  • In recent years, the use of hybrid fiber reinforced polymer(FRP)-concrete members with a dual purpose of both formwork and reinforcement, has been considered in some structures and has been applied in a small number of bridge decks. Numerical simulations of the beam failure tests were performed using nonlinear finite element program and a parametric study was performed with variables of perfobond shape. The ultimate strength was increased with perfobond shape because of dowel action. It was showed a good performance in case of approximately perforate diameter 25~35mm in this case.

  • This paper investigates the free vibration of geometrically imperfect functionally graded car-bon nanotube-reinforced composite (FG-CNTRC) beams that are integrated with two sur-face-bonded piezoelectric layers and subjected to a combined action of a uniform temperature rise, a constant actuator voltage and an in-plane force. The material properties of FG-CNTRCs are assumed to be temperature-dependent and vary continuously across the thick-ness. A generic imperfection function is employed to simulate various possible imperfections with different shapes and locations in the beam. The governing equations that account for the influence of initial geometric imperfection are derived based on the first-order shear deformation theory. The postbuckling configurations of FG-CNTRC hybrid beams are determined by the differential quadrature method combined with the modified Newton-Raphson technique, after which the fundamental frequencies of hybrid beams in the postbuckled state are obtained by a standard eigenvalue algorithm. The effects of CNT distribution pattern and volume fraction, geometric imperfection, thermo-electro-mechanical load, as well as boundary condition are examined in detail through parametric studies. The results show that the fundamental frequency of an imperfect beam is higher than that of its perfect counterpart. The influence of geometric imperfection tends to be much more pronounced around the critical buckling temperature.

  • Heterotrimeric GTP binding proteins (G proteins) mediate signal transduction generated by neurotransmitter and hormones. Among G-proteins, Go is classified as a member of the Go/Gi family and the most abundant heterotrimeric G protein in brain. Most of the mechanistic analyses on the activation of Go indicated its action to be mediated by the $G{\beta}{\gamma}$ dimer because downstream effectors for its ${\alpha}$ subunit have not been clearly defined. To determine the downstream effectors of alpha subunits of Go ($Go{\alpha}$), we used yeast two-hybrid system to screen $Go{\alpha}$ interacting partners in cDNA library from the human brain. A brain specific high mobility group box containing protein (BHX), A possible transcription factor, was identified as a $Go{\alpha}$ interacting protein. We confirmed interaction between $Go{\alpha}$ and BHX employing in vitro affinity binding assay. Moreover, active form of $Go{\alpha}$ preferentially interacts with BHX than inactive farm. Our findings indicate that $Go{\alpha}$ could modulate gene expression via interaction with BHX during neuronal or brain development.

  • The Red shirts came to attract attention of the international community during April to May in 2010 by successfully organizing explosive popular demonstrations. The momentum was the military coup on September 9, 2006. The Red color was chosen amid movements against the new constitution instituted under the military junta. In discourse struggles, the Red shirts compared their resistance against the Democratic Party government lead by Abhisit Vejjajiva to that of phrai (commoner or serfs) against ammart (aristocrats or bureaucrats) under the pre-modern reign of sakdina. The Red shirts strongly accused Prem Tinsulanonda, the chief of the Privy Council, of being a mastermind of 2006 military coup, who symbolically represents the cohesion between the palace and the military. It has constituted an unprecedented defiance towards national taboo where the trinity of Nation, Religion, and King has been consecrated. The objective of this article is to review the Red Shirts' ideology, organizations and activities in terms of the modernized phrai's struggles for expanding counter-hegemony. While Antonio Gramsci focused on why socialist revolution had failed to materialize in capitalist Western Europe, I pay attention to why political liberalism has failed to wash away pre-modernity and take root in capitalist Thailand, applying the Gramscian concept of hegemony by contrasting 'hybrid ammart' with 'modernized phrai'.

  • An investigation was conducted on the activities around Europe in order to solve the problem of the thermal bridging of steel studs, which had caused a significant disadvantage. This study included the following: diminishing the contact area between the studs and the sheathing, lengthening the heat transfer route, replacing the steel web with a less conductive material, and placing foam insulation in locations where the thermal shorts are most critical. Although energy efficiency is usually the focus of such foreign cases because their stud application is mostly limited to low-rise residential buildings, both structural and thermal performance are taken into consideration in this study because these target middle-story buildings. A hybrid stud composed of steel and polymer was also developed. This hybrid stud, which is 150 SL in size, is made of a galvanized steel sheet (SGC58) and a glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) withepoxy bonding. A total of 32 specimens were manufactured. Its parameters comprise two types of connection detail,s: the thickness of steel (1.0mm and 1.2mm) and of the GFRP (4mm-4ply and 6mm-6ply), and the ratio of the length to the depth (L/D = 3, 6, 9, 12). Steel stud specimens with the same conditions were compared to the hybrid stud. The test revealed that in the case of the steel specimen with a thickness of 1.0mm, the maximum load of hybrid studs increased an average of 1.62 times comparedto that of the steel stud. In the case of the steel specimen with a thickness of 1.2mm, on the other hand, the average increase was 1.46times. All specimens showed full composite action until the collapse.

