State Estimation Technique for VRLA Batteries for Automotive Applications

  • The state-of-charge (SOC) and state-of-health (SOH) estimation of batteries play important roles in managing batteries for automotive applications. However, an accurate state estimation of a battery is difficult to achieve because of certain factors, such as measurement noise, highly nonlinear characteristics, strong hysteresis phenomenon, and diffusion effect of batteries. In certain vehicular applications, such as idle stop-start systems (ISSs), significant errors in SOC/SOH estimation may lead to a failure in restarting a combustion engine after the shut-off period of the engine when the vehicle is at rest, such as at a traffic light. In this paper, a dual extended Kalman filter algorithm with a dynamic equivalent circuit model of a lead-acid battery is proposed to deal with this problem. The proposed algorithm adopts a battery model by taking into account the hysteresis phenomenon, diffusion effect, and parameter variations for accurate state estimations of the battery. The validity of the proposed algorithm is verified through experiments by using an absorbed glass mat valve-regulated lead-acid battery and a battery sensor cable for commercial ISS vehicles.

  • In this paper, we propose a lot-sizing and scheduling problem that seeks to minimize the sum of production cost and inventory cost over a given planning horizon while considering idle state of a machine in a batch production system. For this problem, we develop an integer programming model. And, we develop an efficient 2-phase heuristic algorithm to find a high quality feasible solution within reasonable time bounds. In the first phase, we seek to minimize the production cost by assigning batches to machines. Then, in the second phase, we find a production sequence of batches that reduces the inventory cost, while considering adding or deleting idle states between batches. Computational results show that the developed heuristic algorithm finds excellent feasible solutions within reasonable time bounds. Also, we could significantly reduce the total cost consisting of production cost and inventory cost by using the developed heuristic algorithm at a real manufacturing system that produces zinc alloys.

ECU 및 TCU 신호를 이용한 자동차의 공회전 자동정지 제어 시스템 개발 (Development of Automatic Idle Stop Control System with Signals of ECU and TCU)

  • 본 연구에서는 자동차가 정지하면 지정된 수초이내에 자동차의 공회전 상태를 자동적으로 정지시키고, 운전자가 출발하고자 할 때는 약속된 전기신호로 엔진의 시동을 거는 차량용 공회전 자동정지 제어시스템을 개발하였다. 이 장치는 다수의 선별된 엔진제어유닛과 변속기제어유닛의 전기신호를 입력신호로 하는 마이크로프로세서와 기타 주변 전자회로로 구성되어 있으며 자동차의 운전상태를 인식할 뿐 아니라 냉각수 온도에 따라 그 작동을 조정하고 재시동시 연료분사스킵 기법을 적용하여 자동차의 연료절약 및 유해배출가스를 저감하는 효과를 가지고 있다. 국내의 자동차 연비 및 유해배출가스측정 공인기관에서 ECE15+EUDC모드에서 본 제어시스템 장착차량의 주행시험을 실시하여 그 효과를 확인하였고 실차 적용가능성을 확보하였다.

  • This paper describes dynamic engine model that is appricable to idle speed control system development. A basic linear engine model responds to throttle and load torque Inputs to provide manifold pressure and speed outputs. Transfer functions are then derived for the modified linear engine model and significant dynamic characteristics are discussed. Lastly, the strategy for controlling idle speed uses the linear optimal control theory. The linear optimal regulator was designed using a state variable and the performance Index was minimized.

  • Volunteer Computing은 대규모 프로젝트를 많은 분산된 데스크탑, 랩탑 PC, 그리고 스마트 폰과 같은 모바일 디바이스의 idle(유휴 상태)인 컴퓨팅 자원을 기여(Volunteer)받아 수행하는 환경이다. 그러나 기여된 컴퓨팅 자원이 idle과 used(사용 상태) 간의 상태전이가 빈번히 일어나거나, idle로 지속되는 시간이 짧은 자원의 경우, 프로젝트를 수행하는데 비효율적이다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 이러한 자원을 구분하고, 해당 자원의 다음 상태전이확률테이블을 계산하여 결과에 따라 해당 자원에 적합한 작업을 할당하는 방법을 제안한다.

