Objective : To define optimal method that calculate the safe direction of cervical pedicle screw placement using computed tomography (CT) image based three dimensional (3D) cortical shell model of human cervical spine. Methods : Cortical shell model of cervical spine from C3 to C6 was made after segmentation of in vivo CT image data of 44 volunteers. Three dimensional Cartesian coordinate of all points constituting surface of whole vertebra, bilateral pedicle and posterior wall were acquired. The ideal trajectory of pedicle screw insertion was defined as viewing direction at which the inner area of pedicle become largest when we see through the biconcave tubular pedicle. The ideal trajectory of 352 pedicles (eight pedicles for each of 44 subjects) were calculated using custom made program and were changed from global coordinate to local coordinate according to the three dimensional position of posterior wall of each vertebral body. The transverse and sagittal angle of trajectory were defined as the angle between ideal trajectory line and perpendicular line of posterior wall in the horizontal and sagittal plane. The averages and standard deviations of all measurements were calculated. Results : The average transverse angles were $50.60^{\circ}{\pm}6.22^{\circ}$ at C3, $51.42^{\circ}{\pm}7.44^{\circ}$ at C4, $47.79^{\circ}{\pm}7.61^{\circ}$ at C5, and $41.24^{\circ}{\pm}7.76^{\circ}$ at C6. The transverse angle becomes more steep from C3 to C6. The mean sagittal angles were $9.72^{\circ}{\pm}6.73^{\circ}$ downward at C3, $5.09^{\circ}{\pm}6.39^{\circ}$ downward at C4, $0.08^{\circ}{\pm}6.06^{\circ}$ downward at C5, and $1.67^{\circ}{\pm}6.06^{\circ}$ upward at C6. The sagittal angle changes from caudad to cephalad from C3 to C6. Conclusion : The absolute values of transverse and sagittal angle in our study were not same but the trend of changes were similar to previous studies. Because we know 3D address of all points constituting cortical shell of cervical vertebrae. we can easily reconstruct 3D model and manage it freely using computer program. More creative measurement of morphological characteristics could be carried out than direct inspection of raw bone. Furthermore this concept of measurement could be used for the computing program of automated robotic screw insertion.
If the groundwater in rock joint is changed into ice, it induces the stress increment by volume increase. Also, if the ice is changed into groundwater again, the stress in joint decreases by volume decrease. The accumulated displacement and fatigues of joints are increased by the stress-hysterisis, induced from the continuous frost-thawing. Also the shear strength is decreased by them continuously. The stress-hysterisis is affected by the atmospheric temperature changes, whose behavior is visco-elasticity, usually. Therefore, Kelvin model could be used to analyze the frost-thawing behavior in winter. The measured data of total 5 points are examined, which are composed of 3 points of shallow joints and 2 points of deep joints. Because shallow weathered rocks have many joints, a lot of Kelvin model are connected and the behaviors are complicated. In case of deep joints, simple Kelvin model is applied and the behaviors are also simple.
A tidal prism eutrophication model, an one-dimensional intertidal model, is developed to study water quality conditions at small coastal basins and tidal creeks. The model simulates the physical transport processes using the concept of tidal flushing. The concept is simple and straightforward, and thus is ideal for small coastal basins with complex geometry. The model, having twenty-four state variables in the water column, simulates salinity, temperature, dissolved oxygen, three algal groups, and the cycles of carbon, nitrogen, phosphorus and silica. The model is applied to the Lynnhaven Bay, a small coastal basin of Chesapeake Bay in U.S.A. The model is calibrated using the field data collected in 1994, and then is verified using the independently collected data in 1980. The model overall gives a good reproduction of the field data, partly owing to the data collected from the field surveys specifically designed for the model application. This paper presents the procedure, and the results of the model calibration and verification.
The lower flash points for the n-propanol+n-decane flammable mixture were measured by the Tag open-cup apparatus(ASTM D 1310). The experimental results of mixture exhibited the lower flash point than those of pure component in the flash point versus composition curve. The experimental value of the minimum flash point is $27^{\circ}C$ at a mole fraction of n-propanol of 0.71, and the flash point of n-propanol was $28^{\circ}C$. The experimentally obtained data were compared with the values that had been calculated by use of the prediction model, which assumes an ideal solution, and the flash point prediction models based on the van Laar equation were used to estimate the activity coefficients. The predictive curve based on an ideal solution deviated from the experimental data for this system. The experimental results demonstrate a close agreement with the predicted curves, which used the van Laar equation. The average absolute deviation(A.A.D.) from using the van Lau equation is $0.83^{\circ}C$. The methodology proposed here in this paper can thus be applied to incorporate an inherently safer design for chemical processes, such as determining safe storage and handling conditions for flammable solutions.
