  • The binding interaction of ethidium to a series of synthetic deoxyoligonucleotides containing a B-Z junction between left-handed Z-DNA and right-handed B-DNA, was studied. The series of deoxyoligonucleotides was designed so as to vary a dinucleotide step immediately adjacent to a B-Z junction region. Ethidium binds to the right-handed DNA forms and hybrid B-Z forms which contain a B-Z junction, in a highly cooperative manner. In a series of deoxyoligonucleotides, the binding affinity of ethidium with DNA forms which were initially hybrid B-Z forms shows over an order of magnitude higher than that with any other DNA forms, which were entirely in B-form DNA The cooperativity of binding isotherms were described by an allosteric binding model and by a neighbor exclusion model. The binding data were statistically compared for two models. The conformation of allosterically converted DNA forms under binding with ethidium is found to be different from that of the initial B-form DNA as examined by CD spectra. The ratio of the binding constant was interestingly correlated to the free energy of base unstacking and the conformational conversion of the dinucleotide. The more the base stacking of the dinucleotide is unstable, or the harder the conversion of B to A conformation, the higher the ratio of the binding constant of ethidium with the allosterically converted DNA forms and with the initial B-Z hybrid forms. DNA sequence around a B-Z junction region affects the binding affinity of ethidium. The results in this study demonstrate that ethidium could preferentially interact with unusual DNA structures.

  • To improve the operation error caused by the thermal fluctuation of electrons, we propose a novel single-electron pass-transistor logic circuit employing a multiple-tunnel junction (MTJ) scheme and modulate a parameters of an MTJ single-electron tunneling device (SETD) such as the number of tunnel junctions, tunnel resistance, and voltage gain. The operation of a 3-MTJ inverter circuit is simulated at 15 K with parameters $C_g=C_T=C_{clk}=1\;aF,\;R_T=5\;M{\Omega},\;V_{clk}=40\;mV$, and $V_{in}=20\;mV$. Using the SETD/MOSFET hybrid circuit, the charge state output of the proposed MTJ-SETD logic is successfully translated to the voltage state logic.

  • This paper describes performance data and design information on a reflection-type analog phase shifter used in Ka-band. Arranging a couple of GaAs hyperabrupt junction varactor diode parallel in a circuit, and applying reactance matching method accordingly, it is possible to 831 a large the phase shift. Design equation is formulated theoretically. Since the assembly process is important in Ka-band, this paper also includes the assembly process that is essential to minimize the generation of parasitic elements during the assembly process. It is obtained variable phase shift 220$^{\circ}$${\pm}$7$^{\circ}$ and insertion loss 5 dB${\pm}$1 dB as a measured result larger than the existing figure in Ka-band.

  • A new trenched Hybrid Schottky INjection Field Effect Transistor (HSINFET) is proposed and verified by 2-D semiconductor device simulation. The feature of the proposed structure is that the hybrid Schottky injector is implemented at the trench sidewall and p-n junction injector at the upper sidewall and bottom of a trench. Two-dimensional simulation has been performed to compare the new HSINFET with the SINFET, conventional HSINFET and lateral insulated gate bipolar transistor(LIGBT). The numerical results shows that the current handling capability of the proposed HSINFET is significantly increased without sacrificing turn-off characteristics. The proposed HSINFET exhibits higher latch-up current density and much faster switching speed than the lateral IGBT. The forward voltage drop of the proposed HSINFET is 0.4 V lower than that of the conventional HSINFET and the turn-off time of the trenched HSINFET is much smaller than that of LIGBT.

  • The objective of this work is to analyze by traction tests, the mechanical behavior of an assembly of type metal / metal by various assembly processes; bonding, riveting and hybrid, on the one hand to show the advantage of a hybrid assembly with respect to the other processes, and on the other hand, to analyze by the finite element method the distribution of the stresses in the various components of the structure and to demonstrate the effectiveness of the use of a hybrid assembly with respect to other processes. The number of rivets has been considered. The results show clearly that the value of the different stresses is reduced in the case of a hybrid junction and that the number of rivets in an assembly can be reduced by using a hybrid joint.

  • A transparent quantum dot (QD)-based light-emitting diode (LED) with silver nanowire (Ag NW) and indium-tin oxide (ITO) hybrid electrode is demonstrated. The device consists of an Ag NW-ITO hybrid cathode (-), zinc oxide, poly (9-vinylcarbazole) (PVK), CdSe/CdZnS QD, tungsten trioxide, and ITO anode (+). The device shows pure green-color emission peaking at 548 nm, with a narrow spectral half width of 43 nm. Devices with hybrid cathodes show better performances, including higher luminance with higher current density, and lower threshold voltage of 5 V, compared with the reference device with a pure Ag NW cathode. It is worth noting that our transparent device with hybrid cathode exhibits a lifetime 9,300 seconds longer than that of a device with Ag NW cathode. This is the reason that the ITO overlayer can protect against oxidization of Ag NW, and the Ag NW underlayer can reduce the junction resistance and spread the current efficiently. The hybrid cathode for our transparent QD LED can applicable to other quantum structure-based optical devices.

  • The purpose of this study was to compare the fracture strengths and the fracture patterns of several hybrid-ceramic crowns and metal-ceramic crown. Ten crowns were constructed for each group according to the manufacturer's instruction. Removable template of silicone rubber impression material was used for standardization of each crowns. Each crown was cemented on a metal die with hybrid glass ionomer cement. All crowns cemented were stored in distilled water, $36^{\circ}C$ for 24 hours prior to loading in an universal testing machine. The load was directed at 130 degrees the long axis of metal die. The fracture strengths were measured and the fracture patterns were observed. The following results were obtained from this study 1. The mean fracture strengths of $Artglass^{(R)}$, $Sculpture^{(R)}$ and $Targis^{(R)}$ were $57.5{\pm}9.5Kgf,\;62.7{\pm}12.2Kgf$ and $60.2{\pm}10.1Kgf$ respectively. There was no significant difference among each hybrid ceramic crown group. 2. The toad required to fracture hybrid-ceramic crowns was significantly smaller than metal-ceramic crowns($131.7{\pm}22.0Kgf$). 3. In the metal-ceramic crowns, labial porcelain detached partially from porcelain-metal junction of proximal side by load. 4. Hybrid-ceramic crowns showed a simple fracture pattern that fracture line began at the loading area and extended through proximal surface, perpendicular to the margin. The crown was separated into two parts of labial side and lingual side. Above results revealed that three kinds of the hybrid-ceramic crowns used in this study must have careful application in clinical use since the strength of hybrid-ceramic crown was lower(about 1/2) than that of metal-ceramic crown.

  • This paper presents to generate 3D building model using estimation of rooftop surface after 3D line segment extraction using hybrid stereo matching techniques in terms of the co-operation of area-based stereo and feature-based stereo. we first performed a junction extraction from 3D line segment data which was obtained by stereo images, and finally generated building's reliable rooftop surface model using LSE(Least Square Error) method after creating surfaces by grouped and fixed junction points. we generated synthetic images for experimentation by photo-realistic simulation on Avenches data set of Ascona aerial images.
