The purpose of this study is to get some data to repair the existing apartment housings to energy saving house : The data are a repair requirement, a repair preference, and so on. For this purpose, an interview was carried out for the dwellers who is living in the estates constructed in about 10 years ago. If there would be a financial support of the government, which is to make a loan 1,400 thousand won and the 3.5% interest, then the 53% of dwellers have agreed to repair their houses. And the best preference repair item was a window, the items what is disturbed to their ordinary life would be not easy to be repaired. This survey has limited to only the apartment housings, so the additional survey will be carried out to get the data to practise the government's Green Home project for existing houses.
This study aims to suggest the direction of urban planning for coping with climate change focusing on urban metabolism. The study consists of two main parts: literature review and case study. The cases are selected for mixed-use housing estate in Europe, which established the plans for energy saving and efficient use of resources and waste. The case study was carried out in accordance with the framework, which had four aspects that are 'to minimize energy input,' 'to use renewable energy sources,' 'to recycle waste,' and 'to reuse natural resources.' As a result, in all the cases, analysis showed that the circular metabolism system was built for energy, waste and water resources and that the plan satisfying all the aspects of the framework was established. Moreover, main planning elements are different reflecting resource conditions for each case. In conclusion, in order to achieve urban metabolism, it will be necessary to analyze various conditions including the surrounding environment of the region and to introduce planning elements that can maximize the regional potential.

The purpose of this study is to arrange the design elements and methods for sustainable community. After made the concept of sustainable community clear in the contemporary architecture and urban design, this study examines rural ecovillage, urban demonstration project, co-housing, new urbanism and urban village, and ecological township as the application modes of sustainable community. Through the cases of the application mode, the design elements for sustainable community were summarized as the followings: the symbiosis system with the nature, permaculture and edible landscape, identity, the technology for saving of resources and energy, the traffic system for the reduction of private motor use, mixed use development, and the housing with diversity. And the design methods for sustainable community were summarized as the followings: strategic planning, visioning, community action planning, workshops and charrette, environmental evaluation, and participation techniques.
The purpose of paper is to suggest directions of sustainable Architecture for dwelling planning. It deals with foreign examples regarding recycling Architecture in the point of using natural resources and enerty effectively and minimizing environmental wastes. The methods which can be applied to Korean dwelling planning are as follows : 1) To use the underground space of apartments as public energy-saving facility 2) To use conservatory passive solar systems at south-facing balconies of apartments 3) To flow daylight into the staircase fo single-family house 4) To construct compactly doors and windows which have high-level insulation with high insulated walls and ventilation systems 5) To recycle materials such as steel. wood and soil 6) To recycle space according to the change of uses 7) To make users participate actively when we plan for dwelling.

Recently, the expansion of housing developments has reduced green areas in cities. The reduction of green areas caused many negative effects on human beings. For functional improvement of ecosystem, government focuses on artificial ground greening because it gives improving microclimate and saving energy consumption. This research aims to develop the system to support decision making of greening for artificial ground greening. This system consist of rooftop greening, wall greening, and street greening system which can suggest proper type of greening and calculate the effect of the greening considering the proponents inputs. It presents social, economic, and ecological value such as cost, energy saving, and temperature reduction. As it is web-based system users can easily access with internet. This system provides automatic selection modes. As a result, with this developed web-based system, decision makers can evaluate the effect of artificial ground green easily and the support to such movement will increase.

As the largest source of food waste is housing, and the food waste properties are good enough to recycle, the proactive approach to conventional food waste disposal is highly regarded. This research is to examine food waste management in the Seoul Metropolitan Area (SMA) and non-SMA and to analyze the public inclination to disseminate zero-food waste system (ZFWS) with fermentation and extinction technology in multifamily housing estates. The self-administered questionnaire survey was conducted and the collected data were statistically analyzed. The main findings are summarized as follows: food waste in multifamily housing estates were retrieved by refuse truck and largely recycled for compost and forage. Also, many local governments were in favor of ZFWS, and unwilling to invest in it due to financial constraint. It's found that logistics of ZFWS is likely to be influenced by important features such as a considerable amount of cost saving, effective energy recovery, and efficient operation/management.
The purpose of this study was to determine the incomplete aspects of the government pilot project 'Livable City Making' Also, the study was conducted to consider a plan that residents will satisfy for the realization of the project. The study used a case study and a survey method in research process. For the case study, two projects in Busan that have similar planning were chosen. The contents of the survey included the residents' interest in their housing area, their recognition and opinions of the pilot project, their satisfaction about the environmental alterations, and their thought about conditions of sustainable housing. The main results of this study were as follows. First, the residents were satisfied with the alteration of the street space and the provision of green and open spaces. Meanwhile they revealed that the preservation of the natural environment and the vitalization of community are insufficient. Second, they also believed that the construction of the pedestrian streets, the provision of parking lots, and the remodeling of the deteriorated buildings are incomplete. Third, the residents believed that the following provisions need to be made for successful sustainable housing waste discharge needs to be minimized, facilities need to be used for saving energy, opportunities for employment need to be provided within their housing areas, and safe street spaces and comfortable traffic systems need to be provided.

The purpose of this study is performance validation of district heating apartments about heating energy consumption and analysis of energy consumption by unit characteristics. The heating energy consumption of the existing apartments was analyzed and the analyzed results will be used for energy saving technology development and policy making. The heating energy consumption data about total 78 apartment complexes, 56,910 units in Gangnam-Gu, Seoul, Korea were investigated from October, 2010 to April 2011. The analysis results are as follows; The mean heating energy consumption is 98[kWh/m2]. The energy consumption of Apgujung-Dong, Daechi-Dong is higher than that of mean valuse. The energy consumption deviation by deterioration, unit area, core type and regional group is very high. Specially, building deterioration casts a long shadow.

Energy consumption unit in a building is classified according to uses of electricity, gas, and oil, and it has been studied steadily as a material for establishing policy standards for energy saving in buildings. Meanwhile, consumption unit in apartment house can be calculated differently according to its survey method and area standard. Therefore, with the necessity of reestablishing energy consumption unit, this study has researched thermal energy consumption, Supply dwelling area Exclusive dwelling area, completion year and housing type of 23,791 households of 31 complex in Daejeon. As a result, (1) there was about 20% difference between supply and exclusive dwelling areas. (2) On the basis of exclusive dwelling area, thermal energy consumption unit was calculated as $104.9kWh/m^2{\cdot}a$ in 2010, $104.6kWh/m^2{\cdot}a$ in 2011, and $107.7kWh/m^2{\cdot}a$ in 2012.
