  • In this paper, we design a gateway protocol architecture for building an IoT-based smart factory. A smart factory system consists of several terminal devices, gateways and servers, and connects them through a wireless network. The terminal device collects information from various sensors and transmits the information to the server through the gateway. The terminal device controls the actuator by receiving a control signal according to a control algorithm of the server or by manual operation. Therefore, the gateway system connects Wi-SUN, a wireless smart utility network, and the Internet, serves as a Wi-SUN coordinator, and is equipped with Modbus-TCP to interwork with SCADA.

A Study of Compensation Algorithm for Localization based on Equivalent Distance Rate using Estimated Location Coordinator Searching Scheme (예상 위치좌표 탐색기법을 적용한 균등거리비율 기반 위치인식 보정 알고리즘 연구)

  • The estimated location coordinator exploration scheme and the E&E(Equivalent distance rate & Estimated location coordinator exploration) compensation algorithm for localization is proposed, and the performance of the E&E is analyzed in this paper. The proposed scheme is adapted to the AEDR(Algorithm for localization using the concept of Equivalent Distance Rate). From several experiments, it is confirmed that the performance of the localization compensation in SDS-TWR is improved from 0.60m to 0.34m in four experimental scenarios, and the performance of the localization compensation ratio of the E&E is also better than that of the AEDR as a level of maximum 15%. It can be thought that the proposed localization compensation algorithm E&E can be sufficiently applicable to various localization applications because the performance of the localization error rate of the E&E is measured as less than 1m in 99% of the total performance experiments.

  • The sensors attached on/in a person are moved since human body frequency changes their activity, therefore in wireless body area networks, nodal mobility and non-line-of-sight condition will impact on performance of networks such as energy efficiency and reliable communication. We then proposed schemes which study on forwarding decisions against frequent change of topology and channel conditions to increase reliable connections and improve energy efficiency. In this work, we control the size of packets, forwarding rate based on ratio of input links and output links at each node. We also robust the network topology by extending the peer to peer IEEE 802.15.4-based. The adaptive topology from chain-based to grid-based can optimal our schemes. The simulation shows that these approaches are not only extending network lifetime to 48.2 percent but also increase around 6.08 percent the packet delivery ratio. The "hot spots" problem is also resolved with this approach.

  • In this paper, a distributed mobile relay power control (DMRPC) scheme for maximizing individual cell throughput is proposed for mobile relay aided multi-cell orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM)-time division duplex (TDD) system. In the system with DMRPC, the power levels of relay's are controlled by individual cell without cell cooperation and signalling overhead. It is demonstrated by numerical simulation that DMRPC provides the better cell throughput performance than either the full power relay aided system or conventional system without relay does. Moreover, it is also shown that relay aided systems with DMRPC, and the conventional system have almost identical cell edge throughput, while full power relay aided systems show worse performance in cell edge throughput.

  • Platform convergence originated from the convergence of broadcast and telecommunication is making rapid progress including IT and not-IT fields in order to provide a variety of converged services, S/W eco-system construction, and so on. With the advent of convergence environment, IEEE 802.15.4-based RF4CE technology is rising because of creating momentum for the market using converged connectivity between home and office devices as well as all around located devices. In this paper, we present enhanced RF4CE key seed distribution approach in order to provide efficient connection and control between devices. The proposed approach consists of device mutual authentication, initial vector assignment, and two-phase key seed distribution. Moreover, we make a development real RF4CE test board and its key agreement simulator to verify the proposed approach.

  • In this paper, we analyze the active RFID system ISO/IEC 18000-7. In order to apply to USN, which consists active RFID tags and sensor nodes, we propose UWB-based Class 4 active RFID protocol using active RFID relay tag as relay AP. To compare the performance between the existing ISO/IEC 18000-7 system and the proposed system, we introduce sensitivity-based measurement of achieved coverage and system efficiency. Also, we analyze the performance of the proposed system and compare it with that of the existing system through MCL analysis and SLS analysis.

