Various hydration treatments have been devised to improve the rate and univormity of seed germination as well as seed viability. Hydropriming and priming, the imbibitaion of seeds in distilled water and osmotic solutions, respectively, are useful techniques for early establishment of uniform seedlings. In this study, the optimum conditions were determined for hysropriming of cucumber seeds. Effects of hydropriming were also compared to those of osmotic priming. Seeds, hydroprimed with distilled water and primed with 50 mM $NaNO_3$at 20 for 24 hour, showd shorter number of days required to reach 50% of the final germination percentage ($T_{50}$), and mean number of days to germinate (MDG) that those untreated seeds. Hydroprimed with 10 mL distilled water showed better results in improving the rate of germination thatn other treatments tested. Hydropriming of the aged seeds improved germination percentage at 15$^{\circ}C$ and 25$^{\circ}C$. The $T_{50}$ and MDG values were reduced significantly by hydropriming of the aged seeds regardless of germination temperature. In addition to being simple and inexpensive, the hydropriming resulted in early germination at low temperature. he hydropriming was also effective in increase of germination percentage and normal seedlings.
The $^1H-nmr$ lineshapes of $H_2O$ in the solution containing $Al^{3+}$ ion have been measured as a function of temperature and $H^+$-ion concentration. Above [$H^+$] = 0.06, the lineshape were analyzed by the uncoupled two-site exchange model. From the proton exchange rate between hexaaquaaluminium ion and bulk water as a function of H-ion concentration. These kinetic data could be fitted to a following linear rate law; that is; 1/${\tau}$ = k$_1$/12 + $k_2$[$H^+$]/6. The following proton exchange parameters were obtained; $k_1^{298}$ = 38.5s$^{-1}$${\{Delta}H_1^{\neq}$ = $42.9kJ mole^{-1}$${\{Delta}S_1^{\neq}$ = -48.6J $mole^{-1}K^{-1}$$k_2^{298}$ = $172s^{-1}mole^{-1}$${\{Delta}H_2^{\neq}$ = 27.8kJ $mole^{-1}$${\{Delta}S_2^{\neq}$ = -90.3J $mole^{-1}K^{-1}$ These activation parameters are indicating an associative interchange, Ia, mechanism for the acid-hydrolysis of hexaaquaaluminium ion and the proton exchange between the hydration spheres of $Al^{3+}$ and $H^+$.

This study conducted a series of studies to offer a novel method of using CBS-dust that produced as by-product in the manufacture of cement. Four different contents of BS and CBS-dust were adopted for test parameters of this study. Mortar with 50% of W/B was fabricated. First, in the case of the fresh mortar, the flow decreased as the CBS-dust replacement rate increased, but the binder composition ratio BS 45% and 65% showed higher fl ow than Pl ain when repl acing CBS-dust 5%. In the case of air content, overall, the tendency was proportional to the CBS-dust replacement rate, and chloride tended to exceed the reference value at all replacement rates except for the CBS-dust 0% replacement. The compressive strength of the hardened mortar shows the resul t that the strength is improved when the CBS-dust is repl aced by 5% to 10%, and the CSH gel and structure formation is confirmed by microstructure analysis through the hydration reaction when the CBS-dust is replaced. Therefore, for a given condition CBS-dust is used as a early-strength admixture in a concrete secondary product that uses a large amount of admixture without reinforcing bars it can be an effective method for enhancing the strength of concrete as an alkali activator.
In the present study, the multiple light scattering method was used for analysis of early hardening behavior of natural hydraulic lime (NHL) containing inorganic additives. In order to improve the properties of self-manufactured NHL, blast furnace slag and three types of gypsum were mixed with mixing ratio, and a water/solid ratio of fresh NHL paste was fixed 0.6. The fresh pastes in flat-bottomed cylindrical glass tubes were placed in the instrument. The backscattering flux (BS) of light from fresh pastes was then periodically measured at 10 minutes intervals the entire length of the sample (55mm) at $23^{\circ}C$ for 24 hours. The rate of increase of BS, slope of a linear equation to the mean value of BS (%) as a function of hydration time, was increased from 0.02 to 0.38 BS %/hour due to addition of blast furnace slag and gypsum. In the case of addition of hemi-hydrate, BS (%) and rate of increase in BS were highest.

