Current Status of Repeated Hospitalization in South Korea: Focused on Ambulatory Care Sensitive Conditions (국내 반복입원의 현황과 환자 특성: 외래진료 민감질환을 중심으로)

  • Purpose: Repeated hospitalization could be a proxy of unnecessary or preventive admission in South Korea where barriers to hospitalization are relatively low. This study aimed to estimate the current status of repeated hospitalization due to ambulatory care sensitive conditions (ACSC) in South Korea. Methods: Using the National Health Information Database, repeated hospitalization databases were constructed in units of episodes for patients who had been admitted more than twice between January 2017 and December 2018. The number of hospitalizations, total in-hospital days, and total medical expenditure were calculated and compared by patient characteristics in both of the entire patient group and the ACSC patient group. Results: Of total hospitalization episodes, 26.6% reported repeated admission, and 6.7% of repeated hospitalization was due to ACSC. A total of 183,110 patients with ACSC had been admitted an average of 2.9 times and spent an average of KRW5,630,118. In other words, KRW1,309 billion had been spent for repeated hospitalization due to ACSC. The scale of medical expenditure was relatively large in the highest and lowest socioeconomic status. Conclusion: Repeated hospitalization for ACSC can be considered a simple and intuitive indicator when assessing unnecessary hospitalizations or evaluating healthcare policy.

  • This study aims to vitalize and develop community enterprises through an empirical research on what factors are required to improve the performance and to achieve the sustainable growth of community enterprises. To this end, we surveyed community enterprises located in Busan and verified the fact that social entrepreneurship, organizational justice, organization trust, psychological ownership, network activities, human resource development(education) are required to improve organizations' performance and its sustainability. We intended to find the implications of the study result and draw policy-based support programs to provide supplement points and countermeasures, to set conditions for the vitalization of Community Enterprises, and to create Community Enterprise-friendly environments.

  • The purpose essay, through overall theoretical studies and comparison analysis of a performing art situation, aims to search for the creation and direction of various performing arts and examined the prospect and activation plans for performing arts of the future. The summary of the main contents deducted from this research was as follows. First, branding through unique competitive contents was found only in Northern Gyeonggi-do. Secondly, excellent performing art human resource supply from the locality is an urgent priority. Thirdly, by propelling diversification of performing programs, the performing art consuming activation movement that induces people to participate in the performances was actively developed. Fourthly, the most important thing for the ultimate goal achievement of art policy is excellent human resource development through professional education in each field of art.

  • "Arts and Cultural Education Promotion Act" comes with institutionalization of arts and cultural education in Korea, and tends to mean facilitating occupational professionalism in historical perspectives. In particular, the nature of vocational identity of professional educators in arts and cultural education is the main focus of analysis and debate for human resource development. Accordingly, this study emphasizes the diversity of arts and cultural education practices and reveals that the vocational training of arts and cultural education experts should be based on various curriculum and programs which take an interdisciplinary approach. In this respect, excessive simplification of vocational identity of the experts may exert negative effect on the diversity and excellence of arts and cultural education. To meet the needs of the arts and cultural education, curriculum and training program for university level should be newly developed or revised through an interdisciplinary approach with the job analysis of practicing professionals.

A Study on Multi-cultural Education and Its Normative Orientation (다문화교육의 규범적 방향 모색)

