A study on radiation hardening of infrared(IR) detector, the chief component of IR camera was performed. The radiation test on IR sensor passivated with the ZnS by Co$^{60}$ gamma-ray over 1 Mrads showed the reduction in Ro by 1/100 which was related to the noise level. This effect that was caused by carrier trapping in the ZnS passivation layer increased the leakage current and resulted in degradation in the device performance. For the radiation hardening of IR devices we suggested the ones with CdTe passivation layer which had a tendency to reluctant to carrier trapping in its layer and developed test patterns. Radiation test to the patterns showed that the our CdTe passivated device could survived over 1 Mrad gamma-ray dose.
FT-IR and thermograph were used to investigate the infrared radiation characteristics of $SiO_2$film made by the sol-gel method. FT-IR spectrum of the $SiO_2$film showed high infrared absorption by Si-O-Si vibration at 1220, 1080, 800 and cm$460^{-1}$ The infrared absorption and radiation wavelength ranges of the $SiO_2$film measured by the integration method coincided with the reflection method, and the infrared emissivity was 0.65, equally. Depending on the bonding of elements, the infrared emissivity was high in the wavelength range where the infrared absorption rate was high, that follows the Kirchhoff's law. The emissivity showed the highest value in the wavelength range between $8∼10\mu\textrm{m}$. $SiO_2$film was considered as an efficient materials for infrared radiator at temperature below 10$0^{\circ}C$. The heat radiation temperature was $117^{\circ}C$ for the aluminum plate, but $146^{\circ}C$ for the $SiO_2$film after 7 minutes heat absorption, consiquently, $29^{\circ}C$ higher than the former.
This research was carried out to obtain the fundamental data for the development of the technology and practical use of far-infrared radiation(IR) drying of quarter-sliced decorative veneers of walnut and red oak. The average drying rates of IR drying were about one and half to four times those of kiln drying and this tendency was prominent in thin veneer. The end wavinesses of the IR-dried veneers were smaller than those of kiln-dried veneers. These were largely recovered by the cold treatments after drying. The consumed electric power for IR drying was about one-fifth to two-fifthes compared to that for kiln drying.
While ultraviolet radiation alters various cutaneous cell functions, little is known about photo-immunological and photobiological effects of infrared radiation (IR) on the skin except its local thermal effects. The fIrst part of this study demonstrated that single exposure of mouse skin to near IR (0.7 - 1.3 $\mu$m) reversibly suppressed the proliferating activity of the epidermis, the density of Langerhans cells, and the ability of skin to induce contact hypersensitivity reaction. The second part demonstrated that the rate of wound closure was significantly accelerated by repeated exposures in animal models. The production of transforming growth factor-$\beta$l and matrix metalloproteinase-2, which are responsible for the wound healing processes, was significantly upregulated by irradiation, as shown by enzyme immunoassay, zymography, and reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction. Thermal controls were negative. The results suggest that near-IR irradiation can modulate the epidermal proliferation and part of the skin immune system, and stimulate the wound healing processes, presumably by non-thermal effects.
This paper deals with the development of measuring methodology and the requirement for its evaluation of the infrared radiation from a naval ship to optical sensors, considering the Meteorological conditions. Factors required for measuring the apparent temperature and infrared radiation are identified and two methods are suggested based on the measuring instruments carried by ship or aircraft. and target operation in the Meteorological conditions is considered. This study describes some factors affecting the IR signature. required instruments to obtain the IR signal considering the naval ship.
Infrared (IR) detectors are widely used for such applications as thermoelastic stress analysis, medical diagnostics and temperature measurement. Infrared detectors commonly need to be refrigerated below 80 K, and thus a cooling system should be equipped together with the detector system. The cooling load, which should be removed by the cooling system to maintain the nominal operating temperature of the detector, critically depends on the insulation efficiency of the cryochamber housing the detector. Thermal load of a cryochamber is attributed to the conduction heat transfer through a cold finger, the gases conduction and radiation heat transfer. The thermal loads of an infrared detector cryochamber with a radiation shield are investigated experimentally in present study. Since the effect of radiation heat transfer on thermal loads is significant, radiation shields is installed in the cold finger part to protect heat input through radiation.
The modern infrared (IR) imaging systems use mainly one or more wavelength bands among short wavelength IR (SWIR), middle wavelength IR (MWIR), and long wavelength IR (LWIR) bands. In the process of IR image synthesis and modeling, IR image wavelength-band conversion which transforms arbitrary band image to other band one is required. The wavelength-band conversion procedure includes a temperature estimation process of an object surface. However, in this procedure, an approximated Planck's radiation equation causes errors in estimated temperature. In this paper, we propose an estimation temperature error attenuation method in IR image band conversion procedure. The estimated temperature is corrected with a slope information of radiance according to it. The corrected temperature is used for generation of the other band IR image. The verification of proposed method is demonstrated through the simulation.
This study investigated the effects of infrared (IR) radiation combined with air blast thawing on the physical properties of pork. Regardless of air velocity, increasing IR dosage produced an exponential increase in the thawing rate of pork. This rate increased further when air blast velocity was increased. IR treatments showed significantly lower thawing loss than that of 0 Watt treatment, while increasing air velocity significantly increased thawing loss of pork (p<0.05). Increasing both IR power and air velocity tended to decrease the cooking loss of pork. Moreover, increased IR power tended to decrease the water holding capacity and shear force of pork. The shear force changes were not significant (p>0.05). Shear force also increased with increasing air velocity. In addition, the higher the air velocity the higher the shear force of pork. In Commission Internationale de l'Eclairage (CIE) colour determination, control of temperature prevented discolouration from overheating of sample surface. The results suggest that IR dosage combined with air blast has potential in thawed meat quality aspects, and that humidity control could prevent surface drying.
