We prepared hydrophobic silica particles by a sol-gel process from tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS), followed by coupling the reaction with octyltrimethoxysilane (OTMS) or hexadecyltrimethoxysilane (HDTMS) under various reaction conditions. We confirmed the extent of silica surface modification with organic compounds by SEM-EDS, thermogravimetry and elemental analysis. The silica particles obtained after the hydrolysis reaction of TEOS in ethanol at $50^{\circ}C$ for 24 h and the coupling reaction with OTMS for 2 h at the same temperature displayed the optimum performance in terms of the dispersity in an organic solvent and the surface roughness of films composited with epoxy resins. The oxygen permeability of the composite film with modified-silica was 12% lower than that of using the film without modified-silica.
Enzymes are important class of catalyst for biotransformation. Stability and reusability of enzymes during the catalysis process is a key issue. Activity of enzyme can be enhanced by its immobilization on a suitable substrate by creation of specific microenvironment. A variety of membranes has been used as substrate due to the biocompatibility and simpler method to tune hydrophilicity/hydrophobicity property of the membrane surface. In this review, polymer membranes including cellulose, polyacrylonitrile (PAN), polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS), polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF), polyethersulfone (PES) are introduced and discussed in detail. Biodegradation of organic contaminants by immobilized enzyme is an environmental friendly process to reduce the contamination of environment in pharmaceutical company and textile industries. The controlled hydrolysis of oil can be performed in enzyme immobilized membrane bioreactor (EMBR), resulting in reducing carbon emission and reduced environmental pollution. Bioethanol and biodiesel are considered alternative fossil fuels that can be prepared in EMBR.
The principal objective of this study was to assess the effects of various manufacturing conditions of soy sauce containing hydrolyzed vegetable protein (HVP) (HVP-soy sauce) on 3-monochloropropane-1,2-diol (3-MCPD) contents. Various HVP soy sauces were prepared under different conditions of alkaline treatment and retention process. Derivatives of heptafluorobutylimidazole (HFBI) 3-MCPD were determined via GC/MS below $0.010{\mu}g/g$, which was sensitive with a good recovery rate. The quantity of 3-MCPD decreased with the pH and temperature of alkaline treatment, and the time and temperature of the retention process increased. Alkaline treatment at pH 10.0-10.5 and a 72 hr retention process were shown to reduce effectively the 3-MCPD contents of HVP-soy sauces. This result indicates that the manufacturing process, particularly alkaline treatment, and retention process would be critical steps in managing 3-MCPD contents in HVP-soy sauce.
Lignocellulosic biomass is essential to pretreatment because of having rigid structures and a lot of lignin. Among methods of pretreatment, using THF solvents has the advantage of being easy to reuse. THF (Tetrahydrofuran) used as a co-solvent with water or ionic solvent that is inexpensive and can remove lignin over a wide range of reaction conditions. NaOH (Sodium hydroxide) has been demonstrated to preferentially solvate lignin from cellulose. Thus, NaOH was used as a pretreatment co-solvent for the fractionation of lignin by destroying the ether bond to amend for hydrolysis and expand the surface area of cellulose and hemicellulose. In this experiment, lignin was removed by the NaOH/THF co-solvent pretreatment process to characteristics for the pretreatment and obtain the optimal levulinic acid conversion yield through the acid catalyst conversion process. the NaOH/THF co-solvent system was conducted in various ratios of co-solvent under a total of 16 conditions. And the temperature was 180 ℃ during to 60 mins. The optimum condition of co-solvent is NaOH 5 wt%/THF 90:10(v/v%), 76.8% glucan content was obtained through this co-solvent pretreatment, and 90.1% lignin was removed. In the acid catalyst conversion process, which is a subsequent pretreatment process, the experiment was conducted under the conditions of 30 to 90 min of reaction time and 160 ℃ to 200 ℃ reaction temperature. The optimum condition of acid catalyst conversion process is 60min reaction time under of 180 ℃, and it obtained 84.7% of levulinic aicd conversion yield.

To examine of possibility protein recycling of shaving scraps contained chrome generated from manufacturing process of leather, the characteristics of hydrolyzed protein that differently treated with MgO as alkaline agent were investigated. In alkaline hydrolysis of saving scraps treated with MgO, MgO had to be treated over 5.0% to maintain over pH 8.0 that is insoluble of chrome. Under the condition of alkaline treated with MgO, the solubility of chrome is low with about 60%. The average molecular weight of hydrolyzed proteins from shaving scraps treated with MgO was about 80~100 KD. The amino acid contents of that were largely collagen proteins such as glycine, alanine and proline, and acidic amino acids such as aspartic acid and glutatamic acid. The contents of Mg, Ca and Na in hydrolyzed protein were too much as liquid fertilizer, and chrome contents was 30~40 ppm that largely decreased in comparing with raw materials (40,000~42,000 ppm).

