Effect of the Consensus among Stakeholders on Project Performance in Construction Industry (건설 산업에서 이해관계자들의 인식 부합이 프로젝트 성과에 미치는 영향)

  • Stakeholder management in construction projects is an important factor in project performance creation. The purpose of this study is to verify the effect of the recognition of the importance of the quality influence factors among the stakeholders of the construction project on the perceived quality and the project performance. The impact of the project management methodology on the project performance has been actively researched, but there is little research result on the project stakeholders. The projects to be researched are apartments and buildings that have been completed within the last five years of domestic large construction company. The method of survey is to measure the consensus of the importance of the quality influential factors among the three parties such as the ordering party, the design supervisor and the constructor, and confirm whether the agreement affects the quality of the actual project. Finally, the research model was verified by surveying the satisfaction of the client on the final product. The results are as follow. The degree of agreement on the importance of quality influential factors among stakeholders has a significant effect on perceived quality. In the relationship between perceived quality of influence factors, organizational (support) quality influenced technological quality and managerial quality, and technological quality and managerial quality also have significant influence on resource quality. The results of analysis showed that perceived quality of resources strongly influenced project performance. The remaining three experienced qualities also significantly affect project performance.

  • The Lifelong Learning City Project has made quantitative expansion as well as qualitative growth since 2001 but the project has been criticized by academic scholars and field practitioners. The Lifelong Learning City Project is a national policy project which has been promoted by the Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development and should be required to make production profits proportional to the amount of public finance. The Lifelong Learning City Project is a community development project intended to promote growth and progress by supporting the community in lifelong learning endeavors. Therefore, the community development theory could offer guidelines to the Lifelong Learning City Project. Based on this assumption, this study intends to investigate the Lifelong Learning City Project at the national, city, and county levels using the community development theory. The improvement methods of the Lifelong Learning City Project are role allotment between national and wide level projects supporting organizations, and the establishment of a system and a long term project policy. In addition, the project is to have a more systematic performance. It is to enhance opportunities for community members' participation, and practice in planning, performance of learning, and the proper performance in regard to the community conditions and specificity. The most important goal of the Lifelong Learning City Project is to support the empowerment of community members by making opportunity planning, practicing and sharing lifelong learning more accessible.

A Risk Analysis Model Using VERT for R & D Project Management (R & D 프로젝트의 위험분석모형의 연구)

  • Increasingly, risk analysis is becoming important ingredients in achieving the successful implementation and application in the area of the project management. The project management system is designed to manage or control the project resources on a given activity within time, cost and performance so called TPPM (Total Productive Project Management). In this research, a risk analysis model misproposed to identify potential problem areas, quantify the risks, and generated the chice of the action that can be taken to reduce the risk. In addition two analysis models are proposed : 1) risk factor model and 2) network simulation model using VERT (Venture Evaluation and Review Technique ). The objective of the remodels is to estimate the schedule, cost performance risks. These proposed quantitative models for project risk analysis are proving its value for the project managers who need to assess the risk of changes in cost, schedule, or performance. The proposed models will be used in the area of project selection, evaluation and the allocation of project resources.

  • The objective of this study is to suggest the effects of the fit between project managers' competency and leadership style on the performance of IT projects. Also, this study examine that the project duration among the project's characteristics moderates the impact of the managers' competency and leadership style on the performance of IT projects. As the results of analysis, we found that the participative leadership and the supportive leadership of project manager is affected by the human and the conceptual skills, and the directive-achievement leadership is affected by the technical skills positively. The project duration moderates the impact of the fit between the participative leadership and the technical skills. and the fit between the directive-achievement leadership and the technical and the human skills positively.

  • This research is to suggest the factor which is effecting on the information system audit fidelity in the perspective of audit procurer, to develop the measure to evaluate it, to investigate the audit performance and project performance for comparison the audit fidelity between the audit teams. As the analysis results, we found that the audit service factors can be divided to the expert knowledge of auditor and the project attributes itself. It means these factors are the major measures for the audit fidelity. In this research, the hypothesis of this study model is verified throughout the factor and corelation analysis, and the structured equation model is applied. Analysis results show that all relations between the factors are significant statistically. The audit service factors has an effect on audit fidelity. Also the information system audit fidelity can be affect on the project performance, audit performance and customer satisfaction. So, in conclusion, we need to judge closely the audit service factors affecting the audit fidelity for the enhancement of the project performance, audit performance and customer satisfaction.

