  • This paper is a study of the possibility of experience and expression in the architecture of Louis I. Kahn by focusing on the characters of entrance, court and window/wall of his public buildings. In the course of composition, Kahn defined the entrance, court and window/wall as an connecting elements and elements of boundary. The characters revealed by these elements or rooms give the clue to insight Kahn's thought of relation of interior and exterior space or inner and outer space. Following are the characters of these elements. First, a entrance reveals the fact that inner space separates from outer space by connecting these two space and giving the value to inner space as the entity and totality like outer space. The entrance gives its ontological being to human subjects not by vision but experience and expression which is the essence of commonness, that is, Silence. Kahn made the possibility of activity amplify in this common and silent space. Second, this entrance is connected with wide and huge central space not individual spaces of interior space. This extreme procedure of entering makes human subject feel sublime of intoner space. And the central spaces becomes another exterior or another world in the inner world of architecture by the lights from above and by having the boundary wall which shows same pattern of exterior wall. Third, Kahn regarded a window as the giver of lights not as the medium of vision connecting inner space with outer. He tried to connect interior with exterior through the being and character of the light expressed in the interior. And in his buildings, interior space is connected with exterior by expressing the purpose of building, composition of inner space, structural truth and construction facts through the Form, a pattern of wall, details and ornamental joints. By practicing this thoughts in the real buildings, Kahn tried to gave aura to both the interior space and entity of architecture which is regarded as micro universe like flowers, rocks and human beings.

  • For detecting requirement errors in early system development phase, the behaviors of a system should be described in formal methods and be analyzed with analysis techniques such as reachability analysis and cycle detection. However, since they are usually based on explicit exploration of system state space, state explosion problem may be occurred when a system becomes complex. That is, the memory and execution time for exploration exponentially increase due to a huge state space. In this paper, we analyze the fundamental causes of this problem in concurrent systems and explore the state space without composing concurrent state spaces for reducing the memory requirement for exploration. Also our new technique keeps a visited history minimally for reducing execution time. Finally we represent experimental results which show the efficiency of our technique.

  • The purpose of this research starts analyzing the case with the United States and Japan and considering the plan form of educational facilities in the advanced country for the improvement of educational facilities in our counties. Japan was managing the educational system which carried out homogeneous till the first stage of the 1970s like advanced nations, such as the educational system of the industrialization age before World War II, i.e., Britain and the United States. The form of an American open school was adopted after the second half of the 1960s, trying the educational system which also globalized the educational system of Japan while the world went into the information society. In the process of the introduction, Japan did not simply imitate a huge open space in the United States. Japan selected the content of the education carefully. And, to do an original educational activity by guidance. The current classroom and multipurpose space were planned as one body. As a result, the environment of the classroom was able to do various studying patterns of individual study and the group study.

  • The Contemporary paradigm to understand the complexity and diversity is moving to 'Becoming' that taken place in reviewing at the relation of various concepts. In Japan, After the collapse of modern architecture has been declared 'Metabolism' was appeared. They tried to apply organism's metabolic system to buildings based on ecological thoughts. But Metaboilsm's projects had revealed limitations of representation that the city on the mechanical system became a huge scale. As a result, It caused a break the cultural context of the region in Japan. After then, Japanese Architects expressed a pluralistic aspects of modern society for the restoration of disconnected cultural context. From this perspective, The thought of 'becoming' is a new role for Contemporary Japanese Architect. This research is focused of projects of SANAA, Ito Toyo, Sou Fujimoto, because they have spatial thought about realizing the space through the ways organizing the various potential possibilities in the simple external form not stimulated. They are realize the 'becoming-space' within the architecture. This 'becoming-space' gives people in building the new characteristics and experience that potential interactions among user, architecture and nature. It is non-representational space not fixed, but changing organically and variably.

