A High-resolution Seismic Survey on the Abandoned Tidal Flat in Shihwa Lake (시화호내 과거 조간대에서의 고해상 탄성파 탐사)

  • A high-resolution seismic survey was conducted on the abandoned tidal flat in Shihwa Lake on the west coast of Korea. A portable vibrator was used as a seismic source and 217 shot gathers with 48-channel system were acquired. F-k filtering, residual static corrections and post-stack frequency filtering are found to be useful for signal enhancement. The overburden is divided into two seismic depositional units. Unit I is deposited in tidal environment characterized by parallel and high continuity reflection pattern. This unit comprises a dry layer (Unit Ia) and a wet layer (Unit Ib) having averagely 5 and 15 meters thick, respectively. Unit II unconformably overlain by Unit I exhibits discontinuity and hummocky reflection pattern, indicating complex channel-fill sediments in estuary. The maximum thickness of this unit is approximately 20 meter. Acoustic basement is considered as Precambrian granitic gneiss occurred in the surrounding area.

  • With rapidly developing Internet applications, an e-mail has been considered as one of the most popular methods for exchanging information. The e-mail, however, has a serious problem that users ran receive a lot of unwanted e-mails, what we called, spam mails, which cause big problems economically as well as socially. In order to block and filter out the spam mails, many researchers and companies have performed many sorts of research on spam filtering. In general, users of e-mail have different criteria on deciding if an e-mail is spam or not. Furthermore, in e-mail client systems, users do different actions according to a spam mail or not. In this paper, we propose a mail filtering system using such user actions. The proposed system consists of two steps: One is an action inference step to draw user actions from an e-mail and the other is a mail classification step to decide if the e-mail is spam or not. All the two steps use incremental learning, of which an algorithm is IB2 of TiMBL. To evaluate the proposed system, we collect 12,000 mails of 12 persons. The accuracy is $81{\sim}93%$ according to each person. The proposed system outperforms, at about 14% on the average, a system that does not use any information about user actions.

Production of Enantiomerically Pure [R]-3-Hydroxybutyric acid by Metabolically Engineered Escherichia coli with Inducible System (Inducible System을 이용한 재조합 대장균으로부터 광학적으로 순수한 [R]-3-Hydroxybutyric acid 생산)

  • An inducible expression system of poly[(R)-3-hydroxybutyrate] (PHB) depolymerization was established in metabolically engineered Escherichia coli with the PHB biosynthesis genes. The Ralstonia eutropha PHB depolymerase gene was cloned in a vector system containing the PHB biosynthesis genes and expressed under inducible promoter. Recombinant E. coli harboring the PHB biosynthesis genes and depolymerase gene was first cultured for the accumulation of PHB, and then the depolymerase was expressed resulting in the degradation of accumulated PHB into (R)-3-hydroxybutyric acid (R3HB). R3HB could be produced with the concentration of 7.6 g/L in flask culture. Two different PHB biosynthesis genes from Alcaligenes latus and R. eutropha were compared for the production of R3HB. This strategy can be used for the production of enantiomerically pure (R)-hydroxycarboxylic acids with high concentration.

A Study on the Design of Ergonomic Bridge Conning Display (인간공학적 Bridge Conning Display 설계에 관한 연구)

  • According to the development of technology of the navigational equipments, many bridge equipments have been improved, however, marine accidents by human error have not been reduced. Therefore, a matter of primary concern is focused on whether bridge equipments of ships are ergonomically arranged to reduce errors due to human factors. As part of a design of IBS(Integrated Bridge System) standard, rules of the conning display to save time and additional movements to obtain important informations of a ship should be established as soon as possible. In the present study, ergonomic design factors for the conning display are studied through the survey of related works, heuristic evaluations, sketch method tests as well as questionnaires. Using these factors, new conning display was designed and the ergonomic indices were evaluated by comparing tests of the existing conning displays. It is found that the designed conning display obtained high ergonomic index showed better performance, therefore, the ergonomic index studied in the present paper can be used as a useful design standard in the conning display design procedures.