  • In this paper, the compensation algorithm for localization using the concept of equivalent distance rate(AEDR) in order to compensate ranging error in the SDS-TWR(Symmetric Double-Sided Two-Way Ranging) is proposed and the performance of the proposed algorithm is analyzed by the localization experiments. The ranging error of the SDS-TWR in the distance between mobile node and beacon node is measured to average 1m~8m by ranging experiments. But it is confirmed that the performance of the localization by the AEDR is better than that of the SDS-TWR 4 times in university auditorium and corridor, and the localization error of above 3~10m is reduced to average 2m and that of below 3m is reduced to average 1m respectively. It is concluded that the AEDR is superior to the NLOS(Non Line Of Sight) than LOS(Line Of Sight) in performance of ranging compensation for localization, and the AEDR is more helpful to localization systems practically considering the environment of sensor networks is under NLOS.

Design of a 2.4-GHz Fully Differential Zero-IF CMOS Receiver Employing a Novel Hybrid Balun for Wireless Sensor Network

  • A novel compact model for a five-port transformer balun is proposed for the efficient circuit design of hybrid balun. Compared to the conventional model, the proposed model provides much faster computation time and more reasonable values for the extracted parameters. The hybrid balun, realized in $0.18\;{\mu}m$ CMOS, achieves 2.8 dB higher gain and 1.9 dB lower noise figure than its passive counterpart only at a current consumption of 0.67 mA from 1.2 V supply. By employing the hybrid balun, a differential zero-IF receiver is designed in $0.18\;{\mu}m$ CMOS for IEEE 802.15.4 ZigBee applications. It is composed of a differential cascode LNA, passive mixers, and active RC filters. Comparative investigations on the three receiver designs, each employing the hybrid balun, a simple transformer balun, and an ideal balun, clearly demonstrate the advantages of the hybrid balun in fully differential CMOS RF receivers. The simulated results of the receiver with the hybrid balun show 33 dB of conversion gain, 4.2 dB of noise figure with 20 kHz of 1/f noise corner frequency, and -17.5 dBm of IIP3 at a current consumption of 5 mA from 1.8 V supply.

Performance Analysis and Evaluation of Hybrid Compensation Algorithm for Localization (하이브리드형 위치인식 보정 알고리즘 성능 분석 및 평가)

  • In this paper, the hybrid compensation algorithm($A_{HB}$) for localization using the Compensation Algorithm distance($CA_d$) and the Algorithm of Equivalent Distance Rate(AEDR) in SDS-TWR(Symmetric Double-Sided Two-Way Ranging) is suggested and the performance of the proposed algorithm is analyzed by practical experimentations. From experimentations, it is confirmed that the errors are reduced in 28 coordinates of total 32 coordinates in the experimental region and the errors are reduced about above 70% in the assigned 3 type error level ranges by $A_{HB}$. Also, it is analyzed that the average localization error is reduced from 2.67m to 1.19m as 55.4% in total 32 coordinates by $A_{HB}$ and the error compensation capability of $A_{HB}$ is very excellent as above 90%. From above results, we have seen that the error reduction ratio and error compensation capability of $A_{HB}$ is more excellent than each $CA_d$ or AEDR.

Ubiquitous Healthcare Monitoring System using APG Signals based on Wireless Sensor Network (무선센서네트워크 기반의 가속도 맥파를 이용한 유비쿼터스 헬스케어 모니터링 시스템)

  • This paper describes the realization of ubiquitous healthcare monitoring system using wearable pulse oximeter based on a wireless sensor network. In order to obtain information of oxygen saturation from a patient, a small size and low power consumption wearable pulse oximeter was designed. Information of oxygen saturation collected by wireless sensor node was transmitted wirelessly to a base-station for storage and display purposes via wireless sensor network. Wireless sensor nodes were programmed by TinyOS application to perform data acquisition and transmission. Lab VIEW server program was designed to monitor information of oxygen saturation and process the measured PPG (photo plethysmogram) signals to APG(Accelerated plethysmogram) signals by appling second order derivatives. PPG signals are simple and cost effective technique to measure blood volume change.
