  • In Korea, the construction company has provided houses through apartment sales system. Residents have obtained a variety of information about their future house by visiting a sample house called "the model house" before they purchase home. Advanced technology such as web-based VOD or Virtual Model in recent years has gradually replaced those built environment. In 2009, the Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs announced the restraint to the construction of sample houses. Instead, they highly recommended a Virtual Model House as an alternative solution. This study aimed to propose how to design the user-oriented virtual model house through the experiment and survey research. The 3D virtual model house of 85m$^2$ apartment was built and presented by two types (Type A: Bird's Eye View, Type B: Walk through View) on the web page. The subjects evaluated presence, spatial perception and cognition, and usability of each type after exploring them. The results are as follows. (1) The subjects' evaluation of presence showed Type B has more negative effects than Type A such as feeling dizzy or tired even if their values were not so high. (2) The subjects perceived and cognized both types of virtual model house more realistic for the expression of volume of space, the size of opening, and the arrangement of furniture than that of wall finishes and materials. (3) The usability of Type A was significantly higher than that of Type B.

  • This study reviewed selected specific windows and reviewed the window performance certification criteria including KS F 2278 and KS L 9107 and analyzed the change in performance based on the change of area. This study also compared the heating and cooling loads of an apartment house applied with window performance reviewed in consideration of insulation and SHGC performance and actual size based on KS F 2278. The analyzed window was a double window composed of aluminum and PVC and the building was the apartment house model of 141 ㎡. The analysis results were as follows. First, as the window glass's thermal performance is superior to frame, the performance degraded in reduced area. In case of selected window, the 1 m × 1m window's thermal performance and SHGC decreased by 35% and 37% respectively compared to 2 m × 2 m window. Secondly, in the comparison of performance for increasing area with 2 m × 2 m and 3 m × 3 m windows, the 3 m × 3 m window's thermal performance and SHCG increased about 14%. Third, in the comparison of heating and cooling loads of the analyzed model considering the apartment house model applied with window performance derived from KS F 2278 and actual figures, the model's total heating and cooling loads increased by 33% with cooling decreasing by 36% and heating increasing by 77%. Above analysis results show that evaluation of window performance based on criteria such as KS F 2278 and KS L 9107 may lead to distortion of performances different from actual products. Thus, it is necessary to suggest new evaluation criteria.

  • To develop floor impact sound resilient materials of apartment house effectively, floor impact sound insulation performance test lab. was designed and constructed in T company. Introducing specification and basic performance of this lab. could be helpful in plan and design of another lab. Floor space size of this lab. is $4.2m{\times}5.5m$ and this size is similar with that of living room of usual apartment house's (about $100m^2$) and the height of lab. is 2.4m. Slab thickness is designed by 180mm. Frequency characteristics is similar to general apartment house. Reverberation time of sound receiving room displays 1.26sec in 125Hz by establishing sound-absorbing materials. For light weight impact sound insulation performance of concrete bare floor structure is estimated by $L_{i,AW}\;=\;73$ and for heavy weight is estimated by $L_{i,Fmax,AW}\;=\;50$. Sound pressure level distribution of sound receiving room is ranged very uniformly. With these results, floor impact sound resilient materials could be evaluated and the results could be trusted by comparison tests.

  • The main purpose of this study is to provide the back-from-city farmers with the information about the melon cultivation technology by surveying 268 farm houses in the major melon producing districts such as Seongju and Chilgok. For the purpose, this study classifies the essential technologies that the melon experts think as most important into 6 categories: size of plastic film house, covering film, varieties of oriental melon, lagging cover, ventilation method and ways to reduce repeated-cultivation damage. The result of the study shows that the back-from-city farmers should consider the following items when they choose to cultivate oriental melons. For the size of plastic film house, the ventilation method and the covering film of plastic film house, it is better to choose the latest technology. Even though it may require larger initial investment, the latest technology can increase the production and lower the cost. In case of variety, it is better to choose popular or the most widely grown ones rather than the new ones. The lagging cover should be selected in consideration of climate conditions such as average temperature and humidity, transplant time and harvest time of the farming region.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the historical and environmental background of the straight-line-shaped plan emerged in northeast region of China during the Qing dynasty. This raper is mainly based on the writings in Yeon-haeng-rok. The results are summarized as follows: First the necessity of a lot of sunshine due to the cold climate in that region made the people select the plan that rooms to be added side by side. Second, it was not necessary to build the house with non-straight-line-shaped plan due to the reason that the northeast region of China is so vast and the size of the house lot was not limited. Third, the condition of family income somewhat affect the shape of plan to be straight-line-shaped, which is much economical to construct a house than other shape of plan. Fourth, the way of living of the people in that region during the Qing dynasty made the house plan straight-line-shaped which is convenient to sit either on the floor or on the chair within a room. Fifth, straight-line-shaped plan became an adequate means to represent the hierarchy of the use of inner space of a house and eventually became an architectural norm of this region.
