The high-pressure hydrogen valve is intended to supply hydrogen charged at high pressure in the hydrogen tank to the fuel cell stack, which decompresses high-pressure hydrogen gas to low pressure and primarily limits the excessive flow. It consists of a pilot valve, a main valve, and a excessive flow valve to operate in a wide pressure range from 2 to 70 MPa of charging pressure. The opening characteristics of the valve were confirmed by computation fluid dynamics applying the moving grid technique. The behavior of the valve was predicted by predicting the force acting on the valve over time. In addition, the difference in behavior according to supply pressure was compared.
Recently, a study on alternative and renewable energy is being conducted due to energy depletion and environmental problems. In particular, a hydrogen has the advantage of converting and storing the remaining energy into water-electrolyzed hydrogen through renewable energy generation. In general, due to reasons such as insulation problems, a study on high-pressure hydrogen storage tanks and related parts has recently been conducted. However, in the case of liquid hydrogen, the volume can be reduced by about 800 times or more compared to high-pressure hydrogen gas, so the study on this is needed as a technology that can increase energy density. In this study, the evaporation characteristics were analyzed under fixed heat flux conditions for liquid hydrogen storage tanks and the change in thermal stratification according to sloshing was analyzed. The heat flux condition was fixed at 250 W/m2 and the horizontal resonance frequency of the primary mode was applied to the storage tank. As a result, it was confirmed that the thermal stratification phenomenon decreased compared to the case where the slashing was not present due to forced convection when the slashing was present.
The hydrogen fuel tanks having hydrogen storing capacity of about 300g and 1200g are manufactured using $MmNi_{4.7}Al_{0.25}V_{0.05}Fe_{0.001}$ alloy. They are composed of several unit reactor made of Cu-tube(outer diameter = 50.1mm, thickness = 2mm). In order to increase the heat and mass transfer property of the hydride bed, Al-plates are inserted perpendicular to axial direction at intervals of 5mm and three arteries of diameter 8mm are installed symmetrically in each unit reactor. Hydrogen absorption is proceeded about 80% within 30 minute and is completed within 60 minute at the conditions of charging hydrogen pressure of 25atm and temperature of $22^{\circ}C$. On desorbing hydrogen at a constant rate of 30 slm at $20^{\circ}C$, discharging hydrogen pressure is sustained at 3~5atm for 120 minutes. The discharging pressure is increased upto 5~8atm as the increase of the reactor temperature to $30^{\circ}C$. From the experimental results and the brief discussions about the hydrogen absorption and disorption behaviors of the hydrogen storage tank, it is suggested that the behaviors of hydrogen charging and discharging could be controlled by adjusting the operating parameters and the reactor design parameters.
In this study, design parameter exploration based on finite element analysis was performed to find the optimal shape of bellows, the key component of compressor-embedded refueling tank for a newly developed hydrogen refueling station capable of high-pressure charging above 900 bar. In the design parametric study, the design variables took into account the bellows shapes such as contour radius and span spacing, and the response factors were set to the maximum stress and the gap in the contact direction. In the shape design of the compressor bellows for hydrogen refueling station considered in this study, it was found that adjusting the contour span is an appropriate design method to improve the compression performance and structural safety. From the selection of optimal design, the maximum stress was reduced to 49% compared to the initial design without exceeding the material yield stress.
Hydrogen utilization in the transportation sector, which relies on fossil fuels, can significantly reduce greenhouse gas by using to hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, and its adoption depends performance of hydrogen refueling station. The present study developed a model to simulate the back-to-back filling process of heavy duty hydrogen fuel cell vehicles at hydrogen refueling stations using a cascade method. And its quantitatively evaluated hydrogen refueling station performance by simulating various mass flow rates and storage tank capacity combinations, analyzing vehicle state of charge (SOC) of vehicles. In the cascade refueling system, the capacity of the high-pressure storage tank was found to have the greatest impact on the reduction of filling time and improvement of efficiency.
