A Research on the Residual Pesticide Content of Dried Agricultural Products from Ulsan (울산지역 건조농산물 가공품의 잔류농약 분석)

  • This study was conducted to evaluate the safety of 208 types of residue pesticides on 150 dried agricultural products in Ulsan. The pesticide residues were detected using GC-MS/MS, LC-MS/MS, GC/ECD, GC/NPD, and LC/PDA. The detection rate was 19.3% (29 of 150 samples), and 28 types of pesticides were detected. Two of the 29 pesticide residues exceeded the maximum residue limit (MRL). Difenoconazole was detected in Ulleungdo aster, and chlorothalonil and chlorpyrifos were detected in chili pepper leaves. In the vegetable group, the frequency of pesticide residues was found to be the highest in dried leafy vegetables, followed by dried fruiting vegetables other than cucurbit vegetables, and then dried stalk and stem vegetables. The pesticide types detected in the commercial dried agricultural products were fungicide (60%), insecticide (23.8%), and acaricide (16.3%). In the validation study, the values of limit of detection (LOD), limit of quantitation (LOQ), coefficient of determination (R2), and recovery rate were in the range of 0.0001-0.0409 mg/kg, 0.0003-0.1241 mg/kg, 0.994-0.999, and 81.58-116.79%, respectively. The ratio of estimated daily intake (EDI)/acceptable daily intake (ADI) was 0.00002-0.31395%.

Estimating Recognition of Sanitation and Sanitary Education in School Food Service Employees from the Kyunggi Area (학교 급식 조리 종사원들의 위생 의식 및 교육 수행 평가 -경기 지역을 중심으로-)

  • This study investigated school food service employees' recognition of sanitation and sanitary education in the Kyunggi area of Korea. In terms of personal hygiene, over 90% of the food service employees acknowledged personal hygiene and regarded it as important. Inspection of personal hygiene before cooking occurred "everyday" (85.5%); however, 17.2% continued cooking after dissatisfactory personal hygiene was identified. The food service employees thought that contaminated food materials (35.3%) was the biggest cause of foodborne illness. Approximately 71.4% of the respondents answered that sanitation education and testing related to cooking were conducted "once every month". In addition, 56.4% answered that education on cooking sanitation was "lots of help" and 36.3% answered it was "very helpful". Upon examining the food service employees' awareness about cooking sanitation over 90% were aware of sanitary cooking methods, and 46.1% responded that their biggest difficulty in performing sanitary cooking procedures was excessive work duties due to a lack of food service employees.

Evauation of Hygienic Status of High School Foodservice using ATP Bioluminescence Assay & Microorganism Test Strips (ATP Bioluminescence와 간이미생물배지를 이용한 고등학교 급식시설의 위생상태 조사연구)

  • An investigation was conducted to evaluate the hygienic status of 33 high school foodservice systems in Yongin city by using hygiene management guide checklist, ATP bioluminescence assay and microbe inspection petrifilm (APC, coliform group, Staphylococcus aureus) of food utensils during use. The 22 hygiene management guide checklist items about facilities, personal hygiene, food control, distribution, washing and disinfection had good grade but there were some inadequate behaviors on observation. The inspection results showed their sanitary condition met the level B of the recommendation of Korea method, it means sanitary management system get settled but more practical CCP system was needed. ATP bioluminescence assay was conducted on surface of food facilities, ATP ranged 425~2,552 RLU on gloves, 541~70,251 RLU on apron, 1,596~88,490 RLU on working desk, 1,177~263,813 RLU on sterilizer grip, 715~32,814 RLU on sterilizer shelf, 114~619,725 RLU on refrigerator grip, 677~319,007 RLU on refrigerator shelf, 71~196,725 RLU on freezer grip, 1,535~233,375 RLU on freezer shelf. APC ranged $66.7{\pm}29.0CFU$ on freezer grip, $102.1{\pm}35.9CFU$ on refrigerator grip, $45.4{\pm}28.2CFU$ on heating cabinet grip, $58.8{\pm}40.4CFU$ on sterilizer grip, the number of coliform group ranged $5.6{\pm}4.9CFU$ on freezer grip, $9.1{\pm}8.7CFU$ on refrigerator grip, $1.2{\pm}1.1CFU$ on heating cabinet grip, $4.5{\pm}4.4CFU$ on sterilizer grip. S. aureus ranged $8.0{\pm}5.6CFU$ on freezer grip, $12.2{\pm}9.6CFU$ on refrigerator grip, $2.1{\pm}1.6CFU$ on heating cabinet grip, $11.6{\pm}6.4CFU$ on sterilizer grip.

