  • This research is to collect, classify and identify the insects boring tunnels into wood or damaging wooden frame structure. Intensive insect collections have been carried at the historical local schools annexed to the confucian shrine from March to September 2001. Ten species of Coleoptera, 15 species of Hymenoptera, 6 species of Hemiptera, 4 species of Ditera and 1 species of Demaptera were recorded. Most species of Coleoptera and Hymenoptera have the manducatory apparatus in the mouth-part that cause severe damage in wood, and showed the highest population among the genera recorded. Further research should be considered on the identification of wood demage insects at the species level among present collection and their mechanism of wood demage in the wood.

  • In an effort to restore the amphibians in urban freshwater system the characteristics of feeding activity of Rana rugosa living in Gyeonggi-provinces (Yangpyeong-gun and Namyangju-si) was analyzed from 2013 to 2014. The stomach contents of R. rugosa was analyzed non-invasively and compared to organisms captured by sweeping and trapping in their habitat. As a result, Hymenoptera and Cleoptera were primarily preyed by R. rugosa. Particularly, the proportion of Formicidae was more than 98% among the preyed Hymenoptera. Trapped insects in the habitat of R. rugosa's in Namyangju were Hymenoptera (58%, Formicidae 99%), Collembola (17%), Orthoptera (10%) and Diptera (9%) in order in order. In Yangpyeong, trapped insects were Collembola (49%), Orthoptera (14%), Arachnida (9%), Diptera (9%), Cleoptera (7%) and Hymenoptera (3%). Even though Hemiptera and Diptera species are abundant in the streamside zones, R. rugosa could easily hunt Formicidae or Coleoptera on rocks or grassland at streamside. R. rugosa consume small sized ground-insects that are easily found rather than searching for the specific prey. Prey resource of urban stream may be not a limiting factor of R. rugosa inhabitation.

  • Four species of aphelinids from Unaspis euonymi (Comstock) infesting Japanese spindle (Euonymus japonicus Thunb. (Celastraceae)) leaves and twigs were collected and identified as Ablerus perspeciosus Girault, Encarsia citrina (Craw), Marietta carnesi (Howard) and Pteroptrix machiaveli (Girault). Of these, Pteroptrix machiaveli (Girault) is newly documented in the Korean fauna of Aphelinidae. Brief diagnostic criteria and illustrative photographs of these species are provided and there is information on the distribution and hosts of each species as well.

  • Pachynematus itoi Okutani, belonging to the family Tenthredinidae(Hymenoptera), which infested Larix kaempferi(Lamb.) Carriere in the middle areas of Korea, is reported for the first time from Korea. External characteristics of adults are briefly redescribed with photos. Also its damages and bionomic data are discussed.

  • The genus Blacus Nees is cosmopolitan genus of the subfamily Blacinae. The members of genus Blacus endoparasites of colepterous larvae: Staphylinidae, Nitidulidae, Cryptophagidae, Scolytidae, Anobiidae, Curculionidae and Melyridae. Previously, 13 Korean species of the genus have been investigated by several researchers. In this study, eight species of the genus Blacus are reported for the first time from Korea: Blacus apaches Achterberg, B. chabarovi Belokobylskij, B. compressus Belokobylskij, B. fischeri Haeselbarth, B. interstitialis Ruthe, B. mamillanus Ruthe, B. robustus Haeselbarth, and B. ussuriensis Belokobylskij. Diagnosis and host records are given for each species.

  • Doryctinae is a large and heterogeneous group with more than 1,000 described. It is idiobiont ectoparasitoids on the larvae of wood-boring and xylophagous beetles. Some species attack larvae of wood boring lepidoptera. In the present study, fifteen species belonging to eight genera of the subfamily Doryctinae are recorded for the first time from Korea: Doryctes Haliday (2 species), Eodendrus Belokobylskij (1 species), Heterospilus Haliday (4 species), Monolexis Förster (1 species), Neurocrassus Snoflak (2 species), Rhoptrocentrus Marshall (1 species), Sonanus Belokobylskij et Konishi (1 species), Spathius Nees (3 speices). The genera Eodendrus Belokobylskij, Monolexis Förster, Rhoptrocentrus Marshall, Sonanus Belokobylskij et Konishi and fifteen species are reported for the first times from Korea. Diagnosis and host information are provided.
