Transmission Method and Simulator Development with Channel bonding for a Mass Broadcasting Service in HFC Networks (HFC 망에서 대용량 방송서비스를 위한 채널 결합 기반 전송 방식 및 시뮬레이터 개발)

  • Massive broadcasting contents such as UHD(Ultra High Definition) TV which requires multi-channel capacity for transmission has been introduced in recent years. A transmission scheme with channel bonding has been considered for transmission of massive broadcasting contents. In HFC(Hybrid Fiber Coaxial) networks, DOCSIS 3.0(Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification 3.0) has already applied channel bonding schemes for up/downstream of data service. A method unlike DOCSIS 3.0 is required to introduce a channel bonding scheme in the broadcasting service having unidirectional transmission with a downstream. Since a massive broadcasting content requires several channels for transmission, VBR(Variable Bit Rate) transmission has been emerging for the bandwidth efficiency. In addition, research on channel allocation and resource scheduling is required to guarantee QoS(Quality of Service) for the broadcasting service based on VBR. In this paper, we propose a transmission method for mass broadcasting service in HFC network and show the UHD transmission simulator developed to evaluate the performance. In order to evaluate the performance, we define various scenarios. Using the simulator, we assess the possibility of channel bonding and VBR transmission for UHD broadcasting system to provide mass broadcasting service efficiently. The developed simulator is expected to contribute to the efficient transmission system development of mass broadcasting service.

  • In recent years, as network technology develops, the usage of streaming services by users is increasing. However, the complexity of streaming services is also increasing due to various terminal environments. Even when streaming the same content, it is necessary to re-encode the content according to the type of service. In order to solve the complexity and latency of the streaming service, Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG) has standardized the Common Media Application Format (CMAF). In addition, as content transmission using a communication network becomes possible, the Republic of Korea's Ultra High Definition (UHD) broadcasting standard has been enacted as a hybrid standard using a broadcasting network and a communication network. The hybrid service enables various services such as transmitting additional information of contents or providing user-customized contents through a communication network. The Republic of Korea's UHD transmission standard utilizes MPEG Media Transport (MMT), and Mobile MMT is an extension of MMT to provide mobile network-specific functions. This paper proposes a method of inserting CMAF contents suitable for various streaming services using signaling messages of MMT and Mobile MMT. In addition, this paper proposes a model for content insertion system in heterogeneous network environment using broadcasting and communication networks, and verifies the validity of the proposed technology by checking the result of content insertion.

  • Fast growth of multimedia applications requires new functions for video data processing. such as obj;cted-based video representation and manipulation. which are not supported by 11PEG-l and 11PEG-2. To support these requirements. 11PEG-4 video coding allows users to manipulate every video object easily by decomposing a scene into several video objects and coding each of them independently. However. the large amount of computations and flexible structure of 11PEG-4 video CODEC make it difficult to be implemented by either the general purpose DSP or a dedicated VLSI. In this paper, we propose a hardware architecture using a hybrid of a high performance programmable DSP and an application specific IC to implement a flexible 11PEG-4 video codec requiring the large amount of computations. The application specific IC has the functions of motion estimation and compensation.

  • One of the most important VANET applications is providing active safety by broadcasting emergency messages. In order to prevent broadcast storm of flooding-based broadcasting scheme in which any node receiving message will rebroadcast, the existing protocols use the different methods to limit the number of relay nodes. Nevertheless, the existing protocols have low delivery ratio with high traffic density and cause message overhead. Currently, the dramatic increase in the number of vehicles equipped with Global Positioning System (GPS) and onboard radar created new application scenarios that were not feasible before. Consequently, we proposed a broadcasting protocol that selects relay node by using GPS-based position information and detecting neighboring vehicles with the help of onboard radar to. Simulation results show that our proposed protocol has better performance than the existing schemes.

  • 방송에서의 광고의 비중이 높아짐에 따라 광고 수익을 극대화하기 위한 기술의 발전이 활발히 이루어지고 있다. 최근의 이러한 광고 관련 기술들을 일반적으로 Advanced Advertising 이라고 하며 그 중 시청자의 선호에 맞는 광고만을 시청자에게 제공하는 타깃광고(Targeted Advertising) 방식 등 수신기별로 특화된 광고를 제공하는 기술을 클라이언트 기반 광고 삽입 방식이라고 한다. 북미의 인터랙티브 케이블방송 규격인 OCAP(OpenCable Application Platform)은 OCAP DPI(Digital Program Insertion) 라는 명칭의 클라이언트 기반 광고 삽입 방식에 대한 북미 일부 지역에서의 시험 방송의 성공한 후 관련 규격을 OCAP1.1-I01 에 발표하기에 이르렀다. 조만간 상용화되면 OCAP DPI 를 통해 북미 케이블방송 사업자들의 광고 수익 향상에 기여할 것은 물론이고 시청자들의 만족도를 향상시킬 것이다. 이런 움직임은 케이블 진영뿐만 아니라 Open IPTV Forum, ATSC 등 IPTV 나 지상파 TV 진영에서도 이 기술에 대한 타당성 검증 및 표준화가 논의가 활발히 진행되고 있는 실정이다. 본 논문은 클라이언트 기반 광고 삽입 기술에 대해 OCAP DPI 를 구현한 경험을 바탕으로 그 원리 및 동작을 설명하고, DVR(Digital Video Recorder) 또는 PVR(Personal Video Recorder)의 주요 기능인 스토리지에 방송스트림을 저장하고 재생하는 기능을 이용하는 광고 삽입 방법에 대해 제안하며, Cable-IPTV Hybrid 의 웹 접근성을 이용하여 웹 서버에 저장되어 관리 및 운용되는 광고컨텐츠의 스트리밍을 통한 광고 삽입 방법에 대한 제안하고, 마지막으로 실제 이러한 광고 삽입 기술을 적용하는 데에 있어 발생되는 문제점들을 언급하고 그 해결에 대한 의견을 제시한다.