  • Multi-culturalization in our society may be the cause of many problems, but if appropriately dealt with, diversity brought on by multi-culturalization could resolve chronic abuses in education and create a new culture, thereby contributing greatly to national development. The purpose of this study was to examine the current research on multi-cultural education and to provide a normative orientation to multi-cultural education. The literature research was conducted between March 2008 and September 2009. The followings are the findings of this study. First, the results reveal that the appropriate target of a multi-cultural society should not be assimilation, but rather, multi-culturalism. Multi-culturalism has greater adaptability, and the key lies in its respect for human rights, its strengthening of multi-cultural capacity, and its consideration for the minority by moving toward corporate multi-culturalism that aims for equality in results. Second, the first form of multi-cultural education emphasizes neutrality and argues that it is the best way to respect different cultures. This form of multi-cultural education emphasizes neutrality toward "sameness." In this context, sameness means equality of the rights of human beings. The other form of multi-cultural education emphasizes diversity and argues that it is the best way to respect different cultures. It focuses on the recognition of particularity. But it reveals its shortcomings when it excludes interaction not only between an individual and the culture, but also between the insider and outsider of the culture and its social institutions. Thus, multi-cultural education for mutual understanding is suggested. Third, it has been found that pure homogeneous nationalism must be destroyed, but nationalism needs to transform itself rather than be abolished in a globalized and multi-cultural society. Moreover, on behalf of pursuing open nationalism, the self-transformation of nationalism is advisable, in order to for it to overcome its antagonistic and exclusive nature.

  • This study involved a small business workers continuing education according to characteristics and job satisfaction by comparing the development of effective continuing education programs to improve workers' skills is to derive the key indicators. Job satisfaction than those below 40 in the 20s incentives, skills development, human resource management, organizational commitment was higher throughout the 20 to 30 units from 40 to 50 single professionals and young workers compared to their job satisfaction is higher, the number of years worked less than 5 years working in a different number of years than those in group incentives, skills development, human resource management overall significantly higher, rank in the lower position due to differences in job satisfaction was higher than the upper position, technical, administrative two trades was higher than Therefore, by improving job satisfaction in the workplace contributes to strengthening the competitiveness of enterprises and workers must strive to improve the quality of life.

  • Drawing on literatures from communication strategy and human resource management, this study examines how perceived communication satisfaction can affect turnover intention and also figure out mediating effect through affective commitment. We analyzed a data set from one of the largest government organizations in health and medical treatment including 267 employees's sample. Apart from previous studies, this study emphasizes perceived communication satisfaction is a critical factor rather than communication policies. Also, affective communication partially mediates the relationship between perceived communication satisfaction and turnover intention. Our theory and findings provide new insight into human resource management field in growing Korean organizations.

  • This study aims to apprehend resources that affect level of happiness according to the types of work and leisure in single-person households, and suggests measures to effectively manage. Single-person households not only have different demographic characteristics such as gender and age, but also they have different resources, so there is a need to look at them simple as an individual subject, but as a complicated system from more integrated view. Thus, this study saw the single-person household as an organism existing in a complicated environment based on examining the previous researches. This work deigned the research model by applying the human ecological point of view consistently interacting with the environment. This study suggested an hypothesis under the assumption that the resources such as leisure, infrastructure, social activity and work-life balance support system will influence the level of happiness of single-person household

  • This paper analyzed the effects the regional competitiveness index on the characteristics of the regional growth. This study divides the regions in the US based on the static and dynamic standard of income for the characteristics of the regional growth. The results of the analysis are as follows. First some regions such as Alaska, Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, Virginia, Washington and Wyoming have higher levels of SCI and both the rate of growth and per capita income than the national average. These are considered prosperous regions based on their high level of SCI. Second, in regards to the relation between the income level and regional competitiveness index for the regional growth, the variables such as human resource, science technology, business incubation, openness, safety and environmental policy are significant. Third, infrastructure, human resource, science technology and openness are the significant variables concerning the relation between the rate of income growth and regional competitiveness index for the regional growth.

A Theoretical Model of Executive Voluntary Turnover (기업내 임원의 자발적 이직에 관한 이론적 모형)

  • For the current organizations, retaining executive members is one of the most important functions of human resource management. Given that importance, although executives' mobility becomes prevalent, most prior studies tended to focus on involuntary turnover of executive members. To fill this gap, the current theoretical paper suggests a model of executive voluntary turnover, drawing on the lierature of employee mobility and entrepreneurship. First, running a new business as a CEO negatively affects prior-firm performance, but collaboration between two firms mitigate the negative association. Second, spin-off positively affects prior-firm performance, but this is weakened as spin-off firm performance decreases. Finally, moving to a competitor negatively, while moving to a collaborator positively affects prior-firm performance.
