  • In this paper, we aim to evaluate the performance of the digital signal processing (DSP) algorithm used in [8] in order to improve the resolution of spectrometers with fixed number of low-cost, non-ideal filters. In such spectrometers, the resolution is limited by the number of filters. We aim to demonstrate via new experiments that the resolution improvement by six times over the conventional limit is possible by using the DSP algorithm as claimed by [8].

  • During last ten years, logistics network management has become one of the most important sources of competitive advantage regarding logistics cost and customer service in numerous business segments. The key to success in this dynamic and severe business environment is the ability to design and plan the logistics network optimally in an integrated way. Network design and planning involves many issues relating to strategic, tactical, and operational decisions. To assist a logistics designer or planner, many computer-based decision support systems (DSS) have been developed. In this paper, the issues related to design, development, and implementation of the DSS for logistics network design and planning are discussed, and an ideal framework of the DSS is proposed with some ideas on the future development. Finally, DLNET, the DSS developed by author, is briefly introduced.

  • In this paper, we study the problem of model selection for Support Vector Machine(SVM) predictor for short-term load forecasting. The model selection amounts to tuning SVM parameters, such as the cost coefficient C and kernel parameters and so on, in order to maximize the prediction performance of SVM. We propose that Cross-Validation method can be used as a model selection algorithm for SVM-based load forecasting technique. Through the various experiments on several data sets, we found that the difference between the prediction error of SVM using Cross-Validation and that of ideal SVM is less than 5%. This shows that SVM parameters for load forecasting can be efficiently tuned by using Cross-Validation.

  • Cobalt oxide was composite with MWNT to attain cycle stable by chemical method. We have been considered CoOx is the ideal material for high energy density electrochemical capacitor due to pseudo capacitor reaction. In this study we found that decrease in resistance due to composite MWNT. Also CoOx/MWNT composite material have resulted larger capacitance and exhibits better electrochemical behavior. The structural feature was investigated by using SEM. The CoOx/MWNT composite is not only a promising ultracapacitor material for energy storages but also has a good possibility because of its great capacitive properties, simple preparation and low cost.

  • Convolutional neural networks (CNNs) are one of the most frequently used artificial intelligence techniques. Among CNN-based applications, small and timing-sensitive applications have emerged, which must be reliable to prevent severe accidents. However, as the small and timing-sensitive systems do not have sufficient system resources, they do not possess proper error protection schemes. In this paper, we propose MATE, which is a low-cost CNN weight error correction technique. Based on the observation that all mantissa bits are not closely related to the accuracy, MATE replaces some mantissa bits in the weight with error correction codes. Therefore, MATE can provide high data protection without requiring additional memory space or modifying the memory architecture. The experimental results demonstrate that MATE retains nearly the same accuracy as the ideal error-free case on erroneous DRAM and has approximately 60% accuracy, even with extremely high bit error rates.

  • Over the past few decades, few technologies have had a greater impact on clinical microbiology laboratories than matrix-assisted laser desorption time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS). The MALDI-TOF MS is a fast, accurate, and low-cost and efficient method of microbial identification. This technology generates characteristic mass spectral fingerprints that is a unique signature for each microorganism, making it an ideal method for accurate identification at the genus and species levels of both bacterial and fastidious microorganism such as anaerobes, mycobacterium and fungi etc. In addition, MALDI-TOF MS has been successfully used in microbial subtyping and susceptibility tests such as determination of resistance genes. In this study, the authors summarized the application of MALDI-TOF MS in clinical microbiology and clinical research and explored the future of MALDI-TOF MS.

  • An efficient demolition process requires the optimum method selection considering stability, economic feasibility, environment, and workability. In reality the construction cost and period are priority concerns, and safe construction methods are neglected. In addition, the choosing demolition method is often determined subjectively by experienced field engineers. This research paper presents a multi-criteria decision-making method using Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) to select the optimum demolition method. Three experienced demolition engineers' opinions were used to develop the TOPSIS model. The case study showed that the preferences of ten attribute measurements for demolition method selection. Authors suggested the most preferable demolition method for the case study project.

  • Building Information Modeling (BIM) design has been mandatory in Korea since 2016, and it has been gradually expanding in the industry, with a slow attempt to apply it in remodeling constructions. This is because Korea is facing a situation where many buildings are over 30 years old and require remodeling or reconstruction. The remodeling industry is also a growing market, as it saves construction time and cost compared to reconstruction. BIM is an ideal technology element for a competitive remodeling construction, as remodeling constructions face a complicated construction process from the start, including demolition, maintenance, and reinforcement to save the change process. However, there are still limitations in applying BIM to remodeling constructions, due to considerations of the existing building and the complicated requests of the inhabitants. BIM still has technical and environmental limitations for general use. In this study, I analyzed BIM application cases from existing studies and suggest what improvement points should be strengthened.
