Patterns and Factors Causing Construction Waste Generation in High-Rise Housing Projects in Korea : A Case Study (고층 주거건물 프로젝트에서 발생하는 폐기물 발생패턴 및 발생 유발 요인 분석)

  • In order to respond to interest and regulations in sustainable environment which is increasing, construction industry needs to establish a sustainable production system. When generation of wastes can be diminished and recycling of them raised in the construction site as a part of a sustainable production system, it might contribute to not only establishing a sustainable production system but also gaining economical profit. This study is a preliminary research for establishing a sustainable production system, which aims to identify construction waste generation patterns and factors causing construction waste generation. Case studies were implemented to investigate these patterns and factors.

  • The physical factors and chemical contents were studied at 8 stations within Masan Bay, differing in depth and location with respect to inner and outer harbours. It is a relatively small bay with a long and narrow outlet. The water temperature and salinity at the inner bay was rather subject to change on weather condition of the neighbouring land than on the effects of the water mass of outer bay. The high nutrient contents in the bay were caused by the sewage and industrial activities. The outer harbour was less polluted than that of the inner bay; the high contents were significantly decreased from the entrance of the outer harbour. While the high disolved oxygen contents, over saturation in the surface strata may be the result of nearly all year round phytoplankton blooms, the lack of oxygen contents in the bottom strata were caused by the inadequate mixing of water mass and organic matters. The frequent red tide in the area may be the results of inflowing raw sewage, industrial activities of neighbouring land and inadequate mixing of water masses.

  • High-frequency induction hardening (HFIH) is used in many industries and has a number of advantages, including reliability and repeatability. It is a non-contact method of providing energy-efficient heat in the minimum amount of time without using a flame. Recently, HFIH has been actively studied using the finite-element method (FEM), however, these studies only focused on the accuracy of the analysis. In this paper, we analyzed HFIH by using a variable frequency based on the conditions of the same shape and input power then comparing the analysis results to experimental results. The analysis and experimental results indicate that the hardening depths are approximately the same using the optimal frequency of 3kHz.

  • Designs in the modernism era were produced for the purpose of standardization of items and devices centered on efficiency and functions, and the will of design consumers in the industrial era, when consumption exceeded production, was limited to the objects of consumption. But, after the post-modernism era, design consumers have started to entail acts of exclusive possession such as participation in the design idolization, partipation, tuning, control and parody as design consumers in the digital environment do not passively accept what is given to them anymore, and aggressively intervene in the process of design production and management. It is expected that designs will change from the system in which only professionals can produce and manage its production to that of cooperating with consumers to produce designs, and various forms of consumers' exclusive possession will change all sort of design environments including production methods surrounding design products and distribution. Therefore, this study seeks to induce efficient design production by understanding changes of consumers' cultural environment resisting standardization and structuralization with smoothy perception between producers and consumers through classification of consumers' appropriation into de-construction, re-signification and self-identification.

Development of Automatic Airborne Image Orthorectification Using GPS/INS and LIDAR Data (GPS/INS와 LIDAR자료를 이용한 자동 항공영상 정사보정 개발)

  • Digital airborne image must be precisely orthorectified to become geographical information. For orthorectification of airborne images, GPS/INS (Global Positioning System/Inertial Navigation System) and LIDAR (LIght Detection And Ranging) elevation data were employed. In this study, 635 frame airborne images were produced and LIDAR data were converted to raster image for applying to image orthorectification. To derive images with constant brightness, flat field correction was applied to images. The airborne images were geometrically corrected by calculating internal orientation and external orientation using GPS/INS data and then orthorectified using LIDAR digital elevation model image. The precision of orthorectified images was validated by collecting 50 ground control points from arbitrary five images and LIDAR intensity image. As validation result, RMSE (Root Mean Square Error) was 0.387 as almost same as only two times of pixel spatial resolution. It is possible that this automatic orthorectification method of airborne image with higher precision is applied to airborne image industry.

