The Influence of Trade and Foreign Direct Investment on Green Total Factor Productivity: Evidence from China and Korea

  • Purpose - This paper intends to conduct theoretical analysis and empirical test on the action mechanism of South Korea-China trade and South Korea's FDI to China on green total factor productivity, so as to provide a new perspective and ideas for the improvement of China's green total factor productivity and promote the high-quality development of China's economy Design/methodology - This paper uses the data of 30 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities in China from 2004 to 2017 as the research sample, adopts the GML index method of SBM Directional Distance Function to measure GTFP, and analyzes the influence of South Korea-China trade and FDI from South Korea on China's GTFP. Findings - Trade is conducive to promoting technological progress, which has a significant promotion effect on China's green total factor productivity. While FDI has a significant inhibitory effect on China's green total factor productivity, which verifies the "pollution haven" hypothesis. In addition, such influence has certain regional overall heterogeneity. Trade has a more significant promoting effect on GTFP in eastern coastal areas, while FDI has a more significant inhibitory effect on GTFP in central and western inland areas. The interaction between trade and FDI is conducive to the improvement of green total factor productivity, indicating that the benign mechanism of trade and FDI has been formed. Urbanization, industrial structure, human resource level and investment in science and technology are all conducive to the improvement of GTFP. Originality/value - Through theoretical analysis and empirical test on the action mechanism of South Korea-China trade and South Korea's FDI on green total factor productivity, this paper provides a solid theoretical foundation for the further development of China-South Korea economic and trade cooperation in the future.

The Chain Hotel Chef's Pygmalion Leadership for Effective Teamwork of Cooks (효과적인 팀워크를 위한 프랜차이즈 호텔 조리장의 피그말리온 리더십)

  • Purpose - In the past, the chain hotel chefs only serve food to their customers. However recently, the hotel chefs play a pivotal role in hotel including considering various customer preferences, safety and nutrition of food, and increasing profits through effective human resource management and inventory control. With the change of the chain hotel chef's' roles, pygmalion leadership, one of new leadership styles, focuses on the effect that leader's positive expectation let subordinates have motivation and more engage in work. This study investigates the effect of chain hotel chef's pygmalion leadership on leader trust and organizational trust. Research design, data, and methodology - This study was to investigate the structural relationships among chain hotel restaurant chefs' pygmalion leadership, hotel restaurant cooks' leader trust, organizational trust, and teamwork, and how leader trust and organizational trust play mediating roles in the relationship between pygmalion leadership and teamwork. In this model, pygmalion leadership includes 4 dimensions: Climate, Feedback, Input, and Output. Data were collected using self-administered questionnaire survey on cooks of Deluxe hotel restaurants located in Seoul and Gyonggi-Do. The samples for data analyses were 243 excepting unusable responses. Result - The findings can be summarized as follows: First, climate and feedback had a positive effect on leader trust, respectively. Second, feedback and output had a statistically positive effect on organizational trust, respectively. Third, leader trust had positive effects on organizational trust and teamwork. Fourth, organizational trust had a significant effect on teamwork. Conclusions - As a chain hotel chef treats his/her staffs sincerely, they will be more engaged in work by establishing trust in their leader. Ultimately, it leads to higher sales profit and customer satisfaction. In addition, a hotel can encourage chefs and other staffs to treat each other as if the student-instructor relations, not just commanding staffs. Then, cooks build up their trust to their leader and organization for its sustained growth and development, and the internal bond in organization including teamwork is strengthened. Therefore, to strengthen teamwork and organizational trust, there should be active communication, knowledge sharing, goal sharing, and cooperation between chefs and cooks.

The Localness and Socio-Economic Foundation of Local Social Enterprises : The Case of Gyeongnam Province in South Korea (지역자원 활용형 사회적기업의 지역연계성과 존립기반 - 경남지역을 사례로 -)

