Design of Dual Band Log-Periodic Dipole Antennas for the Cellular/IMT-2000 Band (Cellular/IMT-2000 공용 이중밴드 대수주기 다이폴 안테나 설계)

  • In this paper Dual Band Log-Periodic Dipole Antenna(DLPDA), which can be used at the Cellular/IMT-2000 band, is proposed. The proposed antenna is composed of 2 of Log-Periodic Dipole Antenna(LPDA) and parasitic elements. To investigate the reliability of the proposed antenna, DLPDA is designed at the cellular/IMT-2000 band and analyzed by using the method of moment, Numerical results are compared with measured results. It is shown that although the antenna length is 70 cm, its radiation characteristics satisfied the design goals of gain, VSWR and beamwidth at the Cellular/IMT-2000 band. From these results, the proposed DLPDA is confirmed as the dual band antenna which can be used at the cellular/IMT-2000 band.

  • In the world each bureau tries an introduction of Mobile WiMAX frequency in the various band. Particularly, 2.5 GHz band is likely to be used as the future mobile telecommunication using as the IMT-2000 additional band which determined in WRC, and it comes into the spotlight as the band of the global radio broadband service including the Mobile WiMAX. Thus, the activity for including the Mobile WiMAX to the IMT-2000 technical standard is unfolded for the WiBro market development in the ITU-R WP8F conference, and the adoption or rejection will be finally determined in the ITU-R RA-07. Therefore, this paper tried to look for the plan for reaction according to the IMT-2000 standard acceptance of WiBro technology and the foreign usage plan of 2.5 GHZ band.

Design of Dipole Array Antennas for PCS/IMT-2000 (PCS/IMT-2000을 위한 다이폴 배열 안테나의 설계)

  • In this paper, the rectangular reflector antenna with 8-dipole array for PCS band (1,750 MHz ~ l,870 MHz) and IMT-2000 band(1,885 MHz ~ 2,200 MHz) is designed and the radiation characteristics are analyzed using the method of moments and HFSS(High Frequency Structure Simulator). To verify the analysis results, rectangular reflector antenna with 8-dipole array is fabricated and the calculated results are compared with the measured results. The measured results show good agreement with the calculated results. As a result of measurements, bandwidth(VSWR< 1.5) of 450 MHz is achieved at PCS and IMT-2000 band and gain is 16 dBi. The designed antenna can be used as the base station antenna for PCS/IMT-2000.

  • In this paper, a novel dual and wide band aperture stacked patch antenna for Cellular/PCS/IMT-2000 base station is presented. It consists of single microstrip patch having notches along the radiating patch, two dielectric substrates and a form material. To achieve wide band characteristic, we utilize the coupling effect between the notched patch and the resonant aperture in the ground plane and by properly cutting notches on the patch, an aperture stacked patch antenna could be designed to yield dual frequency operation. By the proper choice of resonant aperture size and height of a foam material, dual and wide band characteristic could be realized the measured impedance bandwidth(1:1.5 VSWR) of designed antenna at lower band(860 MHz) reaches 77 MHz and covers the Cellular CDMA band(824∼894 MHz). The measured impedance bandwidth(1:1.5 VSMR) of the designed antenna at upper band(1,960 MHz) is about 550 MHz and covers both the PCS band(1,750∼l,870 MHz) and the for-2000 band(1,920∼2,170 MHz). Good broadside radiation with high gain(5.65∼7.4 dBi) characteristics have also been observed.

  • In this paper, we designed and implemented the dual band monopole antenna for cellular CDMA(Code Division Multiple Access) and IMT-2000(International Mobile Telecommunication 2000) repeater. The antenna was designed by using 3D simulations program, HFSS(High Frequency Structure Simulator). Electrical characteristics were measured by using HP 8720C network analyzer and measured maximum S$\_$11/ was -10.9 dB for all frequency bands of interests in Cellular CDMA and IMT-2000. Simulation results for antenna gain at 859 MHz and 2027.5 MHz were 2.38 dBi and 4.02 dBi respectively with omni directional radiation pattern. The size of implemented antenna is compact and the antenna can be produced in low cost enough for commercialization.

  • In this paper, the wideband microstrip patch antennas for the Personal communications Service (PCS : 1750∼1870 MHz) and International Mobile Telecommunications-2000 (IMT-2000 : 1920∼2170 MHz) dual band are studied. Experimental and simulation results on the dual band antenna are presented. Simulation results are in good agreement with measurements. The experimental and simulation results confirm the wideband characteristics of the antenna. The studied antenna satisfied the wideband characteristics that are required characteristics for above 420 MHz impedance bandwidth for the PCS and IMT-2000 dual band antenna. In this paper, through the designing of a dual band antenna, we have presented the availability for PCS & IMT-2000 base station antenna. An impedance bandwidth of 33% (VSWR<1.5, 650 GHz) and a maximum gain of 7dB can be achieved. The radiation pattern is stable across the passband.

  • In this paper, we designed and implemented the dual band antenna for IMT-2000 and 5.7㎓ WLAN(Wireless Local Area Network). The antenna was designed by using 3D simulations program, HFSS(High Frequency Structure Simulator). The electrical characteristics were measured by using HP 8720C network analyzer and measured maximum S$\sub$11/ was -25㏈, and maximum VSWR(Voltage Standing Wavc Ratio) was 1.26 for all frequency bands of interests in IMT-2000 and 5.7㎓ WLAN. Simulation results for antenna gain at 2㎓ and 5.7㎓ were 1.31㏈i and 4.1㏈i with omni directional radiation pattern. Implemented antenna is compact sized and can be produced in low cost enough for commercialization.

  • In this paper, the triangular u-slot patch antenna for the PCS & IMT-2000 dual band are studied. The frequency bandwidth of a triangular u-slot patch antenna can be increased by L-strip fed structure. The impedance bandwidth(VSWR$\leq$2) of the fabricated single element is 590 MHz(30.18 %). Using the frequency bandwidth of PCS & IMT-2000, we confirm VSWR below 1.65, which is a good characteristic. Thus the wideband characteristic of the L-strip fed structure is confirmed experimentally.

  • In This paper, a novel broadband monopole antenna is investigated experimentally. Our broadband monopole antenna yields the largest bandwidth from 1.72 ∼ 2.2 GHz ( 24.2 % ) for VSWR<1.2 So, this antenna can be designed to extend enough the coverage of dual band(PCS+IMT-2000). The measurements and computations are confirmed to operating of the our broadband antenna, whose electrical characteristics have an attractive feature as handset communication applications.

  • 본 논문은 PCS (1750-1850 MHz)대역과 IMT-2000 (1920-2170 MHz)대역의 이중대역 (Dual-Band) 주파수(420 MHz)를 동시에 만족시킬 수 있는 "L"형태의 급전구조를 이용한 광대역 특성을 갖는 안테나로서 주파수 대역폭은 중심주파수(1.96 GHz)의 33%(VSWR < 1.5, 650 MHz)이고, 이득은 7dBi 이상의 양호한 특성을 얻었다.