Electro-Optical Characteristics of the Ion-Beam-Aligned FFS-LCD on a Diamond-like-Carbon Thin Film

  • In this paper, we intend to make FFS mode cell with LC alignment used non-rubbing method, ion beam alignment method on the a-C:H thin film, to analyze electro-optical characteristics in this cell. We studied on the suitable inorganic thin film for FFS-LCD and the aligning capabilities of nematic liquid crystal (NLC) using the new alignment material of a-C:H thin film as working gas at rf bias condition. A high pretilt angle of about 5$^{\circ}$ by ion beam(IB) exposure on the a-C:H thin film surface was measured. An excellent voltage-transmittance (V-T) and response time curve of the ion-beam-aligned FFS-LCD was observed with oblique ion beam exposure on the DLC thin films.

  • According to office building design in Korea, building exterior and office automatic systems through introducing IB system have been improved. However, the lower floors of a building are functionally easy to transfer but actually functions as an enterance. Although at takes a large investment by the owner or enterprise, mainly the tenants and neighbors are in a broad sense the actual users. In this point of view, the lobby of an office bulidling which is the connection between the exterior as a public space and the interior as a private area, does not only have the function of an enterance but also has to be an image of the enterprise or the building itself. Therefor the lobby must contain various functions of space.

  • As using of network Increases rapidly, performance of system has been deteriorating because of the overhead and bottleneck. Nowadays, high speed I/O network standard, that is a sort of InfiniBand, PCI Express and so on, has come out to improve the limites of traditional I/O bus. The InfiniBand provides some protocols to service the applications such as SDP, SRP and IPoIB. In our paper, We explain the architecture of SDP(Socket Direct Protocol) and its features in channel based I/O network. And so, we provide a result of performance evaluation of SDP which is compared with current network protocol. Our experimental results also show that SDP is better than TCP/IP protocol.

  • 본 연구에서는 자동차 납축전지를 위한 지능형 배터리 센서(Intelligent Battery Sensor; IBS) 모듈 기능검사장비를 개발한다. 이를 위해 IBS 모듈에 대한 기능 및 특성평가를 위한 기능 검사 시스템을 구축하고 LABVIEW를 이용한 기능검사 프로그램을 개발한다. IBS를 이용한 감시 제어 시스템은 배터리의 상태를 모니터링하여 최적의 조건을 유지하고 문제 발생 시에 미리 조치할 수 있다. 배터리의 상태 파라미터로는 전압, 전류, 온도를 사용한다. 감시 제어 시스템은 PC를 이용하여 환경을 구축하였으며 LabView를 이용한 GUI(Graphic User Interface)를 구축하여 배터리 데이터를 모니터링하고 저장, 관리가 편리한 장점을 가진다.

  • KISTI의 GPU 클러스터 시스템인 뉴론은 NVIDIA의 A100과 V100 GPU가 총 260개 탑재되어 있는 클러스터 시스템이다. 뉴론의 계산노드들은 고성능의 인터커넥트인 Infiniband(IB) 케이블로 연결되어 있어 멀티 노드 작업 수행 시에 고대역 병렬통신이 가능하다. 본 논문에서는 NVIDIA사에서 제공하는 NCCL의 벤치마크 코드를 이용하여 인터커넥트 네트워크의 통신 성능을 비교분석하는 방안에 대해서 소개한다.

Type Ibc Supernova Progenitors in Binary Systems: Observational Constraints on the Progenitor Candidate of the Supernova iPTF13bvn

  • The progenitors of Type Ibc supernovae (SNe Ibc) have been believed to be massive Wolf-Rayet (WR) stars, formed either through stellar wind mass loss or Roche-lobe outflow in a binary system. But observations indicate that ordinary SNe Ibc have relatively low ejecta masses (~2 Msun), which is not compatible with the WR star scenario for SN Ibc progenitors. On the other hand, helium stars in binary systems which can be produced via mass transfer are also suggested as a possible candidate for SN Ibc progenitors. Binary star evolution models predict that SN Ibc progenitors having final masses of 3-7 Msun can be produced, but their observational properties are not well understood. In this study, we present the parameter study on the observational constraints of helium stars of 3-5 Msun in binary systems using evolutionary models and the atmospheric radiative transfer code CMFGEN. We present the predicted magnitudes and spectra of helium stars in optical bands for different wind velocity profiles and mass loss rates. We also present those observables of the progenitor binary system considering O-type companion stars. Based on the results, we discuss the expected observational properties of SN Ibc progenitors in binary systems. In particular, we discuss the constraints on the progenitor of the SN Ib iPTF13bvn of which progenitor candidate has been identified for the first time in pre-explosion images among SNe Ibc.