Saptio-temporal Deinterlacing Based on Edge Direction and Spatio-temporal Brightness Variations (에지 방향성과 시공간 밝기 변화율을 고려한 시공간 De-Interlacing)

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient deinterlacing algorithm which interpolates the missing scan lines by weighted summing of the intra and the inter interpolation pixels according to the spatio-temporal variation. In the spatial interpolation, we adopt a new edge based spatial interpolation method which includes edge directional refinement. The conventional edge dependent interpolation algorithms are very sensitive to noise due to the failure of estimating edge direction. In order to exactly detect edge direction, our method first finds the edge directions around the pixel to be interpolated and then refines edge direction of the pixel using weighted maximun frequent filter. Futhermore, we improve the accuracy of motion detection by reducing the possibility of motion detection error using 3 tab median filter. In the final interpolation step, we adopt weighted sum of intra and inter interpolation pixels according to spatio-temporal variation ratio, thereby improving the quality in slow moving area. Simulation results show the efficacy of the proposed method with significant improvement over the previous methods in terms of the objective PSNR quality as well as the subjective image quality.

Overlay Text Graphic Region Extraction for Video Quality Enhancement Application (비디오 품질 향상 응용을 위한 오버레이 텍스트 그래픽 영역 검출)

  • This paper has presented a few problems when the 2D video superimposed the overlay text was converted to the 3D stereoscopic video. To resolve the problems, it proposes the scenario which the original video is divided into two parts, one is the video only with overlay text graphic region and the other is the video with holes, and then processed respectively. And this paper focuses on research only to detect and extract the overlay text graphic region, which is a first step among the processes in the proposed scenario. To decide whether the overlay text is included or not within a frame, it is used the corner density map based on the Harris corner detector. Following that, the overlay text region is extracted using the hybrid method of color and motion information of the overlay text region. The experiment shows the results of the overlay text region detection and extraction process in a few genre video sequence.

H.264/SVC based Multi-Channel Hybrid HDTV Broadcasting (H.264/SVC 기반의 다채널 하이브리드 HDTV 방송)

  • Korea View 는 지상파 디지털 TV 의 새로운 서비스 프레임워크로 6MHz 의 지상파 방송 대역폭 내에서 하나의 HD 채널만 서비스되던 것을 향상된 비디오 압축 기술을 이용하여 1 개의 HD 채널과 3 개의 SD 채널, 총 4 개의 채널을 서비스하는 지상파 다채널 디지털 TV 서비스를 의미한다. 본 논문에서는 Korea View 서비스 프레임워크에 H.264/SVC 를 이용하여 SD 급으로 전송되던 3 개의 채널에 대해 SVC 의 공간 계위를 갖도록 부호화 한 HD 급 향상계층 비디오 부호화 스트림을 광대역 망을 통해 전송하는 다채널 하이브리드 HDTV 방송서비스 프레임워크를 제안하고 이를 위해 H.264/SVC 의 부호화 성능을 평가하고 분석한다. 이를 위해 본 논문에서는 H.264/SVC 기본계층에 해당하는 3 개의 SD 채널에 대해 1.5Mbps 목표 비트율로 부호화 하는 동시에 H.264/SVC 의 향상계층에 해당하는 HD 비디오의 부호화를 수행하여 SD 급 기본계층과 HD 급 향상계층의 부호화 성능을 평가 및 분석하였다. 실험을 통해 SD 급 기본계층에서 34.5dB 이상의 화질로 서비스 가능한 수준의 객관적 화질임을 확인하였고, HD 급 향상계층에 대해서는 12Mbps 비트율로 부호화 된 MPEG-2 영상의 화질을 제공하기 위해 690kbps 이상의 비트율이 필요하다는 것을 제시한다.

Fast Inverse Transform Considering Multiplications (곱셈 연산을 고려한 고속 역변환 방법)

  • In hybrid block-based video coding, transform coding converts spatial domain residual signals into frequency domain data and concentrates energy in a low frequency band to achieve a high compression efficiency in entropy coding. The state-of-the-art video coding standard, VVC(Versatile Video Coding), uses DCT-2(Discrete Cosine Transform type 2), DST-7(Discrete Sine Transform type 7), and DCT-8(Discrete Cosine Transform type 8) for primary transform. In this paper, considering that DCT-2, DST-7, and DCT-8 are all linear transformations, we propose an inverse transform that reduces the number of multiplications in the inverse transform by using the linearity of the linear transform. The proposed inverse transform method reduced encoding time and decoding time by an average 26%, 15% in AI and 4%, 10% in RA without the increase of bitrate compared to VTM-8.2.

  • Since the existing protocols separated mobility management part and routing protocol part in their design and used a flooding, they suffer from the high control overhead, thereby limiting performance. In this paper, we use a tree-based mobility management method and present a simple and efficient routing protocol that exploits the topology information which is built additionally through mobility management. Thus, the mobility management and the routing protocol closely cooperate to optimize control overhead. Furthermore, we use a progressive path discovery method to alleviate traffic congestion around IG and a unicast-based broadcast method to increase the reliability of message delivery and to judge link validity promptly. The proposed protocol reduces control overhead greatly and works in a stable manner even with the large number of nodes and high mobility. This was proven by comparing with the AODV protocol that employs the hybrid mobility management protocol.