대구지역 디젤하이브리드 버스의 실도로 주행 성능 분석 (On-Road Driving Performance Analysis of Diesel-Hybrid Bus in Daegu Metropolitan Area)

  • In this study we analyzed the on-road driving performance of two parallel-type diesel-hybrid buses which have been driven in Daegu metropolitan area. A real-time on-board data logger was facilitated to measure the vehicle information such as vehicle speed, idle stop, state of charge of battery, and engine operating conditions. These diesel-hybrid buses ran as a commuter at Daegu Exco area and Dalsung industrial complex. The driving pattern in Exco area comprised more frequent idle stop and relatively lower speed than at Dalsung area, where comprised no idle stop. Due to those different driving patterns, the fuel economy at Dalsung showed $3.7\;km/{\ell}$, which is about 8% higher than that of Exco. The main causes of this come from the higher portion of regenerative braking and higher speed which moves to the operating points of diesel engine with a lower fuel consumption.

유휴농지 농업적 활용 평가지표 설정 및 현장적용 (Establishing Evaluation Indicator for Agricultural Utilization of Idle Farmlands and Field Application)

  • Self-sufficiency rate of food in South Korea is almost at the lowest level among OECD countries, and the decrease tend of farmland is expected to be continued. In this situation, the government has been revised the target self-sufficiency rate of food, and carried forward various policies in order to achieve it. One of those policies is the restoration business of idle farmland which is planned to carry forward after 2015. This study set up indicators evaluating effective use of idle farmland, and tried to apply in the field before carrying forward restoration business. The result of this study may be summarized as follows. First of all, it reset an evaluation indicator that was based on the evaluation indicator developed in order to set application directions of idle farmland. Next, it selected 30 idle farmlands with reset evaluation indicator among 11,635 which were inspected nationwide in 2012. Before applying indicator, it measured the condition of recycling such as accessibility of farmland, condition of irrigation and drainage system, land state, and surroundings by field investigation. Then, it calculated composite score in each target area through applying indicators, and verified the indicator by comparing calculated result with the one which was decided from field investigation. Finally, it carried out field investigation, correct and upgrade some problems of the standard of score calculation that was found during applying previously set evaluation indicator to target area, and established the final standard of calculation for evaluation indicator.

  • 백스케터 신호는 신호의 세기가 미약하여 신호 간섭과 채널 영향에 큰 영향을 받는다. 본 논문에서는 백스케터 통신을 위한 주파수 대역을 찾는 인지 무선 통신 시스템 기반의 이중 알고리즘을 제안한다. 이중 알고리즘은 유휴 채널과 에너지 효율에 대한 정보와 주파수 채널의 상태를 파악하여 최적의 주파수 채널을 제공한다. 시뮬레이션 결과를 통해 본 논문에서 제안한 알고리즘을 적용한 백스케터 통신의 성능을 확인하고, 백스케터 통신에서 제안한 알고리즘의 성능향상을 입증한다.

합성가스를 이용한 SI 엔진의 공회전 유해 배기가스 저감에 관한 실험적 연구 (An Experimental Study on Reductions of Idle Emissions with the Syngas Assist in an SI Engine)

  • Fuel reforming technology for the fuel cell vehicles could be applied to internal combustion engine for the reduction of engine out emissions. Since syngas which is reformed from fossil fuel has hydrogen as a major component, it has abilities to enhance the combustion characteristics with wide flammability and high speed flame propagation. In this study, syngas was added to a gasoline engine to improve combustion stability and exhaust emissions of idle state. Syngas fraction is varied to 0%, 50%, 100% with various ignition timing and excess air ratio. Combustion stability, exhaust emissions, fuel consumption and exhaust gas temperature were measured to investigate the effects of syngas addition on idle performance. Results showed that syngas has ability to widely extend lean operation limit and ignition retard range with dramatical reduction of engine out emissions.

냉간압연 다단 압연기의 롤 슬립 모델링 및 상태 관측기 설계 (Modeling and State Observer Design for Roll Slip in Cold Cluster Mills)

  • 이 논문은 냉간 압연공정의 다단 압연기에서 각 롤 간의 슬립 현상에 대한 상태공간 모델을 도출하고, 이를 이용하여 롤 간 슬립 상태 관측기 설계에 관한 연구를 수행한다. 먼저 뉴튼의 운동법칙을 이용하여 각 롤들의 회전 운동 방정식을 1계 비선형 미분 방정식으로 기술한 후, 테일러 급수를 이용하여 임의의 동작점에서 상태공간 방정식으로 선형화한다. 다음에는 선형화된 상태공간 방정식에 기초하여 Gopinath 구성법으로 측정 가능한 구동 롤을 제외한 종동 롤의 회전 각속도를 추정하는 최소차원 상태 관측기를 설계한다. 마지막으로 컴퓨터 시뮬레이션을 통하여 상태 관측기로부터 추정된 각 롤 회전각속도와 슬립률의 유용성을 고찰한다.
