  • Since Winslow (1) has reported an electro - theological (ER) effect which features remarkable and reversible changes in the properties of the fluid due to an imposed external electric field, numerous applications of ER fluids in mechanical devices, such as clutches, control valves, active dampers, and etc. have been proposed to improye dramatical ly their performances (2,3). When the external electric field is imposed to the ER fluid, it behaves as a Bingham fluid, displaying a field dependent yield shear stress which is widely variable. Without the electric field, the ER fluid has a reversible and constant viscosity so that it flows as a Newtonian fluid. Another salient feature of the ER fluid is that the time required for the variation is very short (< 0.001 sec) (4-6). These attractive.characteristics of the ER fluid provide the possibility of the appearance of new engineering technology , for instance, an active vibration control system. Recently, the application of the ER fluid to rotor-bearing systems has been also initiated.

Rheological Behavior of Glucosamine and Glucosamine Hydrochloride Suspensions under DC Electric Field

  • The electrorheological behavior of the glucosamine and glucosamine hydrochloride suspensions was investigated. The the glucosamine suspension behaved as a Newtonian fluid due to low conductivity even though it has polar group. The glucosamine hydrochloride suspension behaved as a Nonnewtonian fluid under the application of the electric field. The shear stress of the glucosamine hydrochloride suspension is proportional to 1.86 power of the electric field. The value of the structure factor, $A_s$ was 1 and it may be resulted due to the formation of single chain upon application of the electric field.

  • It is difficult to have the existing structural optimization using coupled field analysis from CFD to structure analysis when the structure is influenced of fluid. Therefore in an initial model of this study after doing parameter design from the background of shape using topology optimization. and it is making a approximation formula using by the CFD-structure coupled-field analysis and design of experiment. By using this result, we conducted multi-objective optimization. We could confirm efficiency of stochastic method applicable in the scene of structure reliability design to be needed multi-objective optimization. And we presented a way of design that could overcome the time and space restriction in structural design such as the butterfly valve with the less experiment.

  • What does sound look like if we can see it? It might depend on the acoustic variables we want to see. In this article, we propose various ways to visualize or express sound field in much more intuitive manner. In particular, new visualization schemes that can effectively visualize sound intensity and 3D pressure field are proposed. This allows us to represent sound pressure, particle velocity and acoustic conductance at the same time, even in three-dimensional coordinate. Visualization examples corresponding to the proposed techniques show that we can successfully transfer the meaning of physical variable to visual space.

  • The superconducting synchronous motor or generator mostly has high permeability iron only around outer yoke portion. Therefore, if excitation voltage (Back E.M.F) is calculated from 2 dimensional magnetic field distributions, it can be largely different from actual value due to additional voltage originated from end coils. In order to calculate the excitation voltage more accurately, 3 dimensional magnetic field calculation is necessary for including the end coil effect from large air-gap structure. The excitation voltage can be calculated by stator (armature) coil linkage flux originated from rotor (field) coil excitation, but it is difficult to calculate the flux linkage exactly because of complicated structure of the stator coil. This paper shows a method to calculate the excitation voltage from 3 dimensional magnetic energy that can be calculated directly from volume integration of magnetic flux density and field intensity scalar product through FEM (Finite Element Method) analysis software.

  • Hydroxygraphene as a kind of functionalized graphene has important applications in composite, photoelectric and biological materials. In the present study, THz and microfluidic technologies were implemented to study the THz transmission characteristics of hydroxygraphene with different concentrations and residence times in magnetic and electric fields. The results show that the THz transmission intensity decreases with the increase in sample concentration and duration of an applied electric field, while it increases by staying longer in the magnetic field. The phenomenon is analyzed and explained in terms of hydrogen bond, conductivity and scattering characteristics. The results establish a foundation for future research on the THz absorption characteristics of liquid graphene based on microfluidic technology in different external environments. It also provides technical support for the application and development of graphene in THz devices.

  • The purpose of this study is to explain employment factors in the software field. For it, the Graduates Occupational Mobility Survey by the Korea employment information service is used. This paper proposes employment models in the software field using machine learning. Then, it explains employment factors of the models using explainable artificial intelligence. The models focus on both university graduates and vocational college graduates. Our works explain and interpret both black box model and glass box model. The SHAP and EBM explanation are used to interpret black box model and glass box model, respectively. The results describes that positive employment impact factors are major, vocational education and training, employment preparation setting semester, and intern experience in the employment models. This study provides a job preparation guide to universitiy and vocational college students that want to work in software field.

A Study on Electrical Characteristics of Field Stop IGBT with Separated Gate Structure (분리된 게이트 구조를 갖는 필드 스톱 IGBT의 전기적 특성에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, a 1,200 V Si-based IGBT used in electric vehicles and new energy industries was designed. A field stop IGBT with a separate gate structure, which is the proposed structure, was designed to change trench depth and split gate width variables. Then, the general trench structure and electrical characteristics were compared and analyzed. As a result of conducting the trench depth experiment, it was confirmed that the breakdown voltage was the highest at 6 ㎛, and the on-state voltage drop was the lowest at 3.5 ㎛. In the separate gate width experiment, it was confirmed that the breakdown voltage decreased as the variable increased, and the on-state voltage drop increased. Therefore, it may be seen that it is preferable not to change the width of the separate gate. In addition, experiments show that there is no difference in on-state voltage drop compared to a structure in which a general field stop structure has a separate gate structure. In other words, it is determined that adding a dummy gate with a separate gate structure to the active cell will significantly improve the on-voltage drop characteristics, while confirming that the on-voltage drop does not change, and while having excellent characteristics in terms of breakdown voltage.

  • With the development of RFID and USN technology, kinds of services are appeared and industrialized to maximize management, maintenance and efficiency of production. In the agricultural field, it is important to increase productivity and quality of food by managing growth environment of plants. In this paper, to apply IT technology to agriculture, we present a mobile service application called WiSEMobile which support growers to monitor and manage the information in the field from remote sites. By using the service with mobile devices, farmers can monitor the change of environment with data from sensor nodes, manage and exchange kinds of data gathered by farmers in the field.

The Study on Correction Factor of a Small Scale Reverberation Chamber to Estimate Transmission Loss (소형 잔향실의 확산 음장 보정 계수 측정 연구)

  • Transmission loss of specimen is calculated by measuring energy of incident and transmission and using reverberant room of large size. But normal measurement of transmission loss has trouble because it is actually demanded that large area and specimen of certain size is satisfied with condition of diffused sound field. Especially, in case of mechanical component, interested frequency band is mid-frequency band between 500 ~ 2k Hz, and it is used to be available to minimize a reverberation chamber under conditions satisfying acoustic one because production of specimen for transmission loss measurement has limit. But, as in semi-reverberation room, it is difficult to satisfy condition of diffuse sound field and modification factor is applied to complement that. Correction factor when measuring transmission loss using semi-reverberation chamber is required accuracy because it works as main factor determining reliability of reuslts on transmission loss. In this study, it is analyzed that an effect on correction factor based on varying materials and sizes of specimens in order to deduction of it. Also It is confirmed that applied by elicited correction factor with actual railway vehicle's floor has reliability.
