  • Comparing with bar-code systems, RFID systems can supply more efficient work. Using RFID systems, logistic management systems could be helped effectively to gather real-time information. It's available to reduce the working time and object's delay time, and to deal with real-time information by using RFID system. Until now, based on how many pallets used, there is few study about best workload of RFID system. Therefore, in this study, both bar-code and RFID system simulations were executed for inspection process in distribution center. As a result, following the ware pallet quantity, the total cost of both working time and other delay times were calculated and the sensitivity analysis of total cost trend was executed.

  • In-planned duration and cost at project closing are the two of criteria of successful project and successful project management. In Vietnam, regularly, construction projects are delayed and their costs are overrun. This research employed a questionnaire survey to elicit the causes of this situation by interviewing 87 Vietnamese construction experts. After processing data, 21 causes of delay and cost overruns appropriate with building and industrial project in construction stage were inferred and ranked. Spearman's rank correlation tests showed that there're no differences in the viewpoints between parties in project.

  • Stakeholders of a construction project expect cost savings through fast and accurate cost analysis by performing BIM-based quantity take-off (BQT). However, authors have observed that there can be discrepancies in the results of BQT depending on the level of development (LOD) and modeling methods. In addition, since quantity take-off methods are different depending on the construction work items, the combination of LOD, modeling methods of BIM, features of construction work items can cause serious overestimate or underestimate in BQT results. It is necessary to identify what kind of problems can happen and how those problems can be avoided in various construction work items, since the discrepancy of quantity take-off results has great impact on not only cost analysis but also the determination of contract amount and it can cause claims, poor construction quality, cost overruns, and many others later in the construction project. Therefore, this paper focuses the identification of issues and problems of BQT at each construction work item level based on two categorizations of structural works and interior works.

  • RFID technologies have attracted a lot of attention in recent years because of their cost/time-effectiveness in large-scale logistics, supply chain management (SCM) and other various potential applications. One of the most important issues of the RFID-based systems is how quickly tags can be identified. Tag collision arbitration plays a more critical role in determining the system performance especially for passive tag-based ones where tag collisions are dealt with rather than prevented. We present a novel tag collision arbitration protocol called Optimum Frame-Slotted Aloha (OFSA). The protocol has been designed to achieve time-optimal efficiency in tag identification through an analytic study of tag identification delay and tag number estimation. Results from our analysis and extensive simulations demonstrate that OFSA outperforms other collision arbitration protocols. Also, unlike most prior anti-collision protocols, it does not require any modification to the current standards and architectures facilitating the rollout of RFID systems.

  • We present a fingerprint identification algorithm using the wavelet transform and correlation. The wavelet transform is used because of its simple operation to extract fingerprint minutiaes features for fingerprint classification. We perform the rowwise 1-D wavelet transform for a $256\times256$ fingerprint image to get a $1\times256$ column vector using the Haar wavelet and repeat 1-D wavelet transform for a 1$\times$256 column vector to get a $1\times4$ feature vector. Using PNN(Probabilistic Neural Network), we select the possible candidates from the stored feature vectors for fingerprint images. For those candidates, we compute the correlation between the input binary image and the target binary image to find the most similar fingerprint image. The proposed algorithm may be the key to a low cost fingerprint identification system that can be operated on a small computer because it does not need a large memory size and much computation.

  • When the vector control, which does not need a speed signal from a mechanical speed sensor, it is possible to reduce the cost of the control equipment and to improve the control performance in many industrial application. This paper describes a rotor speed identification method of induction motor based on the theory of Model Reference Adaptive System(MRAS). The identifier execute the rotor speed identification so that the vector control of the induc-tion motor may be achieved. The improved auxiliary variable are introduce to perform accurate rotor speed identification. Simulation and experimental result show the validity of the proposed control method.

  • Speed control without speed sensor is expected strongly to progress reliability, simplicity and cost performance of I.M and to expand its application part. This paper investigates a novel speed estimation method of I.M considering the secondary resistance identification based on the transientless torque control technique. Especially, this paper aimed at the identification of the secondary resistance simultaneously with speed estimation. For this, the secondary flux with some frequency is controlled independently on torque. The proposed speed estimation method is derived from a motor circuit equation theoretically and also it can be conducted easily by detecting primary motor currents and primary voltage commands at every sampling time. Some numerical simulations with the assumption of using a pulse width modulation(PWM) voltage source inverter and experimental results are performed to verify the proposed method.

  • We propose a new reliable, fast, and low cost identification method for similarly looking 0.3ct vivid yellow color of natural, HPHT treated, and synthesized diamonds. Conventional optical microscopy as well as low temperature PL(photoluminescence), FT-IR, UV-VIS-NIR, micro-Raman spectroscopy, and vibrating sample magnetometry(VSM) characterization were executed. We could not distinguish the natural diamonds from the treated or the synthesized stones with an optical microscopy, PL, FT-IR, and UV-VIS-NIR spectroscopy. However, we could identify the treated diamond with micro-Raman spectroscopy due to unique $1440cm^{-1}$ peak appearance. VSM revealed easily the synthesized diamond because of its ferromagnetic behavior. Our preliminary propose on employing the Micro-Raman spectroscopy and VSM might be suitable for identification of the similar looking vivid yellow colored diamonds.

  • Over the past few decades, few technologies have had a greater impact on clinical microbiology laboratories than matrix-assisted laser desorption time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS). The MALDI-TOF MS is a fast, accurate, and low-cost and efficient method of microbial identification. This technology generates characteristic mass spectral fingerprints that is a unique signature for each microorganism, making it an ideal method for accurate identification at the genus and species levels of both bacterial and fastidious microorganism such as anaerobes, mycobacterium and fungi etc. In addition, MALDI-TOF MS has been successfully used in microbial subtyping and susceptibility tests such as determination of resistance genes. In this study, the authors summarized the application of MALDI-TOF MS in clinical microbiology and clinical research and explored the future of MALDI-TOF MS.

  • The main aim of this paper is the identification of the model parameters for the constitutive model of concrete and concrete-like materials capable of representing full set of 3D failure mechanisms under various stress states. Identification procedure is performed taking into account multi-scale character of concrete as a structural material. In that sense, macro-scale model is used as a model on which the identification procedure is based, while multi-scale model which assume strong coupling between coarse and fine scale is used for numerical simulation of experimental results. Since concrete possess a few clearly distinguished phases in process of deformation until failure, macro-scale model contains practically all important ingredients to include both bulk dissipation and surface dissipation. On the other side, multi-scale model consisted of an assembly micro-scale elements perfectly fitted into macro-scale elements domain describes localized failure through the implementation of embedded strong discontinuity. This corresponds to surface dissipation in macro-scale model which is described by practically the same approach. Identification procedure is divided into three completely separate stages to utilize the fact that all material parameters of macro-scale model have clear physical interpretation. In this way, computational cost is significantly reduced as solving three simpler identification steps in a batch form is much more efficient than the dealing with the full-scale problem. Since complexity of identification procedure primarily depends on the choice of either experimental or numerical setup, several numerical examples capable of representing both homogeneous and heterogeneous stress state are performed to illustrate performance of the proposed methodology.
