In this paper, identification of isotropic and orthotropic linear elastic material constitutive parameters has been demonstrated by a FEA-free energy-based inverse analysis method. An important feature of the proposed method is that it requires no finite element (FE) simulation of the tested material. Full-field displacements calculated using digital image correlation (DIC) are used to compute DIC stress fields enforcing the equilibrium condition and DIC strain fields using interpolation functions. Boundary tractions and displacements are implicitly recast into an objective function that measures the energy residual of external work and internal elastic strain energy. The energy conservation principle states that the residual should be zero, and so minimizing this objective function inversely identifies the constitutive parameters. Synthetic data from simulated testing of isotropic materials and orthotropic composite materials under 2D plane stress conditions are used for verification of the proposed method. When identifying the constitutive parameters, it is beneficial to apply loadings in multiple directions, and in ways that create non-uniform stress distributions. The sensitivity of the parameter identification method to noise in both the measured full-field DIC displacements and loadings has been investigated.
Traditionally, it is not easy to carry out tests to identify modal parameters from existing railway bridges because of the testing conditions and complicated nature of civil structures. A six year (2007-2012) research program was conducted to monitor a group of 25 railway bridges. One of the tasks was to devise guidelines for identifying their modal parameters. This paper presents the experience acquired from such identification. The modal analysis of four representative bridges of this group is reported, which include B5, B15, B20 and B58A, crossing the Caraj$\acute{a}$s railway in northern Brazil using three different excitations sources: drop weight, free vibration after train passage, and ambient conditions. To extract the dynamic parameters from the recorded data, Stochastic Subspace Identification and Frequency Domain Decomposition methods were used. Finite-element models were constructed to facilitate the dynamic measurements. The results show good agreement between the measured and computed natural frequencies and mode shapes. The findings provide some guidelines on methods of excitation, record length of time, methods of modal analysis including the use of projected channel and harmonic detection, helping researchers and maintenance teams obtain good dynamic characteristics from measurement data.
Structural damage and moving load identification are the two aspects of structural system identification. However, they universally coexist in the damaged structures subject to unknown moving load. This paper proposed a dynamic response sensitivity-based model updating method to simultaneously identify the structural damage and moving force. The moving force which is equivalent as the nodal force of the structure can be expressed as a series of orthogonal polynomial. Based on the system Markov parameters by the state space method, the dynamic response and the dynamic response derivatives with respect to the force parameters and elemental variations are analytically derived. Afterwards, the damage and force parameters are obtained by minimizing the difference between measured and analytical response in the sensitivity-based updating procedure. A numerical example for a simply supported beam under the moving load is employed to verify the accuracy of the proposed method.

Viscoelastic damping materials are widely used to reduce noise and vibration because of its low cost and easy implementation, for examples, on the body structure of passenger cars, air planes, electric appliances and ships. To design the damped structures, the material property such as elastic modulus and loss factor is essential information. The four-parameter fractional derivative model well describes the dynamic characteristics of the viscoelastic damping materials with respect to both frequency and temperature. However, the identification procedure of the four-parameter is very time-consuming one. In this study a new identification procedure of the four-parameters is proposed by using an FE model and a gradient-based numerical search algorithm. The identification procedure goes two sequential steps to make measured frequency response functions(FRF) coincident with simulated FRFs: the first one is a peak alignment step and the second one is an amplitude adjustment step. A numerical example shows that the proposed method is useful in identifying the viscoelastic material parameters of fractional derivative model.

In this paper, the optimization of fuzzy inference systems is proposed for fuzzy model of nonlinear systems. A fuzzy model needs to be identified and optimized by means of the definite and systematic methods, because a fuzzy model is primarily acquired by expert's experience. The proposed rule-based fuzzy model implements system structure and parameter identification using the HCM(Hard C-mean) clustering method, genetic algorithms and fuzzy inference method. Two types of inference methods of a fuzzy model are the simplified inference and linear inference. in this paper, nonlinear systems are expressed using the identification of structure such as input variables and the division of fuzzy input subspaces, and the identification of parameters of a fuzzy model. To identify premise parameters of fuzzy model, the genetic algorithms is used and the standard least square method with the gaussian elimination method is utilized for the identification of optimum consequence parameters of fuzzy model. Also, the performance index with weighting factor is proposed to achieve a balance between the performance results of fuzzy model produced for the training and testing data set, and it leads to enhance approximation and predictive performance of fuzzy system. Time series data for gas furnace and sewage treatment process are used to evaluate the performance of the proposed model.