Converter steel slag(BOF slag) is a vast amount of solid waste generated in the steelmaking process which has very low utilization rate in Korea. Due to the presence of free CaO which can derive bad volume stability in BOF slag, it usually land filled. For recycling BOF and identify its applicability as fine aggregate, this study investigates the fundamental characteristics of mortar with cement replaced ferronickel slag(FNS), which has the potential to be used as a binder. The results suggest that the mineral phases of BOF slag mainly include larnite(CaSiO4), mayenite(Ca12Al14O33) and wuestite(FeO) while olivine crystallines are shown in FNS. The results of flow and setting time reveals that the flowability and process of hardening increased when the amount of FNS and BOF slag incorporated was increased. The length change shows that the amount of change in the length of the mortar was almost constant regardless of mix proportion while compressive strength was reduced. Micro structure test results revealed that FNS or/and BOF slag mix took a long time to react in the cement matrix to form a complete hydration products. To achieve the efficient utilization of B OF slag as construction materials, proper replacement rate is necessary.

In this paper, a solid capsule was prepared using a crystal growth type inorganic material capable of hydration reaction, the quality and mechanical healing properties of self-healing mortar with solid capsules were evaluated. Solid capsules were mixed 5% by mass of cement. Reloading test results of compressive load, it was found to improve about 20% on average for the natural healing effect of Plain, in the case of the elastic range, the healing rate was about 79% at the 7 days of healing age and 98% at the 28 days of healing age. Reload test results of flexural load, in the case of the elastic range, the healing rate was about 79% at the 7 days of healing age and 98% at the 28 days of healing age. Through these results, it is judged that the healing performance of solid capsules has also an effect on mechanical healing properties such as strength in addition to the durability properties obtained by the permeability test. Since the strength tends to decrease as the solid capsules are mixed, it is considered necessary to compensate.

This paper is a basic study to improve durability by imparting hydrophobicity to the surface and sphere of cement-based materials. A cement mortar to which a silane/siloxane-based mixed water repellent was added was prepared, and its initial hydration performance, flow performance, and compressive strength were measured. In addition, after the surface was abraded, the water contact angle and water absorption were measured. The flow of cement mortar to which the water repellent was added was found to decrease up to 1.5% in the addition amount of the water repellent agent, and increased at 3.0% in the addition amount. It was found that the setting time of the cement paste was delayed in both the initial setting and the termination when the water repellent was added. It was found that the compressive strength decreased from 3.0% of the maximum added amount of the water repellent to a maximum of 30%. The contact angle was found to increase when the water repellent was added to the cement mortar, and the contact angle after surface polishing was found to be larger than before surface polishing. The addition of the water repellent showed hydrophobicity not only on the surface but also on the surface and cross section damaged by polishing. The water absorption rate was found to decrease when the water repellent was added to the cement mortar, and the water absorption rate after surface polishing was found to be greater than before surface polishing.