  • A newly designed Tissue Equivalent Proportional Counter (TEPC) has been developed for the CubeSat mission, SIGMA (Scientific cubesat with Instruments for Global Magnetic field and rAdiation) to investigate space radiation. In order to test the performance of the TEPC, we have performed heavy ion beam experiments with the Heavy Ion Medical Accelerator in Chiba (HIMAC), Japan. In space, human cells can be exposed to complex radiation sources, such as X-ray, Gamma ray, energetic electrons, protons, neutrons and heavy charged particles in a huge range of energies. These generate much a larger range of Linear Energy Transfer (LET) than on the ground and cause unexpected effects on human cells. In order to measure a large range of LET, from 0.3 to $1,000keV/{\mu}m$, we developed a compact TEPC which measures ionized particles produced by collisions between radiation sources and tissue equivalent materials in the detector. By measuring LET spectra, we can easily derive the equivalent dose from the complicated space radiation field. In this HIMAC experiment, we successfully obtained the linearity response for the TEPC with Fe 500 MeV/u and C 290 MeV/u beams and demonstrated the performance of the active radiation detector.

  • Many researcher's efforts have made a significant advancement of space frame structure with various portion, and it becomes the most outsanding one of space structures. However, with the characteristics of thin and long term of spacing, the unstable behavior of space structure is shown by initial imperfection, erection procedure or joint, especially space frame structure represents more. This kind of unstable problem could not be set up clearly and there is a huge difference between theory and experiment. Moreover, the discrete structure such as space frame has more complex solution, this it is not easy to derive the formulation of design about space structure. In this space frame structure, the character of rise-span ratio or load mode is represented by the instability of space frame structure with initial imperfection, and snap-through or bifurcation might be the main phenomenon. Therefore, in this study, space frame structure which has a lot of aesthetic effect and profitable for large space covering single layer is dealt. And because that the unstable behavior due to variation of inner force resistance in the elastic range is very important collapse mechanism, I would like to investigate unstable character as a nonlinear behavior with a geometric nonlinear. In order to study the instability. I derive tangent stiffness matrix using finite element method and with displacement incremental method perform nonlinear analysis of unit space structure, star dome and 3-ring star dome considering rise-span $ratio(\mu}$ and load $ratio(R_L)$ for analyzing unstable phenomenon.

  • Due to the rapid development of telecommunication industry, most telecom operators are investing to upgrade their access networks by using optical cables instead of copper cables. Building new telecom ducts for optical cable installation requires so huge capital expenses that most telecom operators need to remove unused copper cables in order to secure enough space to in-stall optical cables. In this paper, we will present a alternative method to extract copper from removed copper cables.

  • A 42-year old male was seen with symptoms of dysphagia, chest pain and dyspnea of 9 months duration. A benign tumor of the posterior mediastinum was diagnosed from x-ray studies and a transthoracic needle aspiration biopsy which was inconclusive. A left thoracotomy revealed a huge mass occupying the retrocardiac space and the contra-lateral mediastinum. It was resected by blunt dissection and, during this process, a 3.0 cm laceration was created in the esophageal wall. This was repaired with Tevdec sutures and staplers and was reinforced with an intercostal muscle flap to prevent leakage. The postoperative course was entirely uneventful.

  • Optimal allocation of viewers on a terrain in such a wav that the hidden area would be minimized has many practical applications. However, it is impossible in practical sense to evaluate all the possible allocations. In this paper, we propose an optimal allocation of viewers based on genetic algorithm that enables probabilistic search of huge solution space. An experiment for one and three viewers was performed. The algorithm converges to good solutions. Especially, in one viewer case, the algorithm found the best solution.

  • Universities in Korea are exerting every effort to make great strides through restructuring at the moment. Reconstruction accompanied by readjusting the quota and merging of academic departments inevitably require rearrangement of resources and assets of those universities. This paper presents a management method with respect to the spaces held by a university based on the public concept of space through which a system has been implemented as an example. Such attempt makes it possible for the university to adequately cope with changes in its business environment through its effective management with regards to the available spaces on campus. Spaces are all the members' shared public assets. If there is a demand for a space, the university should be able to meet the demand. If the use of a space expires, the university should be able to retrieve and reallocate it. The space classification system presented in this paper may play a huge role in fixating space chargeback system.