A feasibility of using the topology optimization method for structural damage identification is investigated for the first time. The frequency response functions (FRFs) are assumed to be constructed by the finite element models of damaged and undamaged structures. In addition to commonly used resonances, antiresonances are employed as the damage identifying modal parameters. For the topology optimization formulation, the modal parameters of the undamaged structure are made to approach those of the damaged structure by means of the constraint equations, while the objective function is an explicit penalty function requiring clear black-and-white images. The developed formulation is especially suitable for damage identification problems dealing with many modal parameters. Although relatively simple numerical problems were considered in this investigation, the possibility of using the topology optimization method for structural damage identification is suggested through this research.
With the growing demand for metallic dampers in engineering practice, it is urgent to establish a reasonable approach to evaluating the mechanical performance of metallic dampers under seismic excitations. This paper introduces an effective method for parameter identification of the modified Bouc-Wen model and its application to evaluating the fatigue performance of metallic dampers (MDs). The modified Bouc-Wen model which eliminates the redundant parameter is used to describe the hysteresis behavior of MDs. Relations between the parameters of the modified Bouc-Wen model and the mechanical performance parameters of MDs are studied first. A modified Genetic Algorithm using real-integer hybrid coding with relative fitness as well as adaptive crossover and mutation rates (called RFAGA) is then proposed to identify the parameters of the modified Bouc-Wen model. A reliable approach to evaluating the fatigue performance of the MDs with respect to the Chinese Code for Seismic Design of Buildings (GB 50011-2010) is finally proposed based on the research results. Experimental data are employed to demonstrate the process and verify the effectiveness of the proposed approach. It is shown that the RFAGA is able to converge quickly in the identification process, and the simulation curves based on the identification results fit well with the experimental hysteresis curves. Furthermore, the proposed approach is shown to be a useful tool for evaluating the fatigue performance of MDs with respect to the Chinese Code for Seismic Design of Buildings (GB 50011-2010).
In this paper we present methodology for parameters identification of constitutive model which is able to present behavior of a connection between two members in a structure. Such a constitutive model for frame connections can be cast in the most general form of the Timoshenko beam, which can present three failure modes. The first failure mode pertains to the bending in connection, which is defined as coupled plasticity-damage model with nonlinear softening. The second failure mode is seeking to capture the shearing of connection, which is defined as plasticity with linear hardening and nonlinear softening. The third failure mode pertains to the diffuse failure in the members; excluding it leads to linear elastic constitutive law. Theoretical formulation of this Timoshenko beam model and its finite element implementation are presented in the second section. The parameter identification procedure that will allow us to define eighteen unknown parameters is given in Section 3. The proposed methodology splits identification in three phases, with all details presented in Section 4 through three different examples. We also present the real experimental results. The conclusions are stated in the last section of the paper.
An estimation scheme is used for solving two practical problems of the single current sensor technique. To improve the effect of parameter uncertainties the method that identifies motor parameters for AC motor drive systems using the single current sensor technique is presented. And the parameter identification error and its cause atre examined. It gives good performances for identify in parameters and reconstructing phase currents.
In this paper we describe a new method for multimodal function optimization using genetic algorithms(GAs). We propose adaptation rules for GA parameters such as population size, crossover probability and mutation probability. In the self organizing genetic algorithm(SOGA), SOGA parameters change according to the adaptation rules. Thus, we do not have to set the parameters manually. We discuss about SOGA and those of other approaches for adapting operator probabilities in GAs. The validity of the proposed algorithm will be verified in a simulation example of system identification.