  • This paper presents a framework for quantitative software development performance measurement and analysis based on characteristics of software in System on Chip (SoC) industry, one of the semiconductor businesses. In this paper, we propose a measurement model based on not only theoretical model (Performance Pyramid) but also characteristics of SoC embedded software. Quantitative software development performance measurement is not just collecting indicators but analyzing quality, cost, and delivery (QCD) of collected indicators. Externally, it is possible for programmers to develop software meeting customers' needs. Internally, more efficient software development can be possible through the visible productivity increase. Using the proposed framework, the paper quantitatively measures embedded software development performance.

Comparative Study of Truck Traffic System Management for Reducing Air Pollution Impact - Forcusing on Sihwa National Industrail Complex, Siheung City - (교통체계개선에 의한 화물교통 대기오염영향 저감방안 - 시흥시 시화국가산업단지를 중심으로 -)

  • The factor of air pollution in a large industrial city is not only manufactories but also, activities related to trucks. Sihwa National Industrial Complex is located in Siheung City; due to the industries, more diverse activities related to trucks occur in Siheung City than other cities. In particular, the new residential area in Siheung City is close to the industrial complex; so, the damage of this residential area is expected that it would be more serious and vulnerable than other areas. The aim of this study is to analyze influence of the air pollution by a truck in Siheung City. ISCST3 Model and Arc View program were used for this study and Siheung City was divided into 1,000 meter by 1,000 meter grid to analyze. Furthermore, this study suggested two reduction controls of air pollution in Siheung City, and analyzed the results from these reduction managements. The results of the present condition showed that residences located in north of Sihwa Industrial Complex are influenced by air pollution material. Furthermore, air pollution by trucks has affected on the residents which is near the road in Siheung City. Therefore, this study suggested two reduction controls by the Traffic System Management. The first alternative plan is setting the truck traffic limitation zone in the road that is located in south of resident areas and many trucks traffic. Next, the second alternative plan is setting freight truck way on the most traffic road to enter the industrial complex. The reduction effect of the first alternative is good on the residential area. And, the second alternate about freight truck way is divided passenger cars into trucks. Therefore, there are increase of average speed and decrease of average concentration, and spatial reduction effects found in wide areas.

  • Daesan Harbor is developing under the Industrial Complex or Petrochemistry Development Plan making the port the main hub-port in the West coast. Because of this development. the traffic volume is expected to increase to 9,1.95 incoming vessels by 2020, an increase of 167% compared to 2008 figure. This study thoroughly analyzes and evaluates a systematic and comprehensive use of the fairway in the Daesan Harbor. It establishes a future oriented and safe marine transportation environment upon appropriate examination of the total fairways and sailing assistance facilities.

  • The importance of cost management in early stage has been increasing due to market change and competition severence in construction industry. Because the adjustable budget is only 20% after finishing design stage, the critical decision is made in the early stage. However, in the early stage, the design information is not enough to make crucial decision. Therefore, this research suggests the predicting method on the purpose of accurate cost estimation. The parametric estimation is appropriate for the early stage, especially it has the strength of rapidity in cost estimation. This research analyzes 84 actual data of public apartment on the scale of $11{\sim}15$ stories, and then performs the correlation analysis between cost and influence factors. After eliminating the parameters which causes the problem of multicollinearity, this research derived the formula through the multi-regression analysis.

Estimating Method of Surface Roughness Using Geographic Information (지리정보를 이용한 지표면조도 산정 방법)

  • Rapid urban expansion and densification of the various industrial facilities affect the changes of topography and building in urban areas. Even if buildings proceed with high rise, they get mixed with low-rise buildings such as houses and industrial parks that have existed in the area. This may confuse the designer in estimating a surface roughness, an important factor in calculating the design wind velocity of building. This study analyzed the surface roughness by using a geographic information. Referring to the criteria of each country's building code, this study proposed a method to distinguish the surface roughness depending on the height of the surrounding buildings where the design building is located and calculated the surface roughness using 1:5000 topographic map and GIS. It is expected to solve problems that an existing designer calculates the surface roughness in a subjective manner and to help to design more rational buildings resistant to wind.