Recently studies on functional concrete with a photocatalytic material such as $TiO_2$ have actively been carried out in order to remove air pollutants. The absorbtion of $TiO_2$ from those studies is applied by it being directly mixed into concrete or by suspension coated on the surface. When it comes to the effectiveness, the former process is less than that of the latter compared with the $TiO_2$ use. As a result, the direct coating of $TiO_2$ on materials' surface is more used for effectiveness. The Surface spread of it needs to have a more than $400^{\circ}C$ heat treat done to stimulate the activation and adhesion of photocatalysis. Heat treat consequently leads hydration products in concrete to be dehydrated and shrunk and is the cause of cracking. The study produces $TiO_2$ used Sol-gel method which enables it to be coated with a low temperature treat, applies it to pearlite using Lightweight Aggregate Concrete fixed with a low temperature treat and evaluates the spread performance of it. In addition to this, the size of pearlite is divided into two types: One is 2.5 mm to 5.0 mm and the other is more than 5.0 mm for the benefit of finding out the removal characteristics of $CH_3CHO$ whether they are affected by pearlite size, mixing method and ratio with $TiO_2$ and elapsed time. The result of this experiment shows that although $TiO_2$ produced by Sol-gel method is treated with 120 temperature, it maintains a high spread rate on the XRF(X ray Florescence) quantitative analysis which ranks $TiO_2$ 38 percent, $SiO_2$ 29 percent and CaO 18 percent. In the size of perlite from 2.5 mm to 5.0 mm, the removal characteristic of $CH_3CHO$ from a low temperature heated Lightweight concrete appears 20 percent higher when $TiO_2$ with Sol-gel method is spreaded on the 7 percent of surface. In other words, the removal rate is 94 percent compared with the 72 percent where $TiO_2$ is mixed in 10 percent surface. In more than 5.0 mm sized perlite, the removal rate of $CH_3CHO$, when $TiO_2$ is mixed with 10 percent, is 69 percent, which is similar with that of the previous case. It suggests that the size of pearlite has little effects on the removal rate of $CH_3CHO$. In terms of Elapsed time, the removal characteristic seems apparent at the early stage, where the average removal rate for the first 10 hours takes up 84 percent compared with that of 20 hours.
The effects of pre-treatments, the hot water extraction of wood meal and the addition of chemical ($CaCl_2$) to wood-cement water system on the properties of wood-cement composite such as modulus of rupture (MOR), modulus of elasticity (MOE), water sorption ratio and swelling ratio of resulting boards were studied in this experiment. The wood meals through 0.83mm(20 mesh) and retained on 0.42mm(35 mesh) screen were prepared from Pinus densiflora S. at Z. and Larix leptolepsis G. For hot water extraction, 500 grams of wood meal for each species were heated to boiling with 1,500ml of distilled water in 2-liter beaker for 6 hours. Every 2 hours, the wood meals were washed with boiling distil1ed water and reheated to boiling again. After 6 hours boiling, the boiled wood particles were collected by pouring this particles on 200 mesh screen. The collected particles then washed twice with hot distilled water and dried for 24 hours in an oven at $109{\pm}20^{\circ}C$. A mixture of 663.4 grams of cement with 331.7 grams of wood meal based on oven-dry weight were dry-mixed in a plastic vessel. The mixture was kneaded with 497.6ml of distilled water in the ratio of 1.5ml of water to a gram of wood meal. To add calcium chloride to the mixture as an accelerator, $CaCl_2$ 4% solution by weight per volume, was added to pine-or larch-cement board in the ratio of 3% to cement weight. To set wood-cement board, this mixture was clamped at 30cm ${\times}$ 30cm, in thickness of 1.5cm for 3 days at room temperature, declamped and then placed at open condition for 17 days. The target density was 1.0. The four specimens sized to 5cm in width and 28cm in length were used for MOR and MOE test for each treatment. After MOR test, the tested specimens were cut to the size of 5cm ${\times}$ 5cm for water sorption and swelling test. The twenty specimens used to measure the water sorption ratio (soaking 24 hours) and ten of these were used for swelling ratio measurement The results obtained were as follows: 1) Larch was not suitable for wood-cement boards because larch-cement board developed no strength, but pine showed 97.9kg/$cm^2$ by hot water extraction. 2) To increase MOR, hot water extraction was more effective than the addition of $CaCl_2$ in pine and larch because the $CaCl_2$ addition was seemed to speed up the ratio of cement hydration without reacting with the wood substances. 3) The water sorption ratio was lowered by the addition of $CaCl_2$ to wood-cement system because the chemical additive accelerated the rate of cement hydration. 4) In pine-cement board, the swelling ratio from 0.37 to 0.42 percent was observed in length and the swelling ratio from 0.88 to 2.0 percent in thickness. As a rule, the swelling ratio of wood-cement board was very low and the swelling ratio in thickness was higher than in length.
Globally, there are environmental problems due to greenhouse gas emissions. $CO_2$ emissions rate of the cement industry is very high, but the continued demand of cement is needed in the future. In this study, in order to reduce the environmental impact of $CO_2$ emissions from cement production. The experiments were carried out for the development of non-sintered cement (have not undergone firing burning) by granulated ground blast furnace slag. In order to compare the characteristics by curing, an experiment was conducted by changing the curing conditions such as atmospheric steam curing, observe the mechanical properties for the measurement of flexural compressive strength by mortar, observe the chemical properties such as acid resistance, $Cl^-$ penetrate resistance and analyzed the mechanism of hydration by XRD, SEM experiments. From the experimental results, as compared with portland cement usually confirm the mechanical and chemical properties excellent, it is expected be possible to apply to the undersea, underwater and underground structures that require superior durability. In addition, based on the excellent compressive strength by steam curing, it is expected to be possible to utilize as a cement replacement material in the secondary product of concrete. In the future, to solve the problem through continued research, it will be expected to reduce the effect of environmental load and to be excellent economics.
