, such as hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, ammonia and etc. Here, we report our recent results of plasma doping on graphene. We prepared mechanically exfoliated graphene, and performed the plasma treatment using ammonia gas for nitrogen doping. The direct-current plasma system was used for plasma ignition. The doping level was estimated from the number of peak shift of G-band in Raman spectra. The upshift of G-band was observed after ammonia plasma treatment, which implies electron doping to graphene.

  • This paper covers the result of construction and start-up tests of the KSLV(Korea Space Launch Vehicle)-II combustion chamber hot-firing test facility. This facility was constructed from 2012 to 2014. Start-up test of this facility began in the second half of 2014. Oxidizer cold flow test, fuel cold flow test and cooling water cold flow test were carried out as start-up test. Afterward, ignition test of combustion chamber was accomplished. The result of ignition test is applied to set up start-up sequence of KSLV-II combustion chamber and utilized as base line data for hot-firing test of low and normal design point.
