In addition to its modular nature, a Hybrid Modular Multilevel Converter (HMMC) assembled from half-bridge and full-bridge sub-modules, is able to block DC faults with a minimum number of switching devices, which makes it attractive for high power applications. This paper introduces a control strategy based on the Root-Least Square (RLS) algorithm to estimate the capacitor voltages instead of using direct measurements. This action eliminates the need for voltage transducers in the HMMC sub-modules and the associated communication link with the central controller. In addition to capacitor voltage balancing and suppression of circulating currents, a fault tolerant control unit (FTCU) is integrated into the proposed strategy to modify the parameters of the HMMC controller. On advantage of the proposed FTCU is that it does not need extra components. Furthermore, a fault detection unit is adapted by utilizing a hybrid estimation scheme to detect sub-module faults. The behavior of the suggested technique is assessed using PSCAD offline simulations. In addition, it is validated using a real-time digital simulator connected to a real time controller under various normal and fault conditions. The proposed strategy shows robust performance in terms of accuracy and time response since it succeeds in stabilizing the HMMC under faults.
This paper describes design procedure and control strategy of HDC(High side DC/DC Converter) and MCU(Motor Control Unit) for diesel hybrid electric vehicle. In designing HDC and MCU for HEV high power density and reliability is strongly needed to meet the demand of automotive industry. In order to achieve the high performance of a controller, MPC5554 based control board is developed. An optimized film capacitor and inductor are also developed for high efficiency driving. Skim 63 IGBT module of SEMIKRON for automotive is used for power switching device. The most efficient cooling model for optimal size and reliability were verified by simulation. These procedures are verified by bench or driving test and the results are present in this paper.
Recently, the demand for the development of high quality and high speed laser printer and efficient power utilizations are required. Among complicate electro-mechanic devices in laser printer, the toner fusing unit consumes above 90[%] of all electrical energy needed for printing devices. Therefore, the development of more effective energy-saving toner fusing process becomes a significant task of much great demand. Generally, there are several way to implement fusing unit, among them this paper present a new hybrid induction heating method. The proposed induction heating method enables to increase coupling coefficient between heating coil and heat roller also to Increase total energy transfer efficiency. Therefore the proposed IH inverter system provide very fast W.U.T.(Warm UP Time), also high efficiency. Through experimental result, the proposed control system is verified.

This paper describes an on-going national R&D program for the development of a gas turbine/fuel cell hybrid power generation system and related R&D activities. The final goal of this program is to develop a 200kW-c1ass gas turbine/fuel cell hybrid power generation system and achieve high efficiency over $60\%$ (AC/LHV). In the first phase of the development, a sub-scaled 60kW-class hybrid system based on the 50kW-class microturbine and the 5kW SOFC will be developed for the purpose of concept proof of the hybrid system. Core components such as the microturbine and the SOFC system are being developed and parallel preparation for system integration is being carried out. Before the core components are assembled in the final system. operating characteristics of a hybrid system are investigated from a simulated system where a turbocharger (microturbine simulator) and a modified fuel cell burner test facility (fuel cell simulator) are employed. The 60kW demonstration unit will be built up and operated to provide the valuable information for the preparation of the final full scale 200kW hybrid system.

In this paper, enhanced stand-alone operation and development of Matlab/Simulink model of emergency diesel based hybrid energy system is presented. Simulations based on the remote community or islands were performed for PV-diesel-battery hybrid system. Modeling of PV-diesel-battery integrated system is done to perform under the solar radiation and load conditions on Matlab/Simulink platform. The models of diesel generator unit, battery energy storage system, PV and frequency-power control are developed and simulation studies have been carried out under various conditions using Matlab/Simulink and SimPowerSystem. It is demonstrated that the proposed system can provide reliable and good quality power to the customers in diesel synchronous generator-based hybrid energy systems.

This paper addresses the establishment of a kVA-range plug-in hybrid electrical vehicle (PHEV) integration test platform and associated issues. Advancements in battery and power electronic technology, hybrid vehicles are becoming increasingly dependent on the electrical energy provided by the batteries. Minimal or no support by the internal combustion engine may result in the vehicle being occasionally unable to recharge the batteries during highly dynamic driving that occurs in urban areas. The inability to sustain its own energy source creates a situation where the vehicle must connect to the electrical grid in order to recharge its batteries. The effects of a large penetration of electric vehicles connected into the grid are still relatively unknown. This paper presents a novel methodology that will be utilized to study the effects of PHEV charging at the sub-transmission level. The proposed test platform utilizes the power hardware-in-the-loop (PHIL) concept in conjunction with high-fidelity PHEV energy system simulation models. The battery, in particular, is simulated utilizing a real-time digital simulator ($RTDS^{TM}$) which generates appropriate control commands to a power electronics-based voltage amplifier that interfaces via a LC-LC-type filter to a power grid. In addition, the PHEV impact is evaluated via another power electronic converter controlled through $dSPACE^{TM}$, a rapid control systems prototyping software.
This paper proposes the hybrid fuel cell system that can solve disadvantages of existing fuel cell system and ensure high reliability and high stability. The system consists of PEM fuel cell, Ni-MH battery and power management system. In this system, when the power provided from the fuel cell is higher than the load power, the extra energy may be used to charge the Ni-MH battery. When the fuel cell can not provide enough energy to the load, the shortage of energy will be supplied by the Ni-MH battery. Experimental results show that the output voltage is regulated well during load variations. Also, high system efficiency is achieved.
FuelCell/Battery hybrid power systems were studied to develop high efficient zero-emission fuel cell electric vehicles. Fuel cells were used as an auxiliary energy source and batteries were used as a transient power source. The fuel cell system is used to supply the average power demand. Dynamic response of the hybrid systems was simulated using PSPICE program and also tested experimentally. The results can be used to design the interface module and to determine the power requirement between the fuel cell unit and the battery pack.

This study is to demonstrate the superiority and stability of the solar - wind power hybrid power generation system for street lamps using super capacitor EDLC(:Electric Double Layer Capacitor). It is aiming to apply the lighting device using LED light source as the load of solar-wind power hybrid power generation system for independent power source and to develop the street light system device with high output power generation system. Unlike conventional controllers, EDLC, which is used as an auxiliary device for storing the developed power in the battery, can guarantee the high output and long life of the battery.
