Power Quality Analysis of Jeju System Considering HVDC Overhaul and Wind Turbines (HVDC Overhaul 및 풍력발전을 고려한 제주계통 전력품질 분석)

  • Power system of Jeju is interconnected to the mainland using HVDC and that is also interconnected two wind farms. Control of Jeju power system will be difficult if HVDC is disconnected or HVDC is overhauled under large scale wind farms interconnected. We measured and analysed the power quality of two substation and two wind farms to assess that wind farms and HVDC overhaul have an effect on Jeju system or not during the HVDC overhaul. We found that the frequency of Jeju system is very unstable and the voltage distortion excess the limitation. Harmonic currents of wind farms flew into Jeju system in proportion to the power of wind turbine. And the voltage of nearby distribution line was distorted by power of wind turbine when the amount is more that 3,000[kW].

  • This paper presents electromagnetic force effect of the conductor and insulator in the HVDC valve hall. This paper is based on IEC 60865, which is applicable to the mechanical and thermal effects of short-circuit currents. The paper contains procedures for the calculation of the electromagnetic effect on HVDC conductors and flexible conductors, as well as the thermal effect on HVDC conductors. The results are applied to the Godeok -Dangjin HVDC system.

  • Power system of Jeju is interconnected to the mainland using HVDC and that is also interconnected to three wind farms. It will be difficult to control of Jeju power system if HVDC is disconnected or HVDC is overhauled under large scale wind farms interconnected. We measured and analysed the power quality of two substation and two wind farms to assess that wind farms have an effect on Jeju system during the HVDC overhaul last May. We concentrated on the power quality like frequency, voltage variation, voltage harmonics, current harmonics, flicker. We can found that the frequency of Jeju system is very unstable during overhaul, so the frequency of Jeju system can be variated easily by wind farm's rapid output power variation. There are some benefits and weak points in power quality between two wind farms because each wind farm is consist of different wind turbines.

Establishment of EMTP Modeling Method Using Searching Coil Test for HVDC Submarine Cables (써칭코일 시험을 통한 HVDC 해저케이블 EMTP 모델링 기법 정립)

  • This paper describes the EMTP modeling method using searching coil test for HVDC submarine cables. HVDC submarine cables consist of conductor, lead sheath and amore. It is different from general cable which is composed with just conductor and aluminium sheath. Therefore, the transient characteristics are totally different between HVDC submarine cable and general cable. However, the study on HVDC cable modeling and transient are insufficient. In this paper, EMTP modeling is performed according to grounding interval and grounding resistance, then they are compared with real test results by searching coil test.

  • HVDC 케이블은 장거리 전력전송, 국가간 계통연계 비동기 전력계통연계, 전력의 시장화에 따른 전력공급 제어 필요에 따라 세계적으로 널리 사용되고 있다. 국내에서는 현재 유일하게 제주-해남간 HVDC 해저케이블이 운영 중에 있으며, 향후 제주도 안정적인 전력공급을 위하여 2011년에 제주-육지간 HVDC 해저케이블이 추가로 건설될 예정이다. 그래서 HVDC 해저 케이블의 안정적이고 신뢰성 있는 운영을 하기 위한 보수자재용 접속재 개발 및 신뢰성 평가가 필요하게 되었다. 본 논문에서는 제주-해남간 운영중인 HVDC 해저케이블 보수자재용으로 개발된 접속재에 대한 신뢰성 평가 방법으로 가장 많이 사용되고 있는 Electra 175, 189의 기계적 및 전기적 평가에 대하여 기술하고자 한다.

  • This paper presents a method for DC voltage control of HVDC system connection of offshore wind farms. In the event of fault in AC grid, HVDC system need to meet LVRT regulations. When HVDC system meet LVRT regulation, unbalance is caused between power input and power output for DC link. Therefore, LVRT regulation lead to DC voltage increase of HVDC system. To control the DC voltage increase, the chopper resistor can be suggested. In this paper, DC voltage suppression is proposed using chopper resistor and de-loading. The effectiveness of the chopper resistor was verified using PSCAD/EMTDC.

  • The HVDC system consists of ac side and dc side through thyristor valve. ac side protection is similar to conventional ac system protection schemes but dc side protection is different from ac side of HVDC system. AC system don't have controller but HVDC system has controller that controls and protects system from faults and disturbance. This paper show protectional function of HVDC dc side such as asymmetry protection, ac/dc differential protection, dc overvoltage, dc overcurrent protection. Protection models is developed using RTDS software and assessment of protection models is also performed by RTDS system.

  • This paper deals with the operation strategy of the Cheju AC network included MIHVDC system (Multi-Infeed HVDC system). In case that where several HVDC systems are located in the vicinity of each other, there are interactions between the different HVDC systems in such network configurations. The interactions which could be generated in multi-infeed HVDC are voltage stability, power stability and inertia stability, to analyze such systems in a systematic way to ensure that there are no risks of adverse interactions is very important. The developed method until now to analyze MIHVDC interaction is extended from MAP(Maximum Available Power) method for analyzing the power stability of the single-infeed HVDC system, this method is to solve the eigenstructure using the identified factors influencing the interactions. Finally, the algorithms which are introduced in this paper, to determine the operation strategy are applied to Cheju island network which is supplied by two HVDCs.

  • High Voltage Direct Current(HVDC) System용 AC 필터는 특정 고조파 영역에서 낮은 임피던스를 제공하여 AC 계통으로 유입되는 고조파를 억제시킴과 동시에 무효전력의 공급원으로서의 역할도 수행한다. 대부분의 전류형 HVDC System은 12개의 Pulse로 동작하기 때문에 $12n{\pm}1$차의 특성고조파를 발생시키는데 HVDC System에서는 이러한 특성고조파들을 저감시키기 위한 Harmonic AC Filter가 주로 사용된다. 본 논문에서는 HVDC System용 AC 필터를 설계할 때 고조파 저감을 고려한 다목적 최적화 알고리즘을 제시함으로써, 향후 시스템의 안전성과 효율성 측면에서 기여할 수 있는 실제 HVDC System용 AC 필터 설계 적용에 큰 도움이 될 것으로 기대된다.

  • 본 논문에서는 HVDC 제어 시스템의 기능 검증을 위해 구축한 RTDS 기반의 HILS(Hardware-In-the Loop Simulation)시스템 및 시험 결과를 소개하였다. MMC 기반 VSC HVDC는 다수의 직렬 연결된 SM(Sub-Module)을 개별 제어해야 하므로 기존의 LCC HVDC 및 2/3-Level 컨버터 기반의 VSC HVDC와 같은 설비들보다 훨씬 더 복잡한 VBE 구조를 가지고 있다. 또한 짧은 시간 내에 정밀한 제어가 가능해야 하므로 높은 제어 정밀도가 요구된다. (주)효성에서는 제어 시스템의 성능 검증을 위해 RTDS 기반의 HILS(Hardware-In-the Loop Simulation)시스템을 구축하였으며, 이를 이용하여 HVDC 제어 시스템의 성능 시험을 수행하였다. 본 논문에서는 구축된 RTDS 기반의 HILS 시스템 및 시험 결과를 소개하였다.