  • Social enterprise is defined as a sort of companies that pursue both publicity and profitability. It is usual that their business activities and viability are dependent upon localized resources in terms of a labor market, raw material procurement and sales market. Also, the characteristics and viability of social enterprises based on local resources within the framework of social economy policy. The social economic policy in Korea is generally treated as means of local developments. This paper aims to examine the localness and socio-economic foundation of social enterprises which are located in the west of Gyeongnam province in Korea and to provide policy recommendations for promoting local resource-based social enterprises. The selection of the case study firms was chosen by considering various factors such as the viability of the firm, location of a company and the types of organization. The research result shows that most of local social enterprises had a viability and profitability to effectively utilize local resources. But it is claimed that the government policy for promoting local social enterprises reveals some limitations to promoting effectively local social enterprises. First, it is necessary to limit the qualification of applying to the government support program. Second, financial support should be changed from hardware-centered programs to software-centered programs such as training and education for human resource development and the business consulting. Finally, it is necessary for the government policy to focus on follow-up programs for firms which are no more capable of receiving the government financial support. For these firms, the government policy needs to focus on facilitating activities of cooperation between local universities and local social enterprise.

The Study of Physical Trauma on Adolescent during exercise: Focused on Judo (청소년의 운동 중 신체적 외상에 대한 연구: 유도를 중심으로)

  • This study intends to investigate physical trauma in the adolescent during exercise of teenage elite judo players in Seoul. The subjects were male 67, female 14, totally 81 in middle and high school student and the data collected june the first to 28th, 2013. A data were analyzed frequency analysis, chi-square test and t-test using SPSS 16.0 program. The questionaire was contained 6 categories, experience, region, types, time, causes, intervention and preventionof sports injury. The highest results of each categories of this study is that experience of injury is 77(95.1%), region is knee 35(70.0%), type is contusion 42(54.5%), time is summer 54(70.1%), cause is body crash 40(51.9%), and intervention is going hospital 46(59.7%). To prevent physical trauma, we should recognize physical trauma durind exercise as a health problem. And to prevent physical trauma, relatives should make prevention prorgram for adolescent sports players. It will improve their quality of life.

The Mediating Effect of Self-Efficicy in the Relationship between Hospital Employee's Job Placement and Individual Performance (병원 재직자들의 직무배치와 개인성과간의 관계에서 자기효능감의 매개효과 검증)

  • To improve management performance, medical institutions have great attentions to selecting the good employee. Through job placement, recruited employee performing a given task, previous studies have lack of research, how job environment affects the individual perception of job ability and individual performance. Therefore, targeting at the health care professional employees who work in the hospital, 134 questionnaire data collected, this study performed an empirical study on the relationship between person-job fit, self-efficacy and individual performance. Specifically, mediating effect of self-efficacy between person-job fit and individual performance was verified. The results indicate that first, person-job fit appeared to affect significantly to the sub-factor of self-efficacy (self-adjustment, confidence, goal-difficulty). Second, among the self-efficacy sub-factor, self-adjustment, confidence appeared to influence to the individual performance. Third, self-adjustment was fully mediated between person-job fit and individual performance and confidence was partially mediated between person-job fit and individual performance. These findings have the theoretical implications that self-efficacy studies are expanded to environmental factors and practical implications and study's limitations are discussed in terms of hospital organization's human resource management.

Development of Peer-Leadership Program focused on Recovery of People with Mental Illness (정신장애인 회복에 초점을 둔 당사자 리더십 프로그램 개발 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to develop and explore the effectiveness of a peer-leadership program on the recovery of people with mental illness. To develop the program, a literature review and an analysis of developed programs were performed.Brown's recovery framework was applied, including an understanding of mental illness, self-leadership, empowerment, and self-directed action plans. A program was developed (6 sessions over 3 days) including peer-led activities, disability awareness and perception, and recovery action plans. The program consisted of education, understanding, planning, and implementation. Its focus was on recovery-oriented activities for empowering people with mental illness. Twenty people with mental illness and using mental rehabilitation centers participated in the program. Four scales (i.e., stigma, empowerment, leadership, and disability awareness) were used for the pre-post analysis. The study results showed statistically significant differences in the participants' levels of stigma (p< .05), empowerment (p < .05), leadership (p< .01), and disability awareness (p< .05) after completing the program. These findings suggest that the peer-leadership program is a recovery program that includes increased understanding of mental illness, empowerment, and leadership capability. Discussions and suggestions were provided for a future study based on the results.