Polyimide membrane system was designed for manufacturing nitrogen-enriched gas, and basic technical data was suggested for appling this system to controlled atmosphere storage. The permeability characteristics of pure oxygen and nitrogen could be explained by dual-mode sorption model. There was substantial decrease in the permeation rates of oxygen, which is the more permeable gas, through the polyimide membrane due to the presence of nitrogen in comparison with pure oxygen. However, the permeation rates of nitrogen was increased by the presence of oxygen. The ideal separation factor was in the range of 5 to 6 in the range of temperature and pressure difference studied, and the separation factor of air was lower than the ideal separation factor. The increase of ideal separation factor with increasing temperature is due to the fact that the activation energy for oxygen is larger than that for nitrogen. Nitrogen concentration decreased rapidly with increasing product recovery, and it was found that this is a major operating factor to obtain nitrogen concentration required for controlled atmosphere storage. A relation equation, by which nitrogen concentration in storehouse can be predicted, was suggested under the establishment of a hypothetical model for controlled atmosphere storage process using polyimide membrane system.

In this paper, we propose a novel method that automatically generates real character images to familiarize existing OCR systems with new fonts. At first, we generate synthetic character images using a simple degradation model. The synthetic data is used to train an OCR engine, and the trained OCR is used to recognize and label real character images that are segmented from ideal document images. Since the OCR engine is unable to recognize accurately all real character images, a substring matching method is employed to fix wrongly labeled characters by comparing two strings; one is the string grouped by recognized characters in an ideal document image, and the other is the ordered string of characters which we are considering to train and recognize. Based on our method, we build a system that automatically generates 2350 most common Korean and 117 alphanumeric characters from new fonts. The ideal document images used in the system are postal envelope images with characters printed in ascending order of their codes. The proposed system achieved a labeling accuracy of 99%. Therefore, we believe that our system is effective in facilitating the generation of numerous character samples to enhance the recognition rate of existing OCR systems for fonts that have never been trained.
Three most outstanding maximum flow rate formulas are identified from many existing models. Outlines of the three limiting mass flow rate models are given along with computational procedures to estimate approximate amount of fission products released from a containment to environment for a given characteristic hole size for containment-isolation failure and containment pressure and temperature under a loss of coolant accident. Sample calculations are performed using the critical ideal gas flow rate model and the Moody's graphs for the maximum two-phase flow rates, and the results are compared with the values obtained from the mass leakage rate formula of CONTEMPT-LT code for converging nozzle and sonic flow. It is shown that the critical ideal gas flow rate formula gives almost comparable results as one can obtain from the Moody's model. It is also found that a more conservative approach to estimate leakage rate from a containment under a LOCA is to use the maximum ideal gas flow rate equation rather than tile mass leakage rate formula of CONTEMPT-LT.
Purpose: The aim of this descriptive research study was to identify the factors affecting the ethical decision-making of nursing students. Methods: A convenience sample of 193 nursing students from three nursing colleges in D city who were engaged in clinical practice completed an online Google Forms questionnaire from September 9 to September 20, 2021. Using SPSS 23.0, data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, an independent t-test, a one-way ANOVA, Scheffé's test, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and a multiple regression analysis. Results: The influencing factors of ideal ethical decision-making were guilt (β=.38, p<.001), awareness of the nurses' Code of Ethics (β=.18, p=.023) and motivation for entering school, among general characteristics (β=-.18, p=.033). The explanatory power of the model was 22.2%. Further, the influencing factors of realistic ethical decision-making were ideal ethical decision-making (β=.26, p=.001) and grade (among general characteristics) (β=.15, p=.029); the explanatory power of the model was 17.9%. Conclusion: Various educational tools and programs pertaining to making ideal and ethical decisions must be enhanced to promote ethical choices in clinical areas and realistic ethical decision-making ability to actually make such choices. This focus may enable nurses to improve their nursing professionalism in the future.
We survey the researches on self-reproducing structures on cellular automata. Self-reproduction is the foremost characteristic of life, and cellular automata are ideal model for studying artificial life. From the early studies by Von Neumann to late results on computational models using self-reproducing structures and emergence of self-replication are covered. Also possible applications of self-replicating structures are listed.
This study on Mahāsammata Model of Kingship in Mrauk U Period from the 15th to 18th centuries attempts to demonstrate how the kings of Mrauk U or royal officials tried to claim this legitimating model of kingship and how they accepted this model of kingship and under what conditions the legitimate order of this model was lost. Vital to the adaptation of Mahāsammata model of kingship in the Mrauk U period is the claim that Mrauk U's rulers were direct lineal descendants of the first Buddhist king of the world, Mahāsammata and thence the clan of Gotama Buddha, Sākiya clan. This ideological model of kingship has a recognizable effect on the political stability of Mrauk U kingdom. While the Mahāsammata model of kingship performed as a belief of legitimizing kingship within the arena of royal court, the kings of Mrauk U tried to perform the related models of Mahāsammata, the ideal models of Buddhist kingship as dhammarāja and a cakkavatti. However, the conditions that fail to maintain the Mahāsammata model of kingship saw the weakening of the other related models of kingship, which eventually led to the decline of the kingdom.
