The progress in the field of electronic materials has been especially significant for applications involving a range of electrical properties. Its importance is increasing with the increasing demand for integrated circuits. The sol-gel technique has been used for many years, and the metal alkoxides have featured prominently as source materials. The method consist of making a homogeneous solution of the component metal alkoxides in a suitable solvent, usually the parent alcohol; and then causing the hydrolysis under controlled conditions to produce a gel containing the hydrated metal oxide. The gel is then dried, and fired to produce a ceramic or glassy material at a temperature much lower than that required by the conventional melting process. This project consists of important theoretical considerations, processing techniques and applications related to electrophoresis derived thin films. In the electrophoretic process a metal alkoxide solution is gelled through hydrolysis-polymerization and converted the gel thin layer to an oxide by heating at relatively low temperatures.
Solvolyses of methanesulfonyl chloride (CH3SO2Cl) in water and methanol have been studied theoretically using ab initio self-consistent reaction field (SCRF) molecular orbital method. All stationary structures including transition state on the potential energy surface in solution have been found and compared with the gas phase structures. The overall reaction occurs via a concerted SN2 mechanism with a non-cyclic trigonal bipyramidal transition state, and the activation barrier is lowered significantly in solution. The transition state for the hydrolysis reaction is looser than that for the methanolysis reaction, and this is in accord with the experimental findings that an SN2 type mechanism, which is shifted toward an SN1 process or an SAN process in the hydrolysis and alcoholysis reaction, respectively, takes place. The catalytic role of additional solvent molecules appears to be a purely general-base catalysis based on the linear transition structures. Experimental barrier can be estimated by taking into account the desolvation energy of nucleophile in the reaction of methanesulfonyl chloride with bulk solvent cluster as a nucleophile.

High hydrostatic pressure and enzymatic hydrolysis (HPEH) was applied to anchovy in order to produce a natural seasoning ingredient. Total soluble solid, amino nitrogen, total nitrogen and the degree of hydrolysis of anchovy hydrolysates were investigated depending on the process parameters such as temperature, pressure, enzyme concentration and enzyme type. The optimal condition for anchovy hydrolysis was confirmed as temperature 50$^{\circ}C$, reaction time 24 hrs, pressure 50 MPa and enzyme concentration 0.6% in HPEH treatment. HPEH treatment showed more effective in overall properties of anchovy hydrolysis than those of control. All anchovy hydrolysates produced by HPEH treatment were increased more 1.5-2.6 times of total free amino acid than that of control. From these results, the HPEH treatment appears to be an effective and economic process to produce a natural seasoning ingredients.
Fe/$SiO_2$ core-shell type composite nanoparticles have been synthesized using a reverse micelle process combined with metal alkoxide hydrolysis and condensation. Nano-sized $SiO_2$ composite particles with a core-shell structure were prepared by arrested precipitation of Fe clusters in reverse micelles, followed by hydrolysis and condensation of organometallic precursors in micro-emulsion matrices. Microstructural and chemical analyses of Fe/$SiO_2$ core-shell type composite nanoparticles were carried out by TEM and EDS. The size of the particles and the thickness of the coating could be controlled by manipulating the relative rates of the hydrolysis and condensation reaction of TEOS within the micro-emulsion. The water/surfactant molar ratio influenced the Fe particle distribution of the core-shell composite particles, and the distribution of Fe particles was broadened as R increased. The particle size of Fe increased linearly with increasing $FeNO_3$ solution concentration. The average size of the cluster was found to depend on the micelle size, the nature of the solvent, and the concentration of the reagent. The average size of synthesized Fe/$SiO_2$ core-shell type composite nanoparticles was in a range of 10-30 nm and Fe particles were 1.5-7 nm in size. The effects of synthesis parameters, such as the molar ratio of water to TEOS and the molar ratio of water to surfactant, are discussed.
Sodium borohydride,$NaBH_4$, has many advantages as hydrogen source for portable proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFC). When PEMFC is used for marine use, $NaBH_4$ hydrolysis using seawater is economical. Therefore, in this study, hydrogen was generated by using seawater instead of distilled water in the process of hydrolysis of $NaBH_4$. Properties of $NaBH_4$ hydrolysis reaction using activated carbon supported Co-B/C catalyst were studied. The yield of hydrogen decreased as $NaBH_4$ concentration and NaOH concentration were increased during $NaBH_4$ hydrolysis using sea water. At higher concentrations of $NaBH_4$ and NaOH, byproducts adhered to the surface of the catalyst after hydrolysis reaction using sea water, reduced hydrogen yield compared to distilled water. The activation energy of $NaBH_4$ hydrolysis is 59.3, 74.4 kJ/mol for distilled water and sea water, respectively. In order to increase the hydrogen generation rate in seawater as high as distilled water, the reaction temperature has to be increased by $80^{\circ}C$ or more.