  • The development of IT is transforming from the way it has been working face-to-face in performing projects to the online collaboration method using web-based tools. Therefore, various online collaboration tools are being developed and commercialized, including 'Google Docs', which is called the online office. Using these online collaboration tools, users can share documents with other users and collaborate in real time. Therefore, in recent years, companies and educational institutions have been using online collaboration tools to carry out tasks and projects that require collaboration. Various factors can affect the project performance satisfaction through online collaboration tools. In this regard, it is necessary to confirm the factors affecting the satisfaction of the project performance. However, there is not enough empirical research on the satisfaction of the performance through the online collaboration tool. Therefore, this study will investigate the mechanism of project performance satisfaction through online collaboration tool considering the Individual characteristics of the project performing subject, the relationship characteristics between the project members, and the system characteristics of the collaboration tool.

  • Due to the development of modern technology and the enlargement of industrial scale, the scale of many projects is expanding and the complexity is also increasing. Individual management of existing projects cannot effectively manage projects in this trend, and it is necessary to systematically manage the entire process from initiation to completion. Accordingly, the need for integrated management and life cycle management that can efficiently manage the entire project is emerging, and for this, a systematic project management system is also required. PMS enables efficient project management by linking business processes such as resource, schedule, scope, and output management of a project with separately separated infrastructure accordingly. In this paper, a research model was proposed to manage the project from the perspective of implementing integrated management and life cycle management, especially during R&D project execution, and to prove the mediating role between PMS and R&D project performance for this purpose. The proposed research model will be able to help companies and organizations that feel the need to implement integrated management and life cycle management and are preparing to build a PMS-type system or that have already been established to efficiently perform project management.

Forecasting Project Cost and Time using Fuzzy Set Theory and Contractors' Judgment

  • This paper presents a new method for forecasting construction project cost and time at completion or at any intermediate time horizon of the project duration. The method is designed to overcome identified limitations of current applications of earned value method in forecasting project cost and time. The proposed method usesfuzzy set theory to model uncertainties associated with project performance and it integrates the earned value technique and the contractors' judgement. The fuzzy set theory is applied as an alternative approach to deterministic and probabilistic methods. Using fuzzy set theory allows contractors to: (1) perform risk analysis for different scenarios of project performance indices, and (2) perform different scenarios expressing vagueness and imprecision of forecasted project cost and time using a set of measures and indices. Unlike the current applications of Earned Value Method(EVM), The proposed method has a numberof interesting features: (1) integrating contractors' judgement in forecasting project performance; (2) enabling contractors to evaluate the risk associated with cost overrun in much simpler method comparing with that of simulation, and (3) accounting for uncertainties involved in the forecasting project cost.

  • Even though the success of the information system (IS) protect becomes a critical issue to an enterprise and there has been a lot of research about finding critical success factors of IS projects, the scope management for the success of IS protect has received little attention in the literature. The purpose of this research is to investigate the effects of the project scope management activities defined by PMI (Project Management Institute) on the performance of the information system project. The focus of this paper is on the project supplier's point of view. This study shows the priority of the scope management activities during the IS Project. The results show the different results depending on the types of the project clients and the project scale. This research reveals that the scope verification is important for the project supplier from the project process view, and that the scope planning/definition is important for the protect client from the project result view. It also shows different results comparing to the conventional recognition about project success. The research results show that the positive relationships between the project scale and the importance of scope management activities, and between the familiarity of suppliers and clients and the importance of the scope management activities. Through this research, we expect that the importance of the scope management in a project will be considered as an important issue, and that this research will lead to various detailed research about this issue.

THE IDENTIFICATION OF MALAYSIAN CONTRACTOR SATISFACTION DIMENSIONS: A STRATEGY FOR CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT

  • The unique characteristics of the construction industry - such as the fragmentation of its processes, varied scope of works and diversity of its participants - are contributory factors to poor project performance. Several issues are unresolved due to the lack of a comprehensive technique to measure project outcomes including: inefficient decision making, insufficient communication, uncertain site conditions, a continuously changing environment, inharmonious working relationships, mismatched objectives within the project team and a blame culture. One approach to overcoming these problems appears to be to measure performance by gauging contractor satisfaction (Co-S) levels, but this has not been widely investigated as yet. Additionally, the key Co-S dimensions at the project level are still not fully identified. This paper concerns a study of satisfaction dimensions, primarily by a postal questionnaire survey of construction contractors registered by the Malaysian Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB). Eight satisfaction dimensions are identified that are significantly and substantially relate to these contractors - comprising: project cost performance, schedule performance, product performance, design satisfaction, site safety, project profitability, business performance and relationships between participants. -Each of these dimensions is accorded different priority levels of satisfaction by different contractors. The output of this study will be useful in raising the awareness and understanding of project teams regarding contractors' needs, mutual objectives and open communication to help to deliver a successful project.