Comparative Analysis of the Prerequisite Items Applicable to the HACCP in Livestock Processing Plants (축산물가공장 HACCP 선행요건 평가항목 개선을 위한 비교분석)

  • We analyze the HACCP Prerequisites of National Veterinary Research and Quarantine Service (NVRQS), Korea Food and Drug Administration(KFDA), and US Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) and recommend contents and ranges to be complemented and used for the preparation of guidelines. We used the HACCP Notice of the Processing Livestock Act, the HACCP Application Manual for Livestock Processing Plants, the HACCP Notice of the Food Sanitation Act, US GPO 9 CFR and 21 CFR, US FSIS Directive 11,000.1, and HACCP-based Inspection reference guide of Consumer Services, North Carolina Department of Agriculture. The Prerequisites of NVRQS and KFDA are composed of 66 and 84 items respectively, without detailed guidelines for their application. This may decisively affect the application in the field and the evaluation activities. Water supplies, washing and disinfection monitoring tools, and examining and correcting plan are required to be improved. If the standards of compliance of each Prerequisite item as well as performance guidelines are given, the application and evaluation will be performed more effectively. The evaluation items should be associated with Prerequisite operations such as non-compliance complement, self-evaluation, and record keeping. Hazards found during official inspection should be promptly controlled not to contaminate the work places and processing items. As the HACCP is expected to spread from farms to tables, the standardized Prerequisite program among the official governments should be prepared.

Recognition and performance of preschool teachers on children's oral health in Seoul (서울시 보육교사의 구강보건인식도 및 구강건강관리 행태)

  • Objectives : This study was performed to investigate the recognition of the educators in preschool education institutions on children's oral health promotion. Methods : The subjects of this study included 918 preschool teachers who have been performing an oral health education program for children at preschool centers in Seoul. For this study, the survey was conducted from September 2008 to November 2008 through a questionnaire. Results : It has been found that 58.5% of the given preschool institutions have implemented an oral health promotion program and 99.1% of the respondents recognized the importance of the oral health. 53.9% of the respondents used sweets as a reward for good deeds. Regarding the behaviors of oral health promotion, the daily tooth-brushing and the implementation of a regular oral check-up accounted for 69.0% and 59.5% respectively. The subjects recognized that they have responsibility for the tooth-brushing instruction(91.6%) and provision of an oral inspection(78.3%). It has been also found that the case of performing the oral health program with older age and higher work experiences was significantly high(p<0.05). Conclusions : The recognition and performance of kindergarten teachers on children's oral health affects daily life and healthful living habits of children. Therefore oral health education program for the teachers has to be developed.

Monitoring and Risk Assessment of Pesticide Residues Farmers' Market Produce in Northern Gyeonggi-do (경기 북부 내 직거래 농산물의 잔류농약 실태조사 및 위해성 평가)

  • In this study, we investigated pesticide residues in 207 agricultural products distributed by direct trade in the northern area of Gyeonggi Province. A total of 94 general agricultural products and 113 eco-friendly agricultural products collected from local grocers and cooperative stores were analyzed by multiresidue method for 263 pesticides using GC (gas chromatography)/ECD (electron capture detector), GC/NPD (nitrogen phosphorus detector), GC-MS/MS (tandem mass spectrometry), LC (liquid chromatography)/PDA (photodiode array detector), LC/FLD (fluorescence detector), LC-MS/MS. All samples showing pesticide residues were general agricultural products collected from local food stores. The pesticide residue levels of 14 samples (6.8%) were below the maximum residue limits (MRLs) and one of them (0.5%) exceeded the MRLs. Sixteen pesticides were detected from samples of the following produce items: spinach, young cabbage, perilla leaves, mallow, cucumber, chives and water dropwort. The safety of the detected pesticides was assessed by monitoring the daily intake estimate (EDI) and the daily intake allowance (ADI) based on the amount of pesticides detected. The ADI percentage range (the ratio of EDI to ADI) was 0.0134-61.6259% and there was no health risk connected with consuming agricultural products in which pesticide residues were detected.