The effect of surfactant on the hydrolysis of used newspaper was investigated. The most suitable surfactant for the pretreatment stage was found to be NP-series surfactants among 9 kinds of non ionic surfactants. Process parameters such as surfactant concentration, mixing speed, pretreatment temperature and time were tested to optimize for maximum digestibility and 0.5%, 100rpm, 30$^{\circ}C$, and 1 h were found to be optimum, respectively. In order to maximize digestibility, substrate was pretreated with NP-20 and then the pretreated substrate was hydrolyzed by adding TW-80. The effect of surfactant on the hydrolysis of previously surfactant-pretreated newspaper was marginal. Therefore, the digestibility with the addition order of enzyme and surfactant was investigated by using surfactant only in hydrolysis stage. The results show that digestibility was more lowered as the surfactant addition after adding enzyme to substrate was more delayed.
The $Al_2O_3$ with various phases were prepared by simple ex-situ hydrolysis and spark plasma sintering (SPS) process of Al powder. The nano bayerite $(\beta-Al(OH)_3)$ phase was derived by hydrolysis of commercial powder of Al with micrometer size, whereas the bohemite (AlO(OH)) phase was obtained by hydrolysis of nano Al powder synthesized by pulsed wire evaporation (PWE) method. Compaction as well as dehydration of both nano bayerite and bohemite was carried out simultaneously by SPS method, which is used to fabricate dense powder compacts with a rapid heating rate of $100^{\circ}C$ per min. under the pressure of 50MPa. After compaction treatment in the temperature ranges from $100^{\circ}C\;to\; 1100^{\circ}C$, the bayerite and bohemite phases change into various alumina phases depending on the compaction temperatures. The bayerite shows phase transition of $Al(OH)_3{\to}{\eta}-Al_2O_3{\to}{\theta}-Al_2O_3{\to}\alpha-Al_2O_3$ sequences. On the other hand, the bohemite experiences the phase transition from AlO(OH) to ${\gamma}-Al_2O_3\;at\;350^{\circ}C.$ It shows AlO(OH) ${\gamma}-Al_2O_3{\to}{\delta}-Al_2O_3{\to}{\alpha}-Al_2O_3$ sequences. The ${\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ compacted at $550^{\circ}C$ shows a high surface area $(138m^2/g)$.
Physical and chemical barriers, caused by the close association of the main components of cellulosic biomass, hinder the hydrolysis of cellulose to fermentable sugars. Since the main goal of pretreatment is to increase the enzyme accessibility improving digestibility of cellulose, development of an effective pretreatment process has been considered to be important. In this study, SAA (Soaking in Aqueous Ammonia) was chosen as pretreatment because this is the simple and low-cost method. Rice straw of which the production is outstandingly high in domestic agriculture residues in Korea was chosen as raw material. SSA pretreatment with various reaction time of 3 h to 72 h was tested. The enzymatic hydrolysis and SSF (Simultaneous Saccharification and Fermentation) were performed at three different temperature (30, 40 and $50^{\circ}C$) to investigate performance of SSF upon various pretreatment conditions. As a result, this SAA treated-rice straw was found to have great potential for effective enzymatic hydrolysis and SSF with lower enzyme dosage at lower temperature ($30^{\circ}C$) than its conventional SSF. In SAA addition, SAA reduced fermentation time to 24 h owing to increase the initial hydrolysis rate substantially.

Total phosphorus contents in rice bran and soybean meal were determined to be 5.81 and $2.77\%$, respectively, and $97.2\%$ of phosphorus in rice bran and $66.4\%$ in soybean meal were presented as phytate phosphorus. Optimum pH condition for hydrolysis of phytate in rice bran and soybean was determined to be in the pH range of 3.7 and 5.3. The highest activity of phytase for hydrolysis of phytate in both samples was determined to be at $55^{\circ}C$ for rice bran and $55-60^{\circ}C$ for soybean. Hydrolysis of phytate in soybean meal at pH 5.0 increased with the co-reaction or consecutive reaction with protease; however, in rice bran hydrolysis decreased with co-reaction with protease. Phytate degradation of soybean meal in the presence of pepsin at pH 2.5 showed higher than that of rice bran. Phytate degradation of rice bran in the presence of trypsin or pancreatin at pH 7.0 increased the activity around 2-times compared with the activity in the absence of trypsin or pancreatin. The results of this study suggest that hydrolysis of phytate in rice bran or soybean meal with phytase and protease may provide an alternative process for the preparation of aquacultural feed with a low level of organic phosphorus.
Biological conversion of biomass into fuels and chemicals requires hydrolysis of the polysaccharide fraction into monomeric sugars. Hydrolysis can be performed enzymatically, and with dilute or concentrate mineral acids. In this study, dilute sulfuric acid used as a catalyst for the hydrolysis of rapeseed straw. The purpose of this study is to optimize the hydrolysis process in a 15ml bomb tube reactor and investigate the effects of the acid concentration, temperature and reaction time on the hemicellulose removal and consequently on the production of sugars (xylose, glucose and arabinose) as well as on the formation of by-products (furfural, 5-hydroxymethylfurfural and acetic acid). Statistical analysis was based on a model composition corresponding to a $3^3$ orthogonal factorial design and employed the response surface methodology (RSM) to optimize the hydrolysis conditions, aiming to attain maximum xylose extraction from hemicellulose of rapeseed straw. The obtained optimum conditions were: acid concentration of 0.77%, temperature of $164^{\circ}C$ with a reaction time of 18min. Under these conditions, 75.94% of the total xylose was removed and the hydrolysate contained 0.65g $L^{-1}$ Glucose, 0.36g $L^{-1}$ Arabinose, 3.59g $L^{-1}$ Xylose, 0.51g $L^{-1}$ Furfural, 1.36g $L^{-1}$ Acetic acid, and 0.08g $L^{-1}$ 5-hydroxymethylfurfural.