The Competence and Satisfaction on Inventory Management of the Operating Room Nurses (수술실 간호사의 물품관리 업무역량과 업무만족도 연구)

  • The study verified the work capacity (job performance, perception, knowledge) and satisfaction on managing the inventory of operating room nurses working in a more than 700-bed hospital. The purpose of this study was to provide basic data of education for work capacity and satisfaction and quality insurance by analyzing the scores between the three different operating rooms and the correlation between the work capacity and satisfaction by investigating the related factors. This study presented a structured and self-administered questionnaire to 181 nurses who had been working in the operating room more than six months. The mean and standard deviation of the job performance, perception, knowledge, and satisfaction were 4.2(${\pm}0.56$), 3.4(${\pm}0.76$), 3.5(${\pm}0.40$), and 3.4(${\pm}0.55$), respectively. The work capacity and satisfaction of each group did not show a statistically significant difference. The correlations between the job performance and knowledge, knowledge and perception, perception and satisfaction were positive (r=.627, p<0.01), (r=.663, p<0.01) and (r=.485, p<0.01), respectively. Among the factors related to the general characteristics of operating room nurses, only age significantly affected their job performance. This study provides basic data on the maintenance and improvement of their competence and satisfaction by being served as a resource for sustainable human resources management and training, and efficient management of the communication channel between hospitals.

Strategies for e-Learning development in China through the analysis of e-Learning adminstration status in Korean Industry-Academia e-Learning cooperation (한국의 산.학 e-Learning 운영 실태 분석을 통한 중국에서의 e-Learning 발전 전략)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate Chinese e-Learning development strategies based on the analysis of Korean Industry-Academia e-Learning cooperation. Literature review and interview with experts about the subject regarding this study were the main research methods for the study. The results of the study are as follows 1. Chinese government should amend and complement the e-Learning policy of the chinese enterprise continuously through the Korean government's experience about the e-Learning policy such as enterprise e-Learning system, standardization of LMS, and quality assurance. 2. Korean government's policy about e-Learning has emphasized on practical development of e-Learning contents and LMS. And we have found they have good effects from the policy in terms of human resource development. However, Chinese government generally has emphasized on external extension of the scale and administration.nte, Chinese government should follow the practical policy in the e-Learning development as Korean government has done. 3. The way of Individualized learning, cooperative learning, team work, WBI, standardized LMS, and Blended Learning in Korea could be well adapted in Chinese e-Learning.

Moderating Effect of Organization Performance Recognition on the Relationship between Job Value and Organization Value of Hospital Employees (병원종사자들의 직무가치와 직장가치 인식 간의 관계에 조직성과 자각상태의 조절효과)

  • This study aims to provide suggestions for effective human resource management at the organization level, by considering the psychological and behavioral attributes of hospital employees. Employees at 4 general hospitals, 5 hospitals, 7 convalescent hospitals, and 7 psychiatric hospitals were surveyed. A three-step model adjustment return analysis was performed using mean centering methods to the moderating effect of organizational performance recognition, for analyzing the relationship between job value and organization value. Assessing the relationship between job value and organization value revealed that awareness of customer response effort and awareness of hospital image has a moderating effect amongst hospital nurses. Considering the administrative employees of hospitals, awareness of customer response effort had negative moderating effect, whereas awareness of hospital image had positive moderating effect. In nurses of convalescent hospitals, awareness of customer response effort had positive moderating effect, but awareness of growth and competitiveness, and awareness of hospital image, had negative moderating effect. Taken together, our results indicate that depending on the hospital type and occupation, the effect of adjustment of organizational performance recognition when considering the relationship between job value and recognition of organization value by hospital employees, is varied.

Analyzing the relationship between employee characteristics and performance in call center organizations: integration of social network analysis and repertory grid technique (조직 내 사회적 특성과 개인적 특성이 콜센터 업무 성과에 미치는 영향 분석: 사회연결망과 RGT를 중심으로 한 A사 사례 연구)

  • Current performance evaluation of call center employees is dependent on the number of calls they have resolved, regardless of the individual and social characteristics of employees. However, since call center tasks are highly customer-oriented and emotional laborious, individual capability as well as social characteristics of employees is critical to performance. Therefore, this study analyzed the relationship between employees' individual/social characteristics and their performance. To extract individual characteristics, a repertory grid technique was employed, whereas social network analysis was conducted to extract the social characteristics of employees. Using individual and social characteristics as input variables, multiple regression was conducted to analyze the effect of each variable on performance. As a result, in-degree centrality of dining network, initiative characteristics, open characteristics, and enjoyment of studying were determined to be important variables for performance. This study is expected to be used in both performance management and human resource management of call center practices.