A Safety Survey on Pesticide Residues in Dried Agricultural Products (건조농산물의 잔류농약 안전성 조사)

  • We performed a safety survey on residual pesticides in dried agricultural products. A total of 110 samples of dried agricultural products distributed in Gyeonggi-do were analyzed for 263 pesticides according to multi class pesiticide multiresidue method. Ten types of pesticides were detected in 10 samples. Chlorpyrifos was detected in Ricinus communis leaves, chlorpyrifos, hexaconazole, pyridalyl in Chwinamul (wild aster), diniconazole, isoprothiolane, lufenuron in radish leaves, hexaconazole in Cirsium setidens (Korean thistle), bifenthrin, and chlorothalonil, boscalid, and pyraclostrobin in pepper leaves. The detection rate of pesticides was 9.1%, and among these samples, one was detected over Maximum Residue Limits (MRLs). In the validation study, the values of limit of detection (LOD), limit of quantitation (LOQ), coefficient of determination ($R^2$) and recovery were in the range of 0.002~0.027 mg/kg, 0.006~0.083 mg/kg, 0.9964~1.0000 and 74.8~118.9%, respectively. The Positive List System (PLS) was newly introduced as part of the safety management of residual pesticide in agricultural products in Korea in 2019. With the application of the PLS, if the MRL is not established, 0.01 mg/kg limit is applied uniformly. In spite, these of strengthened residue limits, the MRLs of dried agricultural products are still insufficient. Therefore, this study could be utilized as basic data for the setting of proper MRLs.

Dissipation of Bifenthrin and Chlorothalonil in Crown Daisy during Cultivation and their Biological Half-lives (쑥갓 중 bifenthrin과 chlorothalonil의 경시적 잔류량 변화 및 생물학적 반감기)

  • This study investigated the residual characteristics of bifenthrin and chlorothalonil in crown daisy and suggested pre-harvest residue limits (PHRLs) based on their dissipation patterns and biological half-lives. The samples for residue analysis were harvested at 0 (3 hr), 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 15, 18, 22 and 26 days after treatment, and analyzed by $GC/{\mu}-ECD$ and TOF/MS. The limit of quantitation (LOQs) of bifenthrin and chlorothalonil were 0.0046 mg/kg and 0.0007 mg/kg, respectively. Recoveries ranged from $88.67{\pm}7.97%$ and $99.90{\pm}16.03%$, showing that this method is appropriate for the analysis of the pesticide residues in crown daisy. Being well within first order kinetics, the biological half-lives of the pesticide residues in crown daisy were 9.63 days for bifenthrin and 6.54 days for chlorothalonil. The PHRLs of bifenthrin and chlorothalonil were recommended as 11.70 mg/kg and 24.10 mg/kg for 26 days before harvest, respectively.

Monitoring Pesticide Residues in Commercial Dried Red Peppers and Pepper Powders (유통 건고추와 고춧가루의 잔류농약 안전성 조사)

  • Pesticide residues were monitored in dried red pepper and pepper powder samples purchased in Northern Gyeonggi-do and from domestic online markets. The QuEChERS method was used to prepare 88 samples. GC-MS/MS and LC-MS/MS were used to analyze 338 pesticide residues. In the study, pesticide residues were detected in 70 samples (79.5%), with residues exceeding the maximum residue limits (MRL) in 4 samples (4.5%). Pesticide levels exceeded the MRL in imported samples, with two samples of dried red pepper and two samples of pepper powder showing elevated levels. Among the 61 pesticides detected, tebuconazole, a fungicide was most frequently detected (52 times). Tricyclazole, which is used to control the main disease affecting rice, exceeding the MRL in 3 of 12 Vietnam-origin samples. Ethion exceeded the MRL in one Indian-origin sample. Both tricyclazole and ethion are banned for use in pepper products in Korea and are regulated under the positive list system (PLS). Conversely, pesticides detected in domestic samples were within the MRLs. Therefore, authorities should monitor pesticide residues in imported red pepper products.

A Study on Practice of Infection Control among Dental Staffs in Dental Office (치과진료실에서의 직종별 감염방지 실천 정도에 관한 조사 연구)

  • To investigate the actual conditions management of infectious prevention in dental office, questionnaire about infection control and education of infection control was performed on 50 dentists, 176 dental hygienists, 100 aide nurses who are working in Deagu City from march to April, 2007. The results are as the following. Dentists are the highest on the health inspection's ratio, dental hygienists are the highest on vaccination's ratio. Experience ratio about education of infection control is the highest on dentist and the lowest on aide nurses(p < 0.05). Dental hygienists are higher than dentists and aide nurses on ratio of wearing protective gear(p < 0.05). Dentists have the highest ratio on washing hands after treat(p < 0.05). Practice of instrument's sterilization is higher in dental hygienist than other groups. Disinfection of equipment's surface practice mainly on bracket table, dental hygienist's ratio is the highest among the three groups.