Biogas yields point of view, the possibility of reusing excess sludge treated by thermal pretreatment for the purpose of improving the efficiency of the anaerobic digestion process has been investigated in recent year. Thermal pretreatment technology was considered as a pretreatment technique to improve excess sludge properties because of the solubilization of particulate organics. As a view point of sludge reduction and recycle, however, many researchers focused on the ability of particulate hydrolysis and COD solubilization under a high temperature, and few reports have addressed on the physical/chemical characteristics changing. This research was performed to evaluate the effects of a various temperature and chemical additives on carbon formation and fractionation in treated slurry from thermal pretreatment. Based on the results, it was revealed that oxidants injection and temperature changing have significantly caused the change of carbon fractions in slurry from thermal pretreament. Especially, it was considered that the efficiencies of particle hydrolysis increased with the increase of the reaction temperature. Low molecular weight(Mw < 350 g/mol) organic carbon formation increased with the increase of oxidants injection. It was expected that results of this research will provide an overview of the characteristics of thermal pretreatement for excess sludge reduction and recycle.
This study was conducted to find the physico-chemical properties and the amino acid content of the pigs hoof hydrolysate, keratin protein and to investigate its fertilizer effect on the growth of crops. The keratin proteins such as pigs hoof were alkali-hydrolyzed to produce the hydrolysates. The chemical properties of the hydrolysate of pigs hoof was 6~7 of pH and $10{\sim}15dS\;m^{-1}$ of EC. Total amino acid contents released from the pigs hoof were 10.18%, respectively. The pot experiment was carried out for the cultivation of lettuce. The treatment design of these pot cultivation was composed of Control (compost + NPK), PHH-0.5, PHH-1.0, PHH-2.0 (${\times}2,000$ ; 1,000 ; 500 diluted solution of pig hoof hydrolysate). After lettuce cultivation, the pH values in all treatment soils were decreased than those in initial soils, and the exchangeable cation value was higher than that of control. In all PHH treatments, lettuce growth was better in the leaf length by 6~16% and the leaf width by 4~15% than in control. Therefore, the PHH solutions manufactured by hydrolysis process had plenty of amino acids, and among them PHH had the most abundant nutrients and amino acids with highest growth and yield effect on lettuce.
Enzymatic hydrolysis of the substrate from Alnus hirsuta (Spach) Rupr (8-14years) was investigated using cellulase preparations of Trichoderma viride Pers. ex. Fr. SANK 16374 and conduced on the optimum reaction conditions of the cellulase on saccharification. The crude cellulase was produced by the submerged culture process and produced in the culture fluid was salted out quantitatively by the use of ammonium sulfate. The method of delignification from wood(Saw dust) was treated by the peracetic acid (PA) method. Reducing sugar was determined by the dinitrosalicylic acid (DNS) method. The results were summerized as follows; 1. The optimum pH of cellulase was 5.0 and the range of stability with respect to pH was generally from 4.0 to 6.0 2. The optimum temperature of cellulase was generally $40^{\circ}C$, but reducing sugar formation did not show significent differences at 5% levels in the reaction temperature from $40^{\circ}C$ to $50^{\circ}C$. 3. The redusing sugar were increased with increase of cellulase concentration. 4. The reducing sugar were decreased with increase of substrate concentration. 5. Fructose was a very good inhibitor of the enzyme from Trichoderma viride, but glucose inhibition was generally weak.

This study investigated characteristics of decomposition of tetrabutoxysilane (TBOS) as a slow release substrate (SRS) and on effect of TBOS decompostion compounds (acetate and butylate) for anaerobic dechlorination of trichloroethylene (TCE). In the batch experiment, TCE, cis-dichloroethene (cis-DCE), 1-butanol and TBOS were analysed by GC/FID and acetate and butylate were measured by HPLC. 1M of TBOS transferred and accumulated 4M of 1-butanol by abiotically hydrolysis reaction. The hydrolysis rate was in a range of 0.186 ${\mu}M/day$. On other hand, 1-butanol fermented to butyrate and acetate with indigenous culture from natural sediments. This results showed that TBOS could be used a slow release substrate in the natural sites. The dechlorinated potential of TCE with acetate and butyrate was increased with a decreasing initial TCE concentrations. In addition, first order coefficients of dechlorination with acetate as electron donor was higher then that with butyrate. It is because that dechlorination of Geobacter lovleyi was affected by substrate affinity, biodegradability and microbial acclimation on various substrates. However, dechlorinated potential of Geobacter lovleyi was decreased with accumulation cis-DCE in the anaerobic decholoronation process. The overall results indicated that SRS with Geobacter lovleyi might be a promising material for enhancing dechlorination of TCE on natural site and cis-DCE should be treated by ZVI as reductive material or by coexisting other dechlorinated bacteria.

This study was carried out to develope a pre-treatment technology for anaerobic digestion. Breaking down large particles into smaller particles enhances the performance of anaerobic digestion by increasing the hydrolysis of particles. A degree of hydrolysis is the most important factor determining the overall efficiency of methane production. Three types of pre-treatment devices (blade-type crusher, ozonization system, cavitation system) were set up and operated to crush solids in pig slurry in order to enhance biodegradability. The effect of pre-treatment on decreasing granular size within pig slurry by three experimental devices were compared. The highest performance of granulization of pig slurry was attained in a combination of blade-type crusher and ozonization system. In batch experiment, there was an improvement of the methane potential by combined pretreatment with crusher and cavitation. In case of pre-treated slurry, biogas and methane production were 325.9 L and 59.7% respectively, while, in untreated slurry, the production were lower; 298.8 L and 55.7%, respectively. These results indicate that higher anaerobic digestion efficiency of pig slurry can be obtained through the pre-treatment.
