  • In this paper, we proposed an frequency offset estimation scheme which can be used for packet based OFDM communication systems such as IEEE802.11a and IEEE802.11p physical layer. Proposed estimation scheme can adjust the gain allocation ratio between long training symbol and short training symbol while maintaining average power of overall training sequence so that we can obtain the reference parameters for MSE performance improvement. The preamble structure considered in this paper is based on the preamble specified in IEEE802.11a and IEEE802.11p standardization group. From the simulation results, it is shown that power ratio between long training symbol and short training symbol must vanes for achieving lower frequency offset estimation error as channel SNR condition is changed. Also it is known oat proposed scheme can achieve better performance than conventional one.

  • As the IEEE 802.11 WLAN has widely installed as a high-speed wireless network information infrastructure, there has been growing interest in both security and mobility of mobile terminals. However, for the case of mobile terminal employing IEEE 802.11i security standard, it is known that the user authentication procedure of IEEE 802.1x for stronger security enforcement may, due to its large delay, not be suitable for real-time multimedia communication. In this paper, we have proposed fast authentication method to resolve the above authentication delay problem, and verifies its performance via simulation analysis. Mobile terminals can get AP information reliably, and selectively execute authentication in advance during handover, which results in fast user authentication. In addition, by effectively managing the authentication information in mobile terminal, which are distributed in advance for pre-authentication, the problem of long-time revelation of authentication information has been solved.

  • In this paper, we propose a scheme that tunes the backoff period for enhancing the system throughput with estimating the number of devices in IEEE 802.15.4 slotted carrier sense multiple access with collision avoidance (CSMA/CA) networks. Since each device does not sense the channel always in IEEE 802.15.4 slotted CSMA/CA networks, a personal area network (PAN) coordinator is used to estimate the number of active devices. The PAN coordinator broadcasts an optimal backoff period for the estimated number of devices through a beacon frame. In order to estimate the number of devices in run time, a simple moving average filter is utilized. We show the performance of our proposed scheme in terms of the estimated number of devices and the system throughput. The simulation results show that our proposed scheme can obtain higher system throughput than the IEEE 802.15.4 standard.

  • An improved backoff algorithm for retransmission randomization for OFDMA/CDMA/slotted ALOHA used in the ranging subchannel of IEEE 802.16 network is proposed. Exploiting the fact that a base station coordinates channel access using UL-/DL-MAP in the IEEE 802.16 networks, we propose a minor modification of the existing IEEE 802.16 in order to increase throughput, decrease delay variation and achieve a graceful performance degradation in case of overload channel condition of the random access protocol. The algorithm basically estimates the number of backlogged users and arrival rate using which, the BS calculates retransmission probability for the subscriber stations involved in a collision. Computer simulation is performed to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm and to compare the performance with existing binary exponential backoff algorithm.

  • IEEE 802.15.4 is the one of the protocols for radio communication in a personal area network. Since it aims to provide low cost and low power communication for ubiquitous communication, it requires high level of optimization in implementation. Recently, there have been many studies on the performance evaluation of IEEE 802.15.4 MAC protocol. According to the results of the studies, it is tendency that the transceiver is implemented to SoC type. On the implementation, the specific functions of MAC like CSMA-CA and MAC frame handling is designed to hardwired functions. In this paper, we implemented the protocol with hardwired low MAC (HL-MAC) and its state machine for the optimization from the physical layer and MAC layer. it has the characteristics of the small code size and the enhanced power consumption.

  • This paper proposed Enhanced Segmentized Clear Channel Assesment(ESCCA) for the IEEE 802.15.4 networks. This method divides original CCA into two groups to check precise channel status and perform additional CCA to increase throughput performance. Through the proposed method, the device can access the channel more often, so the transmission efficiency of the IEEE 802.15.4 network improves. To confirm the feasibility and usability of the proposed method, computer simulation has been performed. In the simulation, a star topology with one coordinator and a lot of devices is considered and the traffic flows are all one way, with the communication directed to the coordinator. Simulation results_ show the proposed method is improving maximum 10 kbps of throughput and decreasing maximum 15 of the average number of total CCA than IEEE 802.15.4 CCA method.

  • In IEEE 802.11b wireless network, the access point(AP) sends beacons periodically to manage stations when they are running in low power mode. Stations contend for the transmission medium after they receive a beacon and continuously check its state until it becomes available. Thus the energy consumption of each station increases as the load of wireless network. In this paper, we propose a method to reduce energy consumption controlling virtual bitmap in wireless network with multiple stations. The problems of low power mode in IEEE 802.11b wireless interface are described and a new method to reduce energy consumption is proposed. The proposed method is simulated with the network simulator, ns2, and compared with the low power mode of the IEEE 802.11b. The result measured in terms of station's wakeup time shows some enhancement in energy consumption when multiple stations are communicating through the AP in wireless network.

  • The IEEE 802.1x can be using various user authentication mechanisms: One-Time Password, Certificate-Based TLS, Challenge/Response and Keberos through EAP(Extended Authentication Protocol). But, IEEE 802.1x also has vulnerabilities about the DoS, the session hijacking and the Man in the Middle attack due to the absence of AP authentication. In this paper, we propose a WLAN secure system which can offer a safety secure communication and a user authentications by intensified the vulnerability of spoofing and DoS attacks. The suppose system offers a safe secure communication because it offers sending message of integrity service and also it prevents DoS attack at authentication initial phase.

  • Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) based IEEE 802.11 a/g systems which are widely used in wireless LAN carry out channel estimation in one time per packet since the systems use only preamble. Whereas, midamble based channel estimation supports continuous channel estimation by tracking the channel state information periodically. Using IEEE 802.11p Wireless Access in Vehicular Environments (WAVE) system, we analyze the performance of the proposed system via practical measurements. Based on these results, practical issues on midamble based channel estimation are investigated.

  • IEEE 802.16 standard specifies the broadband wireless access (BWA) system including sleep mode to minimize the power consumption by a mobile station (MS). This paper outlines the overall operation of sleep mode and proposes a method to improve the power saving efficiency of the IEEE 802.16 sleep mode. The proposed method not only decreases the number of bytes that a MS in sleep mode needs to receive during listening interval but allows to indicate a control-specific operation such as periodic ranging.
