  • Relationship between body and space is fundamental in space design. The perception and concept of human body in each age directly affected the space makings of that time. Thoughts on human body are related to various periodical backgrounds such as culture, art, technology and etc. Body-Space relationship has been changed through different epochs and is being changed in the present time too. In contemporary cities, architectural programs has been fragmented and activities of individuals become more articulated. The rigidity of each architectural program has been forced to be more flexible amalgamation of diverse behaviors by dynamic urban time-space formations and patterns. Based on this current situations, new experimental designs that question the existing preconceived relationship between body and space in different views. These design experiments attempt to overcome the solid physical fixation of architectural buildings and to directly relate human body to intelligent devices, technologies, machines as well as spaces. This research focus on the innovative design projects in which body, machine, space are smartly compound as one organization. The purpose of this study is to examine the new Body-Space relationship as well as some relevant case projects in contemporary fashion, furniture, interior design and architecture.

  • Clothing shape is principally described in seven factors that are composed of clothing design, clothing material, clothing size, pattern design, sewing method and body motion etc. The aims of this study was to measurement out-line space-shape variation of clothing fitness with body by using the image processing. The subjects for direct anthropometric measurements were 248 female college students aged from 19 to 22. The data were statistically analyzed by principal analysis and cluster analysis. The results selected one somatotype. for the out-line space-shape variation of clothing fitness with body, there dimensional clothing shapes measured. and cross-sectional clothing shape obtained by the measurement was considered to be space wave form. The out-line space-shape variation of clothing fitness with body was observed between the node number and amplitudes of clothing wave form, and node number was determined at the maxim of space-shape amplitude, and the space-shape amplitudes have related with aspect ratio of cross-sectional shape. • This study is aimed to specify the meaning of the body and the design trends in contemporary architecture. Architecture is based on the human life of various meaning, events, experiences, images, senses and interactions through the body. Thoughts, behaviors, and senses of human are interrelated in architectural experiences. Individuals experience the built environments and space, not through the ideas but through the senses and movements of the body. So, bodies make the real space of architecture. Contemporary architecture accepts the theory of phenomenology and places on the thoughts of Maurice Merleau-Ponty, Heidegger, Nroberg Schulz and so on. Such researches effect on the architectural trends to make design processes works on the programs in views of the expansion and the structuralization of human body. In detail, the aim of this study is to analyse the architecture as the fields of the subject with body as the center, design processes and principles changed form metaphysical thought to phenomenological discourse, and the design trends in contemporary architecture at last. In process of movements, vision centered architecture moves into the bodily experienced architecture and changed the trends from absolute form design to design of relative processes. In conclusion, architectural formation-dissolution-reconstitution of body creates the architectural thoughts such as human proportions, perspective space, ergonomics, modular, organic architecture, experience space, synesthesia, event architecture, fashion-invoked architecture, interactive surfaces, metamorphosis, and others.

  • This study is designed to develop programs that analyze the distance of clothes from human skin and cross-sectional body figures based on 3D human body scan data, and to verify accuracy and efficiency of the program so that it can be used for clothing fit evaluation and 3D human body research. The auto cross-sectional imaging program was developed by using Visual C++ and OpenGL, and the 3D human body scan data were adopted to measure the space between skin and clothing. The space measurements were obtained by two widely used programs, RapidForm and AutoCAD, and a program devised by the researchers of this study. Measuring time and space measurements from different programs were compared in order to verify accuracy and efficiency of the newly-devised program. As a result, no significant difference was found in the measurements. However, the required time to measure one cross section was different within the significance level of 0.05, and the differences become more remarkable as the number of measuring and the angle of space between skin and clothing increase. Therefore, the program developed by this study is expected to be useful for research on body shapes and fit evaluation based on 3D human body scan data in the fashion field.

  • Recently, 'Emotion' has attracted public attention socially and continuously in the fields such as construction, environment, design and products. Also, phenomenological concept of space through the physique in the viewpoint of the human-oriented aspect, namely, body, has been managed as a planned measure suitable for a new era and space. In this study, the author examined and analyzed the verbs and emotional vocabulary about the human body's behavior. The phenomenological space conception through body, i.e, flesh in this human centered point of view is being treated as the suitable planning measure on the new era and space. Though the epochal issue for Emotion is being attempted in many ways in various field such as product and marketing, the approach through the relationship between human and space. Therefore, we would like to see how the Emotion related to the movement that occurs in the space by analyzing the human body movement which is the subject of experiencing the space experimentally and research the characteristic of Emotion and space movement. SPSS 12.0 was used for the analysis to perform the analysis of basic statistics and Factor Analysis, and then to analyze the characteristic and emotional attribute for the experimental analysis. Comparing the activity for the 2 groups' behavior through the analyzed result with the test, active behavior was found to be higher than inactive behavior in the emotional value, and their bodies' motion showed averagely positive value in the emotional aspect; their bodies' motion was presented differently according to the attributes and amount of the people who would experience a specific space. However, the author found that affirmative and active behavior showed emotional aspect more than inactive behavior.

  • The purpose of this study is to calculate the size of unit space of the classroom in elementary school. The curriculum of Elementary school has changed since 1960. It has been reflected the architectural plan of classroom of the nationwide elementary school. However the Ministry of Education repealed the statute about the facilities of the schools on September in 1997 and the new education curriculum-the 7th curriculum-demands various activities in the classroom. So we need to another size of unit space of the classroom in elementary school because the size of unit space will affect the quality of education. This study represent that the size of unit plan is based on the size of human body, education curriculum, the number limit of classroom and teaching tools. It's generally known that a part of human body size has an invariable proportion with human's status. In this study, regression analysis is used to find out a part of the body-size of Korean. Through this analysis, status, age and weight remarkably relate with a part of human body-size. Then the size of unit plan of the classroom is calculated by the part of body-size and the type of desk arrangement.

  • 'Place' as the spacial concept became now key concept in the environments and architecture from the mid 20th century. The purpose of this study is to explain the placeness in Aldo Rossi's architecture according to space sequence. Aldo Rossi has attempted to apply the typological elements for the restoration of place in the cites and buildings which had ruined by modem architecture. Therefore It would be important for us to find out a method which making placeness in Aldo Rossi's architecture. Experiencing place could be examined by the method of space sequence. The experience of place is related to the experience of the human body in architecture space. The experience of place in space can make a unique placeness of architect. And, the experience of the place through the movement of the body and the vista, is the key elements of space sequence to explain the placeness in architecture. The results of this research are following. (1)Key space which related to movement of human body in Aldo Rossi's architecture make a set consisted of a goal space and the surrounding space. (2)The Arrange of Space and the formation of the boundary is more complex in the dispersed buildings than that of the single building. (3)The typological elements like a courtyard, a cylinder and the axis in the buildings made the goal space and helping people to find the orientation of human body.