  • We investigated the effect of Pb-metal filler added to a hybrid paste(PbO-$Bi_2O_3-B_2O_3$-ZnO glass frit and Pb-powder), for joining flip-chip sat lower temperatures than normal. The glass transition temperature was detected at $250^{\circ}C$ and the softening point occurred at $330^{\circ}C$. As the temperature increased, the specific density decreased due to the volatility of the Pb-metal and boron component in the glass. When the glass was heat-treated at $350^{\circ}C$ for 5 min, XRD results revealed a crystalline $Pb_4Bi_3B_7O_{19}$ phase that had been initiated by the addition of Pb-filler in the hybrid paste. The addition of the Pb-metal filler caused are action between the Pb-metal and glass that accelerated the formation of the liquid phase. The liquid phase that formed, promoted bonding between the flip-chip substrate sat lower temperature.

  • The Vision-and-Language Navigation(VLN) task is a complex intelligence problem that requires both visual and language comprehension skills. In this paper, we propose a new learning model for visual-language navigation agents. The model adopts a hybrid learning that combines imitation learning based on demo data and reinforcement learning based on action reward. Therefore, this model can meet both problems of imitation learning that can be biased to the demo data and reinforcement learning with relatively low data efficiency. In addition, the proposed model uses a novel path-based reward function designed to solve the problem of existing goal-based reward functions. In this paper, we demonstrate the high performance of the proposed model through various experiments using both Matterport3D simulation environment and R2R benchmark dataset.

  • Recently, the application of atmospheric plasma technology in air filtration is increasing. Sterilization by an atmospheric plasma device is very effective. However, ozone gas, which is generated during atmospheric plasma formation, poses a hazard to human health. To reduce the ozone gas during plasma discharge, we fabricated a one-plate hybrid plasma discharge device with a heating element, which can decompose ozone gas effectively by a simple heating action. In this study, we evaluated the plasma discharge characteristics and ozone concentrations with various Ar flow rates and temperatures. With increasing Ar gas flow rate, the ozone concentration and spectrum intensity increased till an Ar gas flow rate of 60 sccm, and decreased thereafter. When discharged in high temperature, the ozone concentration and spectrum intensity decreased. Further, to evaluate the state of the treated surface under various plasma discharge and heating conditions, we measured the variation in the contact angles on the surface. Regardless of the temperature, the contact angle increased with increasing discharge voltage. However, the contact angle increased when discharged at high temperature.

  • As environmental regulations are strengthened, automobile manufacturers continuously research lightweight structures based on carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP). However, it is difficult to see the effect of strength reinforcement when using a single CFRP material. To improve this, a hybrid laminate in which CFRP is mixed with the existing body structural steel was proposed. In this paper, CFRP patch reinforcement is applied to each compression/tensile action surface of a 22MnB5 metal sheet, and it was evaluated through a 3-point bending experiment. Progressive failure was observed in similar deflection on bending deformation to each one-sided reinforced specimen. After progressive failure, the tensile reinforced specimen was confirmed to separate the damaged CFRP patch and 22MnB5 sheet from the center of the flexure. The compression reinforced specimen didn't separate that CFRP patch and 22MnB5, and the strength reinforcement behavior was confirmed. In the compression reinforced specimen, damaged CFRP patches were observed at the center of flexure during bending deformation. As a result of checking the specimen of the compression reinforcement specimen with an optical microscope, It is confirmed that the damaged CFRP patch and the reinforced CFRP patch overlapped, resulting in a concentrated load. Through the experimental results, the 22MnB5 strength reinforcement characteristics according to the reinforcement position of the CFRP patch were confirmed.

  • This research entailed the production of stereoscopic 3D (S3D) contents using 2D-to-S3D conversion for exhibition at a museum and subjective evaluation. Hybrid production combining S3D images of existing live-action videos using the 2D-to-S3D conversion technology and computer graphic ones created via stereo rendering was conducted. Design and control of the chronological analysis of the parallactic angle was conducted on the produced contents, using binocular information as well as subjective evaluations, with the intent of conducting an investigation on the characteristics of such contents from the perspectives of the producers and viewers. An investigation was also conducted on the effects of the viewing position on the impressions of the S3D images.
