  • A key factor in the study of hybrid vehicle is to enhance the usability of energy. The paper introduces the monitor and controlling technology of hybrid vehicle that can process the relevant information considering the structure of power system and driving strategies simultaneously, and can monitor its results. This technology, so called HEV algorithm analysis, has been applied to PRIUS THS made by Toyota Co. LTD. This model is adapted to parallel hybrid type. It has a somewhat comlex structure, but has several merits. It's energy loss is lower when conversing. and also it is easily applied to the conventional vehicle having a gasoline engine without any overall changing of its structure, and so on. This monitor and controlling technology is very useful to study on the various driving strategies of hybrid vehicle for maximizing the usability between engine and electric motor.

  • Global effort has resulted in tremendous progress with energy harvesters that extract mechanical energy from ambient sources, convert it to electrical energy, and use it for systems such as wrist watches, mobile electronic devices, wireless sensor nodes, health monitoring, and biosensors. However, harvesting a single energy source only still pauses a great challenge in driving sustainable and maintenance-free monitoring and sensing devices. Over the last few years, research on high-performance mechanical energy harvesters at the micro and nanoscale has been directed toward the development of hybrid devices that either aim to harvest mechanical energy in addition to other types of energies simultaneously or to exploit multiple mechanisms to more effectively harvest mechanical energy. Herein, we appraise the rational designs for multiple energy harvesting, specifically state-of-the-art hybrid mechanical energy harvesters that employ multiple piezoelectric and triboelectric mechanisms to efficiently harvest mechanical energy. We identify the critical material parameters and device design criteria that lead to high-performance hybrid mechanical energy harvesters. Finally, we address the future perspectives and remaining challenges in the field.

  • Background: Recently, a hybrid surgical-electrophysiological (EP) approach for confirming ablation lines in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) was suggested. The aim of this approach was to overcome the limitations of current surgery- and catheter-based techniques to yield better outcomes. Methods: Ten consecutive patients with AF underwent total thoracoscopic ablation (TTA) following transvenous catheter EP ablation (residual gap and cavotricuspid isthmus [CTI] ablation). Holter monitoring was performed 6 months postoperatively. Results: Ten patients (90% with persistent AF) underwent successful hybrid procedures, and there was no in-hospital mortality. An EP study was performed in 8 patients and showed that successful antral ablation in all pulmonary veins was achieved in 7 of them. The median follow-up duration was 7.63 months (range, 6.7 to 11.6 months). Nine patients underwent Holter monitoring 6 months postoperatively, and the results indicated an underlying sinus rhythm without AF, atrial flutter, or atrial tachycardia lasting more than 30 seconds in all of the patients. There was no recurrence of AF during follow-up. Conclusion: A hybrid approach that consists of TTA followed by transvenous catheter EP ablation (residual gap and CTI ablation) yielded excellent outcomes in our patient population. A hybrid approach should be considered in patients with a high risk of AF recurrence.

  • Remote monitoring partial discharge sensor, equipping with hybrid filter combining optical and electrical noise reduction capabilities and with signal integrating function to calculate total arc energy, was investigated. Hybrid filter showed insensitivity to fluorescent and incandescent lamps under simulated distribution panel condition. Signal integrating function showed selective detection capability corresponding to different arc energy levels, while convention arc sensor had difficulty to discriminate arc energy level due to bursty arc waveform and peak level detection characteristics. The sensor showed possibility for application to remote monitoring partial discharge sensor, since it detected arc energy level corresponding to normal open and close discharge in low voltage 100A MCCB at 2m distance.

  • A hybrid fiber-optic sensor system which combines fiber Bragg grating sensors and a Michelson interferometer has been constructed and evaluated for condition monitoring of large scale wind turbines. In order to measure multiple stresses applied to wind turbines such as strain, temperature and vibration, the system uses single broadband light source. It addresses both types of sensors, which simplifies the optical setup and enhances the cost-effectiveness of condition monitoring system. An athermal-packaged FBG is used to supply quasi-coherent light, of which coherence length is about 3.28mm, for the Michelson interferometer demodulation. Experimental results demonstrated that the proposed fiber-optic sensor system was capable of measuring strain and temperature with measurement accuracy of 1pm. Also 500~2000Hz vibration signals were successfully analyzed by applying FFT signal processing to interference signals.

  • In this paper, a remote monitoring system of wind-photovoltaic hybrid generation system using mobile phone and internet has been developed. Many kinds of data can be acquired, analyzed and saved automatically by this system. The hybrid system is composed of 1[kW] PV with DC/DC converter, battery banks and 5[kW] wind power system with power inductor and AC/DC converter. In addition, wind monitoring sensors, voltage and current meters, current transformers and potential transformers are used as accessory instruments. All of these signals are fed into DAQ (Data Acquisition) board after converting the data which have been processed by many types of converters, dividing circuits and signal conditioning circuits. These data can not only be displayed on a computer, transmitted using the server program to remote computer and saved on a computer as a file day by day but also be sent as a CDMA message. The monitored-data can be downloaded, analyzed and saved from server program in real-time via mobile phone or internet at a remote place. All of the programs were designed with LabVIEW software.

  • Mobile Healthcare is a new type of health care services for managing health and life irrespective of time and space by uniting IT and BT. For this service bio-signal measurement using WBAN, and data analysis and monitoring technologies based on mobile devices are essential. Generally, however, mobile application has low compatibility because of the features of mobile platform, we have to redevelop it to support the corresponding platform. In this paper we introduce a Mobile Healthcare System which can function as gateway and monitoring based on hybrid app to create ubiquitous healthcare monitoring system compatible with various mobile devices by overcoming the difference of platforms. The proposed system consists of sensor composition part, monitoring composition part, and server composition part.

  • A hybrid optimization method for the identification of state-space models is presented in this study. Hybridization is succeeded by combining the advantages of deterministic and stochastic algorithms in a superior scheme that promises faster convergence rate and reliability in the search for the global optimum. The proposed hybrid algorithm is developed by replacing the original stochastic mutation operator of Evolution Strategies (ES) by the Levenberg-Marquardt (LM) quasi-Newton algorithm. This substitution results in a scheme where the entire population cloud is involved in the search for the global optimum, while single individuals are involved in the local search, undertaken by the LM method. The novel hybrid identification framework is assessed through the Monte Carlo analysis of a simulated system and an experimental case study on a shear frame structure. Comparisons to subspace identification, as well as to conventional, self-adaptive ES provide significant indication of superior performance.
